We always stay downtown, but the Embassy is on Tyron, which is the location of the speed street festival (which is on Tryon but downtown) (maybe about five miles away) likely worth checking out.

Have you ever been?

just curious - we will be checking in next Friday afternoon for a few days. Wondering if anyone knows the area and what attractions there are post race.

Sleep over? Bit too naughty I feel. :D

Hi
Yes - someone sent that suggestion to me - may do a couple - already did DEI and Hendrick in previous visit two years ago.

I was kinda meaning what's going on that isn't on normally in the area.

DEI is hardly a tour. You should drive over to Welcome and go to the RCR museum, thats well worth a visit

The best shops to visit are Penske Racing, and Joe Gibbs Racing. I am not a fan of either of those teams, but they offer the best viewing, and are impressive in size

Thanks for the tips - may find time for those.

Anyone got any tips on what's happening elsewhere?

:D

Also check the teams shops, as they all have fan appreciation parties. I know that Evernham's in on Friday.

Check out the speed street festival on Tryon see: http://www.600festival.com

There is an amusement park on the North/South Carolina border, just south of Charlotte, called the Carowinds.

haha yeah. i am from Canada, and we don't have freeways like that here. Man I-85 is like four or five lanes each way. and hwy 29 near the track is the same. bumper to bumper 24 hours a day, and everyone is going 80+ miles per hour. The first time it scarend the **** out of me. Now i think that it's great.

Well, we're here - great hotel. Some really nice people too. Love it and would heartily recommend to anyone.

And yes, know about the Carrowinds park - going there one day after the 600.

It's a chain. They're everywhere in the South. We ate at one in NC on our way to SC two weeks ago. Fine cuisine it's not.

Yeah...you can't miss 'em. Just about at every exit of the interstate system in the southeast.

I live in the US' version of Canada...the upper Midwest, or as we like to say...up north der, but I've been to quite a few of the tracks in that area.

colinspooky

hmm - yes I know it's a chain. And yes I have eaten in one, in Florida a few years back.

I just assumed you had found a top class one around Charlotte.
