....one week before the Start of the Rallye and we have NO Entry List....
.... in my Opinion the 2019 Edition of ERC should be a good one, with Lucas, Herczig, Griebel....and very very much good youngsters in ERC3.....but it seems nobody is interested in it, especially for Acores Rallye

Looking on the event site and although there are stage maps, they don’t show the designated spectator access points. Is this normal for the Azores Rally? I’m mainly looking for access to the spectator point half way through Sete Cidades, at the top of the volcano.

I dont remember any spectators points on Azores. But I was there as spectator many, many years ago. Ok, last year I was lucky to be also on Sete Cidades as spectator, but it was coincidence and I know where exactly to go :)

It may be 'settled' but it wasnt in Ingram's favour.

If he doesnt get a big new sponsor sadly Azores could be a one-off. It'll be interesting to see what is on his car here. I hope he does well and gives any prospective sponsors some encouragement.

Azores I’m Coming Back!

Despite a huge unexpected setback recently I am so so grateful to be headed to the airport ready to fly out to the first round of the 2019 European Rally Championship, and my favourite rally - Rallye Azores ! :)

One of my life ambitions and what I've worked towards for several years is to become the first British driver to win the overall FIA European Rally Championship in 50 years, and this is my best chance yet.

I have won my class 3 times on the Azores and we are number 3 fighting the best in the @fiaerc. I would like to sincerely thank Toksport, Michelin Sport, CarFinance247, Andrews, Skoda UK, my support team for believing in me for Round 1. Can’t wait to be back in that beautiful place with the Azores fans.

As you can see on livery of the car, he has lost his main sponsor from last year. I think that is the reason...

Good to hear Ingram has some support from Skoda UK.. although I guess it’s not a lot as there is no Skoda branding in the livery.

Also seems like a good idea for the ERC Junior prize to enable the winner to compete in the last two rounds of the season and give them a possible chance at the overall title.

VW didn't decide to go the Skoda route with their front suspension then..

No, they opted for the proven winning layout from the Polo WRC (inherited from Fabia S2000). I think that on the other hand they may have longer travel than Fabia R5 but I have no values in hand. I just think so.

How come Magalhães is so slow... is it the i20 ?

Magalhães entered this rally with the need to get a good result for the Portuguese series (CPR); foreign crews don’t take him points and Moura made it clear that Fafe and Açores would be his sole events this year. Rego isn’t registered in the CPR and with Teodósio having car issues, Magalhães is mainly cruising to get national series P2...

He hasn't really impressed much the last couple of years, even in Fabia.

I believe that’s a bit unfair. It’s true that last year, despite a few good results and a final P3, he was a bit off the pace, but in 2017 he actually impressed in most of the events, being clearly one of the top 3 drivers of the season. He’s still fast and talented; hopefully he’ll be able to return to the ERC and prove it!

maybe its due to fog? knowing stages by heart?

Moura knows the stages better than anyone and he’s also suffering. More than the fog, the heavy rain is the biggest issue as the road muddy surface gets more and more slippery after each car pass. Teodósio is taking advantage from opening the road and he feels confident in these conditions and it seems that Magalhães is also pushing to try keeping P2 national score. For the guys starting behind it’s a nightmare and some are already in surviving mode, but there's still 2nd loop to be run...

Btw, gutted for Antunes; after his mistake in Tronqueira he fall from P2 to P4 in ERC3.

“Incredible, absolutely incredible,” said Lukyanuk at stage end. “The grip is changing so much, you can’t believe it. I have never, ever, ever seen conditions like these. [It was] probably the worst stage in my life.”

Despite being one of the most experienced drivers of all time on this event, even third-placed Moura was struggling to cope with the challenging stage conditions:
“I have never run stages like this before,” he said. “We have fog which is coming and going. I want to survive, and nothing more. I need to get to the finish line. Nothing else matters.”

Ingram: "Oh my God, Jesus Christ, Chris ! Absolutely savage !"

Nope. Still looking on the crashed C3 photo and thinking what the heck! Like so many times before (even in Açores a couple of years ago), it hurts seeing how Luky is so much faster than all the rest but somehow doesn’t end winning. Anyway, heads held high; Luky, Arnautov and Saintéloc are the clear favourites for Canarias…and the rest of the championship!
(and deserves some extra help from Citroen, as they’ve managed to show the car speed on gravel without moaning!).

On the rest, congrats to Habaj and Moura; they were quite close all rally long, always fast and faultless, with Habaj managing to jump ahead thanks to a fantastic pace during this morning ‘storm’. Well done. Let’s hope Ingram, Griebel and the others can also be on their best in the next events. Btw, fantastic show from Antunes in ERC3; a bit like Luky overall, he’ll come back even stronger!

No front brakes + only rear brakes (or maybe an attempt to slow down by handbrake) + wet asphalt on gravel tyres = near sure high speed spin and that's what I see on the onboard.

It was an awful rally for Mattias Adielsson. First an electrical issue on Thursday and then, on the final stage of the rally, he hit something with the rear of his car and squashed his exhaust to the point his car was not able to drive. Look at how he used the wheel-jack to try and open the exhaust pipe up, but eventually resorted to punching a hole through the exhaust with a screwdriver:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnan-bZB404

Somehow he eventually managed to finish the rally in the 21st position.

Lukyanuk explains his crash:
https://www.fiaerc.com/lukyanuk-explains-dramatic-erc-crash/

"One brake line was damaged after the puncture on the previous stage."

You would think he would've tested the brakes on the road section if he know one line was already damaged.

And he was 22s behind Moura so there was no realistic chance to gain a position by driving flat-out on the final stage.

tommeke_B
24th March 2019, 12:05
Well, on the first run of that stage he was 19s quicker than Moura, and at that point Lukyanuk was cruising... So gaining a position by driving flat out was very realistic. ;) Also Lukyanuk said it must've broken on the first corner of the stage. Anyway, no matter how it happened, I hope this doesn't bring any financial issues for him for the rest of the season.

"You would think he would've tested the brakes on the road section if he know one line was already damaged.

Of course he tested the brakes (like everybody does) and of course he didn't know it's damaged (otherwise he would not crash). The damaged pipe broke by the pressure from the heavy braking into the first corner of the stage, not before.

Mirek
24th March 2019, 14:00
But Moura was fastest on the previous stage (SS14) and went 3rd fastest on SS15, so I dont see Luky taking 23s...

But but... Alex stalled the engine on SS13 and had a puncture on SS14 so it's meaningless to compare their times on these two stages. Alex was fastest on all other stages so it's perfectly possible that he could have gained a place.

Anyway it has nothing to do with the accident because that would have happened regardless.
