View Full Version : Your Top 3 Races
I don't know if this has been done (probably has...oh well), but what are your 3 favorite F1 races that you've ever seen?

I haven't seen that many live but of those I did, it must be Brands Hatch 1976, when Hunt didn't win followed by Silverstone 1981 when Watson did.
Those I've seen on TV-
Dijon 1979 - Villeneuve and Arnoux
Monza 1967 - possibly Jim Clark's greatest race
equal 3rd Fuji 1976 and Adeleide 1986 -both for the sheer drama
And I won't upset Studiose by going any further back into history

Best I've actually seen was Prost winning the 1986 WC after Mansell's tyre blew at Adelaide - I was sitting at the end of the straight watching Mansell's car coming straight at me!!
Best I have ever read/heard of Jimmy Clark Monza 1967.
Most emotionally remembered actually watching Senna and Prost together on the podium at Adelaide in 1993. At the time no one would have thought it could possibly have been Senna's last win.

Japan 2000. France 2002. Spa 1992. Those are my fav races, not neccesarily the best ones purely on the racing side
What's the story on 1967 Monza???
/Sorta newbie.

Clark had some sort of car problem and went a lap down, he fought back and got into the lead only to ran out of fuel on the final lap, Surtees and Brabham crossed the line almost side by side for the win
I've read a lot about F1 history but I started watching F1 in 91 so the best races I've seen are from then onwards.
Monaco 1996
Donington 1993
France 1999 or Nurburgring 1999

Wow, I would have loved to see that too. I just start watching F1 in 2003, need to catch up on history & jargon.
2005? San Marino is one of my faves.

Well pretty difficult to decide best 3 races...for whatever reasons it may be
Britain 2003 - Rubens stormed from behind to overtake everybody to win that one in a Ferrari...superb stuff
Japan 05 (?) - Kimi overtaking Fisi on the last lap of a thriller
Spa 2000 - Mika and his epic battle against MS and THE PASS.
Monaco 96 - a downpour and only 6 cars finished I think...Panis won :)
Spain 96 - Schumacher did really well in a wet race

The best race I've seen in my lifetime was Spa 1995 - Schumi was on slicks and held off Damon Hill who was on wets at a wet Spa. Schumi's integrity was never in question that day, there was no 'dirty driving'. He positioned his car and defended in all the right places.
Suzuka 2005 and Silverstone 2003. Simply the most entertaining races ever with stunning overtaking manourvres. RUbens copying Mansell when he passed DC into Stowe, overtaking Kimi at Bridge, Alonso overtaking Schumi into 130R on the outside!

Yep... yep, mine too.
However my all time favs are tied, ironically after G. Villeneuve passed on to greater circuits in the heavens:
1) 1982 Monaco GP - a wild/bizzare finish to a GP I've ever seen that I felt like I was watching a racing/slapstick version of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World."
2) 1982 Indianapolis 500 - I know it's not GP material, but just from enjoying this on TV alone, I had never heard a crowd at the track overwhelm the race announcers volume at that time. Nor have I heard anything like it since then.
If there was one race I could have attended without regards to finances, schedule and other impossible measures, with regards to such catagories as the 66' Italian GP (Ludovico Scarfiotti - imagine the party that night) , 67' Belgian GP, 79' French GP, this is the one race I would have liked to have attended.

Seen on TV:-
1) 1990 Mexican GP - this was the race where Prost and Ferrari finally overhauled McLaren Honda's superiority. And of course Mansell pulled that move on Berger into Peraltada!
2) 1993 European GP, Donington - a wet-weather masterclass from Senna
3) 1982 Monaco GP - this one had just about everything.
