It seems almost the same as last year with the exception of first two stages of friday. A pity they leave Terranova and Olia once again. Anyway new stages are great as well.
I love the power stage. It is very good and unique for big cars but can be a nightmare for other cars at the end of the list. And that's not fair, so I'll not be surprised if they will change it. Location is fantastic though.

Tula was there last year (and the year before). ;) Ardara was there in 2016 (and reversed in 2015). It would be better to see the stages around Monte Grighini come back, I don't really like those friday stages.

So no Olbia overnight service than.
I actualy do like those stages, except for Ardara.
On Tergu-Osilo we went to the finish last year, think that was the longest part of a stage i have ever seen, great overview.
Tula at the windfarm also nice, and Castelsardo at 2km from start in 2016 was also nice, good view and narrow bumpy road.
So that leave's Ardara, seen it once near the finish (2015), that wasnt that great.
Dont know which year it was, but soem years ago they had remote service i think in Budduso. I really liked that.

Special stages around Oristano are awesome.. Sinis stage in sea river like 2015 could be fantastic but i don't think return soon..

It was just a remote service anyway, just a tyre change essentially. A very long liaison to do on Thursday and Friday.

Also in 2015 and 2016 Olbia stages were not in the itinerary. In 2015 on friday they went south Alghero in the Oristano province. In 2016 itinerary was very similar to this one. Olbia's stages came back last year on friday with a parc fermé in Olbia on thursday.
Alghero is the base since 2014. The rally is now at his 15th edition. It's starting to get mature. :)

I am a bit new here but maybe somebody can give me some tips. Never been to a WRC event but really thinking about going to Sardegna with my girlfriend, since we are living close in Malta.
Been a huge WRC and rally fan from my sofa but honestly have no idea about the experience of watching a rally live. So maybe someone can give a few pointers for instance what/where should we look for information, how do you find the best places to watch the stages and so on to a total noob in that sence.
Also how is Rally Sardegna from the viewpoint of a spectator compared to other events.
Any info is much appreciated.

I must say that I like Sardegna a lot, I think it is WRC event where I was the most times (once it was IRC). So I can highly recommend it - nice gravel stages, usually nice weather, I dont remember any problems with marshalls. Regarding the recommendations - if you have ever watched any rally as spectator, you can use same preparation like for other events - mainly you can look at the maps and compare it with the last year, then watch onboards and find the best suitable place (and if there is lot of spectators on the video it meens it will be good accessible spot). Then you can watch also official programme of the rally, where should be also some tips for spectators, who are not able/have no time to do better preparation before the rally. Or you can ask fans here to recommend some specific places to watch (you should write what type of places you prefer).

Been in Sardinia 4 times. My best advice is not to look for information other than maps and access to the stages. Don't go on organizer suggested spots (they are overly crowded and "overly safe") or known spots like the jump in Monte Lerno.
If you want to feel the real rally Sardinia experience find the spot you want looking at the maps and go there by yourself. There is nothing better than listening to the echo of a WRC car coming from far away and be surrounded by nature and a couple of sardinian guys drinking wine and beer.
On saturday if you go to Monti di Alà or Monte Lerno stages you can easily not make any itinerary, just go to the access more comfortable for you and if you are willing to walk you will most likely find 3 or 4 good spots every km.
Kopecky doing Sardinia. My guess would be with Nordgren since he hasn’t had a go yet.

Hello, question about golden pass. As i understand it is not needed to watch rally. But it does come with dedicated parking. Is this as good thing to have as in Poland VIP parking was? Will one ticket per car be enough or will they check that all passengers in car have a pass?

Hi! Newbie here!
I'm travelling to Sardegna for my first WRC event, can't wait. I was wondering if there is a thread from previous years for suggestions for best viewing spots for spectators, transport suggestions etc. Im staying in Alghero. Do I need to hire a car? Or do the event organisers provide transport out to the stages? Alternatively, what are the chances of ride-sharing? Is getting a gold pass worth it?
Thanks for your help.

Hire a car
Gold pass for spectators...
I've not been as a spectator but I cannot recall if they checked for tickets or not.
See if anyone in the forum is going - reach out on twitter too, find some #WRC people who are fans.
Find previous thread in this forum a few pages back but someone will advise here the best spots! Check website for guides.

I asked around as I'm going this year and you don't need to buy a pass to access the stages. That pass gets you an 'exclusive' area to stand and I think maybe some parking. But you can access for free. I think the only ticket you need to buy is the SSS one. I don't know but I assume you can buy that maybe in the service park or on the gate?

Monte Carlo is irrelevant in relation to Sardegna. AFAIK granting the exception is in the scope of the national ministry of transportation and not FIA.

I'm way later than usual with plans for this rally.
On the Monte Lerno map on the website (Mickey's jump area) it says 'car access allowed until road closing time'. Can't see this on other stages. Is it implying you need to be in the carpark before the special stage route itself closes (7:11am)??
http://rallyitaliasardegna.com/en/guide-to-ss/
Also I assume on the maps, the spectator access roads that say Gold Parking, allow regular free spectator parking too? I guess there's just a dedicated parking area within it if you've got the pass?

Never been near the jump but yes sometime access road will be closed from early morning. It means you have to park on the main road and walk for 1-2-3 kms to reach stages, especially if you go at the start/finish of the stage. The passion will give you strength :)
I assume you can’t enter the gold parking roads without a gold pass, but not sure!
You can drive down and park on the gold pass roads. They have there own parking roped off nearest to the stage.

Rain is forecasted whole wednesday and thursday, with 20mm of rainfall on thursday. That's quite a lot, enough to cause small local floodings and (depending on how fast it falls) it can dig ruts into gravel roads.
Since they did Day 1 recce today friday morning could be quite interesting with deep new ruts in the road from the rain.

Again difficult to make predictions. I would guess that Neuville suffers being first on the road, despite the little rain. Ogier will capitalize on the situation, although second on the road is not much better but he's more used to it than Neuville. Tänak, Paddon and Lappi will be fast, but especially in the case of Paddon, it's questionable whether he finishes. The rest will be behind these five, difficult to say who's quick and who's not, but the Citroens seem kinda lost with Østberg having little experience of the car and Breen little experience of the event. Latvala is a big question mark as of nowadays. He could be fast or totally off the pace or then just crash out. Well, again an interesting rally ahead.

Neuville: We know that it will be a tough weekend for us. But we are lucky with the rain & it will maybe give us the opportunity to fight for podium positions. The target here is to get good points & if we are not able to fight in the front we have to accept it.

And seems one midday service is not enough to make that diff work proper
How?
How?
it's not an easy to setup center diff. You should make change and go and try it. It a bit of gamble to make that changes during a rally. Mikkelsen drove a Padon car last year with his center diff setup and struggle a lot without a possibility to change setup

You only now find it out?

Kajto is for sure better driver than Pieniazek -> something is wrong.

Like I wrote somewhere else, Kajto was not racing half a year, new codriver, new event. To many things going against him. He is real perfectionist and needs everything to work properly. I didnt expect so much from him on Sardegna...

Wow, interesting morning... finally Mikkelsen showing something good, let's see if he keeps it up. Neuville lucky with the rain, but now that the first loop is done he really needs to calm down, as he said.

It seems Lehtinen's presence did good for him. Although, both him and Katsuta need to stop crashing so much.

Ogier needs to start taking risks. He is not going to win championship by driving safely. Neuville is too consistent this season. The gap may be 30+ points after this rally.

Still a long way to go on this rally alone.

As far as I know, Kajto had problems with damaged wheel on SS 2 and since that time he was struggling with suspension.

The mistake in Portugal was the difference. He wont panic and start taking big risks here.
There are better rallies for him to come and maybe less good ones for the Hyundai's.
Ittiri is run tomorrow with single car runs, with access and exit roads added.
Oh, Houston... we got a problem here

Last year with Meeke Citroen had 3 cars in Sardinia, 1 destroyed, 1 out and last one on 8th place as last WRC. Should be possible to improve that. At least in the repair costs part.
are you happy now the Citroens are at their right place at the bottom of the leader board.
