It does matter, but I don't think there is much difference between the Focus RS and the Volvo as a recce car. It would be different if you would use like a Ford Transit or a Raptor or something.

The Volvos are 4WD and converted into almost group N specs, not so bad for a recce car.

On the other hand, when you sit high, the view you have on cuts and hidden obstacles is a lot better.
The idea is to spot them in recce and put them in the notes, because you might not see them when sitting low while rallying.

If you go slow enough and watch out of the side window, you can see them from any car. Sometimes I even get out of the car to take a look :)

One funny story to this topic. Years a go Czech gentleman driver Milan Liška was doing the recce of Rally Deutschland with a motorhome because his recce car broke down. The problems started in wineyards because the motorhome needed to reverse several times in each hairpin. As a result many crews were forced to slowly follow the motorhome.

Kremer was 9th in Deutschland and Bertelli could get same positions. Monte will take many victims so maybe an experienced driver not pushing too much could finish in the top 8

No, he says they have to check the intercom later because there is something strange with the sound. Going quiet and then louder again all the time. That is what they are discussing.

I hope the live stream allows us to hear the onboards without the commentator..Im sure that after the stage is over the co drivers can cut the sound so you cant hear what they're saying in the car to eachother, if they don't particularly want you to hear. Paul Nagle is usually very quick to do that after the flying finish ;)

For sure it can create a mess in results but also unfortunately if it's just a fraction of the whole stage it will be veeery boring to spectate there. All top drivers will go through on snail speed, only later will come some show with worse drivers who will start crashing and spinning here and there.

I didn't have a problem spotting them on Hänninen's car last year. Those mirrors are probably so expensive the engineers would tear their hair off if they covered them in foil and added weight. :rolleyes:

I agree... and although he numbers on the side windows and windscreens are bigger they are still hard to read as a car flashes past the camera.

If this wasn't the WRC+ All Live team's first time out and there weren't two stages, a long way away, immediately following the ceremonial start, they probably would have covered the start. Let's watch tonight and see how it goes.

Indeed it's a wasted opportunity in my opinion. All the hype and excitement about the new season was wasted instead of taken advantage of. You have to wonder if it was a logistic issue that they could not be ready with coverage for shakedown and the start or they simply thought people wouldn't be interested.

If you look at F1 they milk the preseason as much as they can to keep people engaged. Each car launch is an event and even preseason testing gets covered. Sure F1 has way more reach but ignoring the first official outing of the new season (Monte shakedown) and the ceremonial start won't help things. It would have been a perfect opportunity to do a relaxed preview (during shakedown) where you could see the cars but the commentators could talk in a more relaxed manner, maybe they could tell us what town Kris Meeke is from! They could show those "what you had for breakfast" interviews during the ceremonial start and leave just racing for the real stages. But no, they ignored it.

The Stop Control at the end of SS1 is ready. The temperature isnt far off 10°C and the road is dry. Apparently there is about 3km of rutted ice at Col de Fontbelle (around 1300m). But tyre choice will depend on the conditions over SS1 and SS2 combined. #RallyemonteCarlo #WRC

The Sisteron-Thoard stage has seen some drama over the years but this is the first time it is running from Thoard to Sisteron since 1981. It wont be any easier! Lots of spectators! #WRC #RallyeMonteCarlo
