Yes, but that has already been apologized for and to be fair the organizers are at fault for not ploughing the last 6km of a stage making the 2 first WRC cars slower than JWRC cars. And still it has been apologized for.

Couldnt blame him for Evans taking a penalty somewhere to give Ogier a chance.

2m48 down after the first day is a bit much even for him to fight back.

Tänak vs JWRC SS4 Winner Torn: 10.37.1 for Tänak, 11.41.4 for Torn. Last split Tänak 8,59.2, Torn 10.08.6, which means that for those last unploughed kms it took Tänak 1.37.9 and 1.32.8 for Torn. That is FIVE seconds faster in a FWD R2T.

shame for Lappi, otherwise we would have had 6 drivers in 15 seconds. Still top 5 within 13.2 seconds, look forward to tomorrow... A bit surpised by Latvala, despite road position still a bit out of pace in my opinion based on his skills and experience

Ogier his road order was bad, yes. And will be again. But he didn't complain when he opened the Friday stages in Monte Carlo pulling out all the mud for the drivers further back. You win some, you loose some. In Mexico he will not have to open.
Also, 2WD cars being faster then WRC cars because it wasn't ploughed. It happened on Monte Carlo on saturday morning too, with Nucita (or the other Abarth) taking a 5th time or something like that.

Awesome day for Neuville, hope he can keep it :)

Day 1 impressions:

In general as expected, with so much snow on the road and overnight snowfall the first runners were bound to loose a lot.

Positive:
- Paddon finaly back to some speed
- Breen

Negative:
- Meeke (sure road position wasn't best but still he was 2nd slowest after Ogier and Evans with puncture))
- Evans (again the words of Colin Clark about Evans fighting for title this year in any car come to mind)

As I said before, don't get your hopes up for a fight for the win. Breen and Ostberg will drop back without road advantage to Neuville, and considering Neuville finished day 1 ahead of both of his team mates who had better road position, this is his rally if he keeps it on the road. Would love to be proven wrong though

Sportsmanship imposes to remain cool? What are you a girl? If the situation is shitty the sportsman has every right to be frustrated. That is what he works his butt of every day. Emotions are a part of the sports, just like being unlucky with the road position.

Frustration is not an emotion but an attitude. An inability to accept things as they are and to hold others accountable for their own satisfaction. And for your simple satisfaction you do not have to ruin the existence of all those around you. When you enter the World Rally Championship you know the rules and accept them. Otherwise you do something else. There's only one who makes a mess.

Tarmop
16th February 2018, 17:34
FFS, that attitude is rallying on paper! Rules would mean a slight disadvantage, not 3 drivers, all capable of winning the event, were on the podium last year, two of whom have won it several times and one even started it with two stage wins and then BAM, they are 8,9 and 11, loose to a FWD car driven by a person first time in this event, because some part was left unploughed and with small chances of even getting into the top 5. And the biggest issue is...they dare to say, it sucks, they can`t be humans with emotions, they have to lie it`s dandy, just to keep some happy ( and others thinking wth has happened to fast drivers).

What him, and others here fail with that reasoning is that it happened on the Swedish side, not the Norwegian. And it is the Norwegians that would gain from it.

Also, none of us knows the rules and laws regarding the snowplough in Norway v Sweden. In no other situation you'll see the same person on both sides of the border.

From a spectator PoV this have been one amazing day with proper snow conditions. Ogier complained the last years as well (even though he had advantage then). He'll never be happy here.

Does anyone have pics of the latter part of SS4? From the sounds of it, the amount of snow is much more than what came down during the night!

Sidenote: We met the plough on SS Svullrya around 0430 local time today :-)

Umm, well, yes, i was not talking about that specifically but the frustration started before like i mentioned. Probably quite hard to mentally adjust to pushing hard and chasing hundreths. Although those second runs have also been more friedlier, last year podium for example, with small changes, identical to RMC.

Neuville lost 1:53 (4 secs/km) while running second on the road on SS9 in Monte due to fresh overnight snow on the road, which wasn't plowed.

Note that Neuville was 10s behind Meeke in the end. Does that make it French Ogier + Citroen conspiracy?

The wavelength of the yellow color helps the vision by correcting the myopia caused on the human vision by the decrease of luminosity and increases the perception of the reliefs on the snow or when the weather is foggy.

Ogier stage performances:

SS1: 9th (+2.5)
SS2: 10th (+12.5)
SS3: 12th (+18.2)
SS4: 11th (+22.0)
SS5: 12th (+28.0)
SS6: 11th (+35.5)
SS7: 22nd (+50.9)
SS8: 20th (+23.4)

And people wonder he complains ...I was wondering if someone else would perform better opening the roads. Ogier kept his nerves. There is something wrong with the regulations. If the first car on Friday is losing so much time then his rally is ruined because his starting position on Saturday is also terrible.

Sometimes the road position is an advantage not a disadvantage though - was Ogier complaining about unfair road order at Monte when he was gaining advantage with good road position for the conditions each day and others like Breen were losing so much time? Was he complaining previous years when Sweden didn't have much snow and cars down the order were losing their studs in the gravel? Sometimes the advantage/disadvantage is predictable, sometimes not. Rallying is affected by nature and weather, its just the way it is.

Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using TapatalkIt's not a slow car. It's just got a narrow operating window and can take a lot of risk and aggressive driving to get the best out of it. A slow car doesn't win rallies, and Meeke has already won rallies in it don't forget...

Great to see Breen on it this morning. I'd expect a Hyundai fight back on the next few stages judging by Mikkelsen's and Paddon's comments, and if Neuville can maybe fix his hydraulic issue

Yes.
Forgive me if I am not cheering but I am not all that impressed with this whole "unlimited testing" (for Sweden and Finland in case of Toyota). Pretty sure this wasn't what the rulemakers had in mind with that exception. Whole point of limited testing is that you shouldn't win by just outspending others on testing and the exception was that teams can check simple functional things just outside the team base.

Unsurprisingly (all) teams will use any loophole available. So M-Sport has own gravel and tarmac testtracks, Toyota uses parts of actual stages and I have no doubts Citroen and Hyundais do similar stuff.

I only thought theoretically how the system is working. I never saw a champion so desperate of the lack of chance to fight for something. Of course starting first on the road is not always a bad thing, sure it can also give an advantage. Ogier did pretty good last year. Latvala looking like a loser again... :(

Not the best move to show weakness to the enemy, isn't it? 10 years in the WRC and didn't learn to handle these situations...

Imagine Paddon and Breen taking a podium, and then both not competing in Mexico.

Citroen C3 really seems to perform better than in 2017 on the same rally. Even if there's still work to be done

Do we know how much stud overhang they are using today?
do all now use ice tyres with 6mm overhang, or are some on snow with 8mm?

This guy, I admire your passion for TN, but you vacated the spectator zone and then a marshall had to come and get you. Come on now, use your head.

It's a long shot, I agree, but should he manage he'd be the most experienced one to do it (in terms of WRC starts).

Even if there's still work to be doneYep, no Performnace improvements in Monte compared to last year, but there has been in Sweden. Let's hope they can continue to work on the car, and the main changes for 2018 come in Mexico on the C3
