Hello and once again welcome to FGP!
This is the 2017 edition and as usual if you wish to join please observe the following:

All teams have a budget of £48,000,000.
To complete the team, please pick three drivers (two official drivers and a 3rd driver), a chassis and a team engine.
A list of drivers, chassis and engines, with their relative prices can be found below.
Two of the three drivers must come from this price list.
The third driver choice, which costs £1m, is any driver that does not appear on the price list.
Finally, pick a bonus GP which will score double points for the team at that race.
Once complete please choose a name for your team and then post your entry here.

Price list and the complete rules can be found here: Fantasy Grand Prix (https://sites.google.com/site/2009fgp/home)

Thank you for reading and I hope we see you in our happy little fantasy game!

POSF1 Scraps Launch After Car Failure

Today, POSF1 have cancelled their planned unveiling of the POSF1-10 due to car problems.
"Today's engine problems for Fernando Alonso and poor lap times by STR have caused us to rethink our entrant for 2017" stated EJ Roller, team principal at POSF1. "We now have to go back to the office and further discuss what our entrant is going to consist of." Roller further stated.

"I am very disappointed with Honda" Alonso stated. "I have a good chance to join a winning organization and Honda screwed it up!"

There is currently no time table for POSF1's launch date.

Aki Racing Team are yet to reveal there launch date but rumours are circulating that the team may have a change of sponsorship for 2017.

The team is entering their sixth season of FGP and have had varying success in those years. Lets look back at the teams history.

The story started in 2011 when the team failed to meet the deadline for entering the 2011 FGP season. Following a season of testing and work on team structure 2012 saw the team make a debut.

2012 saw Aki Racing Team (ART) unable to gain sponsorship before the season started. Thus running on low funds the team struggled at the start of the season. However enjoyed a good run and finishing 32nd of 55 entries in year 1 was a solid start to life midfield.

2013 arrived and sponsorship in the shape of Hedgehog gutter brush. Forming the new look Aki's Hedgehog Racing Team. (AHRT) The team spent big on drivers securing Jenson Button & Valterri Bottas. However spending on high rated drivers lead to a Sauber chassis which endured an average season, coupled with Bottas Williams being poor and the Mercedes engine couldn't save the season. 2013 ended with AHRT finishing the season in 43rd of 46.

2014 arrived and with Hedgehog still in the name the AHRT aimed high with a Mercedes engine. However the Mclaren engine was a let down. Ricciardo was a top first driver but Maldonado added very little. However after the terrible backmarker season of 2013, it was a relief for the team to secure a midfield position of 15th of 32.

2015 arrived with a new sponsorship. Twix bringing money to ART. Making them Twix's Aki Racing Team (TART:D) and finally the team leapt into Championship contention. Raikkonen, Gutierrez, Ferrari and Mercedes gave the team a real shot. The TART narrowly missed out on the title to Henners F1. Finishing 2015 as runners up.

After the highs of 2015, 2016 was a disappointment. Once again Twix offered partnership. Mercedes & Ferrari were good performers again but Alonso & Gutierrez let the team down. Finishing 9th of 27 was a let down.

So what will 2017 hold for ART? We will find out over the next couple of weeks.

Today the Aki Racing Team (ART) finally revealed all for the start of the 2017 FGP.

After two years with Twix as the title sponsor the ART move to the large brand of Flora to provide the money to attack the 2017 title.

The team retain their link to Mercedes and keep the Chassis. The Ferrari Engine will power the team this season.

Massa will come out of retirement to lead FART while Ocon seems a bargain.

Interesting, as no-one else so far seems to have chosen Vettel as their lead driver.

I was thinking of doing this - Vettel-Kvyat-somebody-HaasF1-Ferrari.

I changed it because I think this is the first year STR is using an up to date spec engine. I remember a quote from Sainz that said driving with the previous year's engine was very hard. So I think STR might be in the points more often than usual.

Also, I hope Ferrari wasn't lying about their pace!!

N. Jones

To give even more context to my thinking.
My original team was going to be:

Verstappen-Alonso-Button-STR-STR-Italy

But once the Honda turned into a dog and STR finished last in testing I had to change the team.

He calls this year’s RS17 the first “real” car of Renault’s current era. The car that the team ran last year was inherited from Lotus – whose team had been bought by Renault – while they worked on this one.
“This is a new car from the ground up,” Bell says. “We had the time and the resources to do it. There are no carry-over parts from 2016 to 2017, not least because the technical regulations have changed so much that it wouldn’t be possible.”
Bell says the new car is the first product of a new partnership between the Enstone-based race team, which builds the chassis, and the engine facility at Viry-Chatillon in France.
Last season brought the Renault name back to F1 after a half-decade absence, but the manufacturer has made it clear that now intends to remain in the sport for the long term.
British driver Jolyon Palmer has been retained for a second season. With his 2016 team-mate Kevin Magnussen switching to Haas F1, Palmer has been joined by the experienced Nico Hülkenberg, who has pledged his long-term future to Renault’s F1 assault

Just hoping Palmer can get in the points, Ocan for FI too!

I should have won the championship in my debut 2015 season if not for some idiot admin/moderator. After being stuck with the Ferrari engines for 2016 I've decided to put all my efforts behind my junior team (and no more funny press releases). And I won the championship in style - apparently the first time anybody won the championship before the final round. Now I have nothing more to prove.

My WRC Pickem season was quite a success. I finished just one point shy of a podium after a year long battle (and scored my first win in Portugal). :)

I need a Mercedes win ton get back in the race, as this is my bonus race. It was also last season and that didn't work out too well for me :\\ . Perhaps Ocon can continue to score, and then their is Palmer. I'm not holding my breath for him, but the Renault is looking pretty good here in practice. Good luck to all!!

I thought for sure I would score a podium with the Ferrari 1-2, and now realize how many people had drivers that did better than Felipe and Ocon this race. Good job guys and gal, well played.

This is actually shaping up to be a year where a lot of teams might have a shot at FGP. The shake up in cars (and drivers) seems to be slowing any one team really dominating.

With the races we have been having this year I think the FGP results could be a crap shoot. There are a lot of teams with a mix that accounts for domination from Merc/Ferrari, and I think the drivers are going to have more impact than most years.

If the cars keep swaying back and forth as to domination, I think there is a good chance that team Il retorno di Sebastiano might have the solid strategy.

You're looking good for a top finish this year Tazzy. I'm only mentioning that hoping it all goes to crap and you get pushed out, obviously!

Depending on how the Ferrari/Mercedes tide moves (and this year the other drivers too really), I might have a shot at a podium if my bonus GP is a decent race. Being how it looks that Mercedes have the upper hand, more than likely I'm really looking at maybe a top 5 for the year, and that's only if Felipe and Ocon keep helping me make up points.

The lesser drivers and ups and downs of the other than top cars really seem to be shaking things up this year.

Should be interesting to see how Hungary points work out. Several Ferrari based teams, and both Vandoorne and Alonso selected as drivers. It might be a race that shakes things up a little bit in FGP, but then again it's been an interesting season all around so far.

I'm glad I picked Ocon. If he keeps it up he will score more points than Felipe. I hope nothing serious is going on with Massa, but not for the sake of my FGP team.

At some point after the first turn mess, I realized both Felipe and Ocon were out of the points. Maybe it would have been better for me in the long run if Ocon had not made it into 10th. Mr Jones how is Palmer's departure, going to affect my Fgp team? Do I get McSainz ;)

N. Jones
9th October 2017, 04:41
Nope.
This is an interesting question and I hope one which will make the Reserve driver situation more clear.

COD and I are the only ones who have Gasly. Thanks to the musical chairs, aka race seats we both have all three drivers on the grid.
This means that any points Gasly scores will NOT be counted to the team because both of our main drivers are still in a F1 race seat.
Reserve drivers replace any of a team's main drivers ONLY if one of the main drivers is not in a F1 seat on the grid.

For those of you who have Palmer - you are now out of a driver unless you have Gasly.

I Hope that this explanation plus seeing how the points are scored will enlighten everyone as to why the reserve driver should not be seen as a throw away pick.

It's a hard pick but usually you have to decide if you want a teams third driver just in case one of your main guys gets hurt or your third driver is to cover one of your main drivers who is rumored to be losing his seat.

Rumors & Mystery have it that Hamilton won qualifying with a time of 1 minute 27 seconds and 31 hundredths, and won the race with a time of 1 hour 27 minutes and 31 seconds. There is surely something fishy here!

Decent bonus race for Force Finland. Top 10 looks fairly secured for the season, but a drop from last years second. All Mercedes lineup seems to be the key this year

Congrats Taz. I was pipped to second on the last day.

FART is pleased with its competitive season. It follows 2nd last season. We have become a true front runner.

However Flora have announced an immediate axing of its ties with the team due to financial irregularities. So Aki's Racing Team will be seeking new sponsorship for 2018

Congrats to Tazio and the other podium finishers :)
And a big thank you to N. Jones for running it again this year!

As for "Il retorno di Sebastiano", Ferrari's third-quarter slump (and my bonus GP Singapore in particular) hurt us pretty bad, but we'll be back even stronger next season (don't they all just say that ;) )

Great season of domination Taz. I think you held the lead longer than any other season I remember. Good job dude!

I'm surprised I got in the top 10, but the tifosi in me made me stay with the reds. I'd rather slide down some in FGP if it means that the Merc cars had some challenge this year, and at least that did happen at some races. How I ended up winning at Spa is just luck this year.

Thanks for all the work you do to make this happen N. Jones. I hope we can get more people involved.

Hello.
Just popped in to say that we are keeping warm in FGP Headquarters thinking of the new season which is starting later than usual. We will be ready to accept entries later this month, so keep those eyes sharp for a new thread!

steveaki13

Aki's Racing is team is beginning to sweat as of yet no new sponsors have showed interest despite two great seasons 2nd & 3rd in the Championships.

Team boss Steveaki13 played it all down

" We are quietly going about our business in this 2018 off season. We have a solid idea of our team ethos and we wait with excitement for N.Jones international agency to announce the rules. We were disappointed the way that Flora deserted us but who wanted to be FART anyway.

We will be announcing any updates asap"

The world is eagerly waiting for FGP pre season to start
