AMID all the changes made to Formula 1’s management by new owner Liberty Media, this may be the most crucial: Ross Brawn has been brought on board.

Makes perfect sense, so it is a surprising move for F1

Yeah the perfect appointment for an approachable guy who has always been forward thinking.

Exiting times ahead!

I'm not as impressed by Brawn as a number of you are. We're talking about a guy who rejected the F1 champion for Michael Schumacher in 2010.

I'm saying his "motor racing intelligence" is greatly exaggerated, but he has got tremendous value out of it.

I'm posting this for future reference, now that his tenure has begun.

Brawn's stature and reputation came from designing cars. How that translates to managing the overall organization remains to be seen, so I'm with you on this.

Ross told them all about how somebody might design a double diffuser , they dismissed the danger , and he ran the table that year .
I'd say that shows him as well clever , and able to work the crowd .

But , most key is not seemingly having many , or any real enemies in the paddock .

I'll add to my opinion to say I think he'd be good to notice any sneaky tricks teams would like to try regarding the design of the cars.

Except that is not going to be his job. That's what the technical inspectors are for.

Quite likely he will sit on the Strategy Working Group on behalf of the commercial rights holder though. So he would be in a position to make sure any new rule proposals are be better thought out and less open to exploitation by the teams.

True, but the main part of the job is negotiating with tracks, sanctioning bodies, etc. and I can't help but wonder if that plays to his strengths. Bernie was a master at it, much to the dismay of the tracks. Brawn may well prove to be just as good, but that remains to be seen.

Brawn's not replacing Bernie. He's "Managing Director of Racing" - his job apparently is to improve the racing. Chase Carey is replacing Bernie.
