WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!! Getting ready to head down to the track but wanted to start this thread so I can catch up Monday on all the action this weekend. (When you are at the track, you miss alot because its such a big place) We won our garage passes this time from Yeley's fan club. Im really excited because we are supposed to have a set time to meet privately with JJ as well as some other perks that we dont usually get to do when we get our passes elsewhere. :p : We have also became friends with this other couple who were friends of Dale Sr & Teresa and they have always got their passes directly from DEI. They took us into the drivers motorcoach area at the last race and we met alot of interesting people including Dale Sr's former bodyguard. They feed all the drivers steak on race day and this time we are helping. :p : I ordered a pineapple upside down cake to take to Yeley today because thats his favorite. (to thank him for our passes)

Im so pumped and cant wait to see what this weekend holds. :bounce:

Yeley has a substitute PR person this wkend. Her husband is Stewart's PR person. She told me about the situation with Tony this morning. I was shocked that they wouldnt let Tony's hauler enter.
Today we took care of some autographs that we wanted to get. Hubby got some pics of me when I was getting Jeffypoo's autograph. :p : We got to go on top of Yeley's hauler during practice and took some pictures.
Was practice televised? JJ had some damage to the front during the 1st practice. I was trying to eavesdrop when he was talking about it while they repaired it but couldnt hear the whole conversation. What I think I heard was that Montoya (?) just about stopped in front of him and then he said to himself "what the F***". Just wondering what actually happened.
This afternoon I got Kurt Busch's autograph and afterwards this man came up to me and introduced himself as an AP photographer. Said he took a nice pic of me and Kurt then asked for my name in case it is published. That would be cool. Is there a website where all AP photo's are posted?
Got some nice pics of Jr & Tony & Jeffypoo... well got some pretty good pics of alot of drivers. Oh and Yeley's coach driver was talking to us about one of JJ's golfcarts being for sale. He said if we bought it, he would have JJ sign it and that he would deliver it to us. Its supposed to be really nice with a custom body that looks like a sprint car. If we get our old house sold, we may have to take him up on it. :D
We didnt stay for all of qualifying because our son had a sporting event at school.
I'll post some pics when I get them all uploaded.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhh :dozey:

How I wish I could be at Talladega.

Oh well will have to make do with watching it on the plasma with the sound turned up. One day I will make it there, I promise myself this.

Have a great day to anyone who is there, and spare a thought to the rest of us who are just to far away to even think about getting there.

Go Kurt Busch, make the old Blue Deuce fly, you have been so close at Talladega so many times, I have a feelin it's your turn now. :)

Sad bit, last time we were at Talladega was Benny Parson's last commentary, thoughts to the big man !

It should be mentioned that Michael Waltrip was 20th fastest out of 52 cars, yet because of the top 35 didn't qualify. Due to it being an impound race, the 'must qualify on speed' cars are in qualifing trim while a bunch of the cars in the top 35 were already set up for the race and were much slower in qualifing.

The make it on speed or go home cars had to concentrate on qualifying, the rest could afford to go with race set-ups. :s

Mikey missing the race isn't a huge shock but seeing Dave Blaney and Ken Schrader miss the race is a shame - particularly for the Wood Brothers. If NASCAR should protect any teams it should be the likes of the Woods who have done so much for the history of our great sport.

Yea, wrong choice of words on my side. :) "Interesting" or "weird" would have been better choices but oh well. But then again, DEI cars were there, Robby was there after being fast in both practices, Sadler should also be pretty fast.
I think/hope they all can find their way to the top pretty soon after the green flag drops. :)

I was surprised to see Dale Jr & Truex Jr qualify in the back but Jonesi's theory makes sense to me ...
The RCR & DEI cars likely had a race set-up on them because they knew they were "safely" in the field ...
however the DEI #15 car of Menard had to qualify on speed, so he likely had a qualifying set-up.

e2mtt
28th April 2007, 20:05
That is interesting:Gibbs, DEI, RCR, & Robby Gordon (who was flying in practice), all of whom run great in plate races, qualified right in the back. It is pretty obvious they were setting up for the race, not for qualifying.

28th April 2007, 20:14
That's the big problem with impound events. There's a bunch of fast guys at the back ready to run in the top 10 all day and a bunch in the front to middle of the pack, with cars on the razor's edge of handling and unstable in traffic just waiting for the first yellow pit stop to adjust them. That's just plain dangerous.

BTW This is the final race here for the old car, the fall race will be CoT.

My man Juan was fun to watch today and it looked like he was having a lot of fun too.

He is mixing it up with the top dogs as he was doing his drafting/streaming/bumping/racin' thing and even though you can't see his face, I could visualize him smiling with his "I'm going to get to the front" look.

He is learning fast aint he?

Great Busch race yesterday and am hoping for similar from the Cup drivers today.
Jeff Gordon looks like he has the car to beat but am really looking forward to a great run for Sterling today. The #14 car looks to be very strong and Sterling knows how to win plate races. How long will it take the RCR cars and Jr to get to the front - I'd say not too long.
Finally good luck to 'The Hermanator' Kenny Wallace. Great qualifying run yesterday and its great to see a new single car team running pretty well against the might of Toyota.

Great race for 350 miles but the last 150 were a disappointment. Did anyone else worry about how long it took for NASCAR to throw the caution as Reutimann blew up? When the #00 had its problem McMurray was clearly the leader, however NASCAR seemed to wait 'til Jeff had passed before throwing the caution. I think this helped to decide the race.
On a plus side it was great to see Sterling dominate the first 30 laps or so. Just a shame the car faded but looks like 14th which is great for owner points.
Also strong runs for the likes of McMurray, Stremme and for a long time Kenny Wallace were nice to see.
I think 'Smoke' was a little harsh on Gilliland though - its likely the #38 had damaged steering so I don't think he deliberately dumped Tony.

I think that goes back to Daytona where they don't want to throw a caution so close to the finish. Besides, if there was oil on the track, the field wouldn't come back to it for about 50 seconds.

So very true!! Dominant all day. But some Gordon bashers will claim the race was rigged somehow. Also the only reason I dislike the Gordon anti's is they have an uncontrolable urge to disgrace all of NASCAR by throwing tons of ship on the track when he wins, it's unfortunate but they're simply true lowlifes.

I think it was a very sad day for nascar yesterday to see "fans" behaving like hooligans here again.I'll never wear any of my jr t-shirts again as dont want any association to these sort of people, its a shame as jr himself is so cool.Ive been looking into travelling over from the uk to the october event but feel very put off right now.Hopefully the beer can throwers are just a very small element of the fans and most are as friendly as Cindy.

NASCAR needs to turn back the clock in my opinion. I missed the entire race yesterday, and I hate to say it, but I am glad I did. I went to the White Sox game yesterday, and when I got to my car and turned on sirius radio, all they were talking about is how fans threw things on the track. Same thing on the way to work this morning. Would be nice if they would talk racing instead of fan behavior.

Anyways, NASCAR needs to shape up, and fast. First of all they need to set clear rules for when the caution should come out. I did not see the race, but I do know that when a car blows its engine, sometimes they throw the C, other times they dont. They need to take the same stance every time.

This RED flag for a green white checkered finish crap is BS. Run the races the correct length. I understand the not racing back to the caution rule (Which I hate but I understand), but red flagging races for a green finish is stupid. I think it took the Busch race an hour Saturday to finish the final 16 laps. What a waste of time. When I go to a race, of course I want it to end under green, but it shouldnt always be that way. One of these days they are going to red flag a race and some top car is not going to be able to restart. Its a joke. What if a 500 mile race needs to go 505 miles and cars start running out of gas. Its really driving me nuts.

Every race is ending in contravercy, its getting old.

BTW there was a plastic bag blowing down my street on Sunday evening. I ran out into the street with a yellow flag and made sure that cars went around it until it blew off the street. Things were pretty tense for a minute or 2.

Without theyre own cheap cans to throw tho maybe the'yll use larger objects like seats?
Are nascar actually planning on investigating what happened and issuing fines on the organisers or maybe even threaten to take a race off them.
Does this sort of thing happen at other tracks, its not something ive seen elsewhere.

Are nascar actually planning on investigating what happened and issuing fines on the organisers or maybe even threaten to take a race off them.
Does this sort of thing happen at other tracks, its not something ive seen elsewhere.

two years a go at the coca cola 600 when jimmie won his third in a row a couple morons in my section threw a can or two, but it was only a few people. phoenix this year, at gordon too... seems on this large a scale though, only talladega (as far as i can remember)

I was at the chicagoland raceway a few years ago and was one of the last few into the stands. Anyway out in the parking lot putting things away from tailgating 3 guys were walking by and walked up to this truck that had Jeff Gordon sticker, flags ect all over it. One guy ripped one of the flags off the truck and started opening coolers in the bed of the truck. I said "WHAT THE F*** DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?" while his friends watched and said nothing until I did. Then his friends said yea don't do that. What's wrong with you? Exactly the kind of lowlifes that throw ship on the track. I was really disgusted after having such a good time tailgating with friendly strangers.

Tell them to stay home if they can't stand the sight of Jeff Gordon or anything with his name, colors or number on it.
Sammy Hagar is cool!! :D
