Not very good though, way too high and far back
Yes true, but at least better than usual. Saying that, probably everything will be shit again in Sweden.

WRC17
21st January 2017, 12:46
nothing wrong with the car.

Lefebre is a tomato can

Meeke is just meeke doing stupid things and now he just does not push.

At this point citroen must find a formula to bring in Mikkelsen and then decide if they keep Meeke or Breen as No2

Meeke could be champion if he repeats his Finland performance on most of the gravel events this year.

About Citroen and other team. The truth of January is not necessarily that of February. And even less that of the end of the championship. Do not forget, it is only the first event. And very special event, where the luck, has a significant share in the Result. The final judgments of professionals Devins, can soon become the jokes of the year. ;)

Compare Mikkelsen with Lefebvre is just stupid. Andreas, has 78 departures in the WRC 10 years of experience. Stéphane 25 departures on 3 years. It should be to remain serious.

The live footage of SS12 was good.. I would like them to improve the sound balance though so that we hear more engine sound and pacenotes and less commentators.. including when they cut to the chopper.

This is how Eurosport did it back in the IRC days and it really added to the atmosphere / drama.

Most likely. But I guess a mechanical part can get too strained to the point where it gives up. Either by rash driving or bad construction. But in a rally like Monte rash driving isn't really common.

Since it's the rear suspension I would place my bet on he slid wide and touched something.

The Belgian succeeds in nursing his damaged car to the finish. He's lost 32 minutes. The i20 is crabbing sideways, and the right-rear wheel is out of alignment, but otherwise the car looks okay. I haven't seen Neuvilles crash, but Ogiers exit on ss3 could have easily finished his rally with a rock on the right place, so he can be classified as lucky.

Little moment at 21min on ss7 for Ogier as well

Neuville got a 40 sec penalty for being 4 mins late in service. He must have done some great time on the liaison with that crabby car. He dropped one place overall, just behind Hanninen and 9th in constructor classification. Maybe he can take some points on power stage and could overhaul also Hanninen for constructor points.

On ewrc-results he is 8th because he has his penalty counted to total time, anywhere else it appears that his penalty isn´t added to time. But I would agree with you about that 8th place.

The others needed to take advantage of Ogier's time loss after his off into the ditch yesterday. He usually only makes two mistakes a year...

And he will only get stronger with more testing time in the new car.

Neuville had a 51 sec lead and needed to manage it.

Real sad for Neuville. MC it’s probably the hardest rally on WRC; one got to have outstanding mental strength, and Ogier’s luck, to win it. Hope tomorrow the Belgium can take PS max points.
On the bright side there was Evans stage wins and Latvala’s excellent times (fingers crossed for a podium!).
Btw, I’m amazed with the forum idiot reaction to Toyota’s fine performance: it takes some nerve to still call Makinen’s team the finish village idiots. What a moron!

On Kremer’s disappointment over WRC2 privateers small chances: a sort of WRC2 Trophy (or a AM category like in LM GTE) could be created, but support championships like WRC2 must be open to manu’s team. That’s the way to attract more brands into WRC and it’s been common practise since almost ever (Gr.A in Gr.B days, F2/Kit Cars in Gr.A/WRC era and even the last JWRC years).

So, forecast says that Ss14 and 16 will be wet and light or moderate rain can be expected. Tempetrature between +2..+4

SS15 and Ss16 should be so that rain until elevation 1100 meters and after that there should be mostly snow. Looks like 2-3 cm by first pass and 3-4 cm for the second pass. Rain/snow should start around 5 AM, arriving from the south. temeparture at the bottom of the mountain is +2..+3 and up there should be a few degrees minus. So, who wants to win powerstage, must take some risks. I assume that Evans tyres are not working in this conditions, Meeke is out, so, Powerstage will be 1. Neuville, 2. Ogier, 3. Latvala, 4.Tänak, 5. Hänninen

its a rod that they use to measure the height of snow

The rod is a sign for the snow plough when cleaning the road.
But the rod did not do the damage. They break easily when hit.

The damage was done by the small beton barrier on the ground (small bridge).
The rod was there to mark it.

The village team of Toyota are doing better than the legendary Citroen. Sick dogs M-Sport with Wilson just trying to make cash seem to be doing OK too ;)

best looking car imho

Best looking serious rally car, I think. IMHO the RGT cars are miles ahead for looks (but miles behind for rallying, still it's nice to mix in 3 or 4).

21:01.... 90 degrees sideways at 120 kp/h....

Unlike ss3 the handbrake worked for him this time, the corner itself was at 80km/h though, the wheelspin climbed it to 120ish.

Monstrous drive from him on this stage

How silly, not a very Monte-like mistake since it was on a dry stage and he was on slicks. Might as well happen in Corsica.

Awesome video from Passats de Canto, including a mistake by Ogier he did not mention

I don't see any mistakes worth mentioning?

there is nothing awesome in a car going 40kph on ice where sliding a bit wide and ruin everything is a matter of luck not skill...

you are everything that is wrong in this world kid if you consider these things awesome
What a harsh, shitty comment you made. Uncalled for.

He hits a bank at 4:40, maybe he meant that one. If Meeke had done the same thing there probably would have been a big rock in the snow.

No, the bank he mentioned was on ss13 after Neuville's crash, there was a black ice on left corner, the car slid and bumped a little on a bank. On this video there is nothing like that, just small excursion on a small ditch I believe.

Evans has had some impressive pace but I guess we've seen the same thing from him in the past too - extremely fast one day, extremely slow another and he never seems to know why. If he can figure out the key to the fast days and do that consistently he could be a real contender.

For once i have to slightly agree, it's a bit strange when you could be faster with a standard STI or EVO on softer stock studded tyres.
This year i guess you could have got away with running the old short studded tyre like this, ruins the tarmac a bit though. Not sure what they did with the brakes back then as 16" won't fit over tarmac brakes.

I meant the mistake Francis44 mentioned, not the one Ogier mentioned. Was a bit ambiguous.

thoughts to end of Saturday:

Impressive debut for Toyota. All of those doom seekers proved wrong.
Monte Carlo is indeed different to all the other events, but first time out of the box is very very good.

Great results so far for Ford also. Ogier and Tanak going well.

Hyundai obviously have the pace, and may well be the best car.

Citroen: not as good as expected.

Neuville not as good mentally as the World Champion, making little mistakes when there was no need to push given the cushion he had.

Ogier is the world champion. New car, new team, and doing well.

Still another day to go.

Remembering that Monte Carlo is a very different event.

Maybe what Finnish village teams can do is big surprise for Greek village idiot living in England in basement..

Not sayin' any names, though...

Likewise what the outdated Ford which was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo wrong, very odd results..
So much for ex-spurts.
