Too bad, if they go to 3 minute gaps again, it might be too close to do 4 gravel stages again!

bearclaw
8th September 2016, 12:40
Real shame to cancel the first stage. With 4 stages in one loop it was possible to watch 4 stages a day. With that tight itinerary it’s nearly impossible. But if there is a 3 minute gaps as you said it sounds logical to cancel the first one.

Sordo has never gone well on the gravel of day 1 and always leaves himself too much to do. It would be great to see him battle the VW'S on the tar.

Prokop didn't sit out for long did he. Was assuming we'd see some Hyundai R5s but none on the list. Veiby jumps back up to WRC2 ahead of next year I guess.

Juuso Nordgren up into the Dmack Trophy too, also maybe ahead of next season.

I'm sure I read somewhere someone said that he would try to win the WRC2 title outside of Skoda. Can't remember whether that was on here or not. Has the relationship broken down?

Blast from the past on closer inspection of the entry list.

BRC fans of a certain era will know the name Mats Andersson for all his rallies in the Proton.

Catalunya is his first WRC event since Rally GB 1999 according to our friends at eWRC - http://www.ewrc-results.com/profile.php?p=2558

Could be difficult to get more than 2 stages a day. Maybe Saturday you'll get 3. Bring a torch, you'll be walking the early stages in the dark. Haven't much experience of the new stages on Saturday. Terra alta is best of the gravel stages on Friday. Lots of different options. It's easy enough to walk all the stages and pick your own spots. Just get there early

I suppose there is not much point Skoda investing in Lappi anymore if he's packing his bags and leaving.

They can't expect to compete in WRC2 and not have this happen though. Surely the whole point is they get the best drivers on the way up to WRC. It's been clear for a while there is no room at the inn at VW. So Lappi has to look elsewhere. I'd have thought Skoda would honour the contract - but maybe things really have broken down behind the scenes.

If Lappi did test the Toyota maybe that voided his deal - or gave them grounds to? That's pure speculation though.

We don't know what's in the contract, it might have been pretty 'loose'

Of course, if he was going to VW then i'm sure he would be doing these final events.

Looks like Tidemand probably staying with Skoda next year then..

Esapekka's and Škoda relationship begin in middle of 2012 season, as his first rally was Rally Poland 2012, which was in late September, so maybe it was just 4 years deal, even it doesn't make sense to sign contract not until the season end.

Hi all, about the weather. YR.no is good. It has some downsides, but you can get over these when you know what are these ;)

So, the first you must make sure you avoid coastal region between Salou and Barcelona on Wednesday noon and afternoon. Very, very, very heavy rainfall is expected in this region (yes the storm is coming). Not sure where the center of the rainfall is going to hit but magnitude of the rain is expected to be stronger than Corsica 2015. So, it is likely that Salou superspecial might be badly damaged and asphalt stages will be affected.

Rain should be over by shakedown but if the rain hits this region, I am not sure that shake is driveable ;) temperature +18..+20
Barcelona SS is most likely rainy ,moderate to strong rain, tempreture +18--+20, light wind.
Friday:
Morning is a bit chilly (just over +10), might be still a bit humid from previous days(not so much rain expected here on Wednesday) Temperature in the morning stages is around +15..+18, sunny and relatively strong wind, 7-9 m/s. Only stage 2, might be more wet from previous days.

Afternoon, wind drops to nearly zero, sunny, temperature around +20 degrees

Saturday:
SS8 -9 are the ones that should get also a lot of rain on Wednesday and there might be some damage to the road and dirt. Morning temperatures are relatively cold. It is possible that temperature for first two satges is little less than +10 degrees or just around it, it is sunny and windy
SS10-11 are expected to get also a lot of rain on Wednesday and on Thursday and might be also on Friday and is sunny on Saturday and temperature around +13..+16.

Afternoon stages are also sunny and temperature around +18..+20
Salou SSS Sunny since Thursday, +18..+20

Sunday
Morning stages +15..+16 little cloudy, by the way, sun rises after the stage start! No rain expected
Noon stages: just around +20, little cloudy, no rain.

So, mostly no rain on the stages but extreme storm just before rally is expected. It is likely that only gravel stages are not affected by storm.

Thank you for this important and detailed weather forecast. I’m going to rally Spain for the first time and hope the rally will not become a chaos rally with a lot of cancelled stages.

But now we are prepared that everything can happen. Hope the big storm stays a bit away.

What are your special stage plans?

we are going to
ss2 / maybe regroup / ss6 / service
SS8 / SS 11 if it’s possible to switch in time/ SS 12 / SS 15 /service
SS 16 / SS 18

11th October 2016, 11:44
Thanks Bluuford, hope it turns not sooo rainy tomorrow but let's wait and see.

Latest forecast tells that gravel stages get just a fraction of rain compared to others Day 2 stages get the most and Barcelona will be the place where main cyclone and smaller cyclone meet and its is possible that planes are not flying to Barcelona tomorrow evening and night or will be delayed.

peak is earlier, heavy rain afternoon and water mass should be the worst between 3 and 5. Over 50-60 mm is expected there in a few hours, that is 5-6 cm thick layer of water everywhere, now put that mass into motion from higher aeras, roofs etc. Nice :)

Don't think so. P1 shakedown still should start at 8. In bulletin 3
it's just an addition of the missing P1 in the regulations for the second shakedown slot for all priority cars as usual.

As someone who makes their living from analysis, I get a little frustrated with this sort of comment. When you say 'statistic crap' you are in fact referring to an instance of a 'fact'. Whether that fact means anything requires more work. Just because someone is 'crap' at the other work does not mean everyone is crap at the the other work. Generally the DMACK instance would be evaluated a number of ways. First off there is the basic. An event occurring 8 times means there is less than 0.5% this is a random or chance event. Second, single values on their own offer very little to analyse. It would be much better to have the ratio of one value to another value, and then compare. Just sayin.

FRI 16:14 - SS7: TANAK
Looks like ninth overnight for the Estonian who has harvested more valuable tyre info for DMACK. "The surface here is dry and I've never ever felt anything that soft. It was properly cooking up everything. It was a big challenge to get through. We've had a long list of dramas today.

Pierre-Louis Loubet does a good job until now, when you take his experience into consideration. A guy to watch for the future...

I thought so already in portugal... He's also in the problematic DS3 and he seems to have the funding as well.

Sordo 17 sec ahead from Ogier.
are they enough for the tarmac stages?
.

On an ordinary tarmac event Ogier could dirty up the surface from his 'first on the road' position. However, the cuts will be much softer than usual and second run is likely to be very slippy. I think it could be very close. Ogier's best approach may be keeping a very smooth line on the black stuff.

Tidemand getting ahead of Kopecký in the last gravel stage. Still it's superb position for Jan for the asphalt stages.

Yes, nice close and quite unexpected battle between the Skoda boys so far.

Just reading that Jan broke rear suspension in the last hairpin of the stage. Hopefully he can get to service!

Fri 16:42 - SS7: WRC 2 Tidemand
Tidemand is 8.7sec quicker on stage than Kopecky and takes the WRC 2 lead by 3sec. "That's okay, but it's not been a completely smooth day. I haven't been perfect, neither has the car. All good experience. Okay, rally can be complicated sometimes."

Fri 16:39 - SS7: WRC 2 Kopecky
Trouble for the leader of the WRC 2 class who completes with the rear-left wheel of his Skoda wobbling. "It happened right in the last hairpin, I slid wide and 'bump'. Hopefully I can get back okay. It's a good battle with Pontus. We are much closer to him this year."

Best day for Mads in a while...

Autosport:
"M-Sport's Mads Ostberg sits just outside the top five heading into Saturday in one of his most competitive days of the WRC season...despite a transmission problem pulling the car sideways under braking and acceleration..."

Imho Ogier will be leading before the end of saturday with or without rain.
How are the chances he will become world champion sunday?

With the current standings, he will be champion. 2nd place is normally enough for him.
