Yeah, that is my all-time favorite Indy car. That and Bobby Unser's 1968 winner, the Rislone (Bob Wilke) Eagle / Offy. The paint schemes for both machines couldn't have been a better match to each respective car IMO

I have to admit, if the next gen Indy car looks anything close to this proposal, I'll certainly give this series a try. They haven't shown us a lot. But what little that we have seen harkens back to (better) days of old. Pretty sweet, IMO.

No airboxes, no Danica and maybe Alonso in a future full season McLaren entry. Good start right there! :burnout:

Well, it's only taken 22 years for me to be able to say this: that's a pretty darn sharp IRL Indy car. Now I feel like I need to be on the lookout for Queen Mary to try to burn me at the stake as a heretic.

Have a look at this rendering. This is the oval configuration. Especially versus the darts and Pep Boys clearance sale nightmares that we've seen, me rather likey.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Verizon IndyCar Series announced Tuesday two developments in the production of its 2018 Indy car.
Testing dates have been set:
–The car will undergo its first paces July 25-26 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the series can take a look at the new universal bodywork kit’s superspeedway oval configuration.
–The road course configuration will be tested Aug. 1 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. IndyCar also has scheduled two other tests, one Aug. 28 at Iowa Speedway and Sept. 26 at Sebring International Raceway.
Longtime partner Dallara will manufacture the universal bodywork kits.
–Dallara already builds the IR-12 chassis for IndyCar and will make sure the new kits fit those chassis.
“This has been a collaborative effort from multiple parties, including input from our paddock and fans,” IndyCar president of competition and operations Jay Frye said in a news release. “Dallara has been a great partner, and we couldn’t be more enthused with the look, the safety enhancements and the performance objectives of the 2018 car.”

Bit harsh on Will Power, isn't it?

I agree the 2018 car looks good... but, that gearbox (or whatever it is that sticks out of the back), looks like an awfully scary thing to crash into at 220mph!!! (Especially with such a low nose).

And, no fenders... wont that result in more airborne cars???

Fenders = no open wheel. All hail NASCAR.

Would it help if you called it "single seater", like we do on our side of the pond :-p ;-) :-) :-)

The rear wheel covers were ineffectual for their intended purpose, and made the cars seriously back end heavy in the bargain.
Good Riddance.

They looked like shit and became a dangerously large piece of debris in a lot of crashes.

They might look better but they're still the same old crapola spec DW12s underneath...
