route revamp for LOTOS 73rd Rally Poland 2016.
Livewireshock
30th March 2016, 10:27
The biggest problem I found when I attended Rally Poland last year was having all the stages accessed from a single major road for both competitors and fans. So when one stage became dangerously overcrowded with drunk fans and causing it to be cancelled, they simply flooded and crowded the one access road. Thus the route became blocked for competitors, media and all, compounding troubles for other stages. So I hope this new route addresses these issues.

Just a few access roads which were closed a few kilometers before stage. All others access roads were closed totally.

Hello everybody.
We´re going to Poland from Spain this year.
Anybody would tell me about the special stage when last year Ott Tanak take an enormous fly??
Thanks a lot.
In the official webpage you can see the day maps and SS maps too.

The stage is called Swietajno. This year there is a spectator area, so there won't be as wild place as last year. Its nearby Rosochackie village

For anyone interested, there's the possibility of a VIP ticket with car sticker, that allows you to get nearby more places on stages than other spectators. You basically get access to the same places as the tabard media does. VIP ticket + car pass costs some 90 euros more than an ordinary ticket + car pass. It's not cheap but something to consider if you have a car full of people.

Best day is day one with legendary jumps on Chmielewo and Świętajno stages. Świętajno is in the same configuration as year 2015 so check WRC+ onboards. Stare Juchy is same as in 2014 (for most of the stage)
Day two got Stańczyki and Babki interesting and Goldap not interesting at all. Goldap is same as 2015, Babki is in parts same as 2014.
Day three we've got two equally poor stages, but we'll be too tired to notice I hope.
Have a nice rally

Any idea about the weather? Looks like some rain in the weekend?
Mostly nice weather for today, tomorrow and Wednesday, maybe some light rain tomorrow in some location and temperature around 22..25 degrees during the days.
Thursday is quite hot, temperature reaching +27..+28 degrees and after that, during the night and early in the morning we might expect some rain and rapid drop in temperature to +20..+23 degrees. Rain probability is more realistic and possible rain is a bit stronger on the westernmost stages and less influencial on the eastern stages, however, I think it does not play any important role there.
Most of Friday and Saturday should be rain-free. Satruday is warmer again and +24..+26 is expected. Some rain might be expected on Saturday night again, but not too significant for gravel rally.
Sunday temperature might be a bit lower again, around +20..+24 degrees.
So, most of the rain should be during the nights and days are not too hot and nights are not too cold (+18..+20), wind will be mostly very light. So, very temperate conditions for temperate climate, Maybe only Thursday a bit too warm and Satruday nearly a bit too warm :P

http://www.wrc.com/en/wrc/news/june-2016/citroen-poland-preview/page/3667--12-12-.html
Who do people think will have the better rally? Lefebvre has had 3.5 gravel outings in the DS3 WRC (the .5 is Catalunya) and should be way more comfortable in the car. He's also got more experience of the Polish stages.
Breen has more all-round experience as a driver let's say, but if he's able to do better than Lefebvre that would be impressive.

So no point in commenting on the red carded rally having a 30 minute delay to start of shakedown then after just 7 cars the shakedown is stopped for another half hour due to spectator control problems. Hopefully Polish media help send out strong messages on spectator behaviour so no further problems over next 3 days

I think Breen will show he is the better bet for the No2 spot next year. BUT in order to cement it he needs to show considerably better form than SebFeb!
But given his long experience on gravel I think he will show this. Which is a problem for Citroen as it's in their constitution 'Il est nécessaire d'avoir un pilote qui est nommé Sebastien.'

Interesting question for Suninen and his agent. If he gets offered a WRC drive for next year he should take it IMO - because the works chance may not come round again. You never know. If he can get himself a two-year deal like Camilli did then at least he buys himself some time to learn on the job.
We've seen how hard it is to dislodge the current crop of drivers will all the experience and seat time they have.

The old days are over where he could do whatever he wanted with his oil money promoting dogs to teams in WRC... Now teams prefer to hire real rally drivers.

He won 2 out of 3 events in WRC2 in his second year in the category. I think it is hard to ask him more. Of course he has to work on different aspect since he is not like Ogier yet... :)
Suninen drove his first event in WRC2 in Germany last year. He did two rounds in FRC 2015 with Fabia S2000. Poland is his 17th start in 4WD car. I wouldn't say he crashes too much, though it's not unheard of. His learning curve has taken me by surprise. He is now on far higher level than he was a year ago. Or half year ago. He is progressing fast. Suninen is not taking the normal path anyway, so I say it wouldn't be bad for his career to step up if possible.

It has been very big surprise! Rather sure that Suninen will drive Toyota next year. It seems that he is better than Lappi and Tommi wants at least one Finnish driver who is able to fight with the WRC top drivers in the future...

Suninen is of course an exceptional talent, and all tough I - on a general basis - think drivers need a little maturity - age - before they go to WRC, Suninen is a driver I think could handle it. Just as long as he is in a good program with out to much pressure.
He is incredible.
Pontus, Lappi and off course Evans are VERY good drivers, with MUCH more experience, and still Suninen beats them hands down.
I saw him first time on the Neste Rally Finland in 2014, and it was a lot of talk about him. He had very little rally experience, but he drove REALLY well. I think he finished 17th overall and 3rd of the 2WD cars.
Timo Jouhki has also done a very good job with him, and also the time with Toyota has off course been benificial.
Will be very interesting to follow this young gentleman in the future :)

As we all know, Jouhki was behind Hirvonen and is still behind Latvala also. And I heard he was seen in Lithuania couple of weeks ago when the son of Rovanpera was driving there. Quite interesting...
Maybe one season more WRC2 for Suninen would be good, IMO Hirvonen wasn't ready for factory seat when he was signed for Subaru. As we saw few years ago, there is no harm for the driver to drive a car in the lower class. (Ogier with s2000 Skoda 2012)

I understand the need for time to develop - but at the same time it's also important to sign that big deal when your stock is at its highest. For instance maybe last year Lappi had more hype behind him than he does now? Guys like Tidemand and Suninen have shown they are on the same level.

Camilli in front of Ostberg after midday? Problems with Mads car?
Éric Camilli (9th) said:
“We have actually been happily surprised by our speed this morning. We’re just using this year to learn the stages so I wasn’t expecting to be as close as we are. We’re not pushing, but of course you always push a little bit. We’re not at 100 percent so it’s good to see that the speed is already there”
Mads Østberg (10th) said:
“I was expecting to enjoy this rally, and I am enjoying the stages. It’s fantastic to drive a rally car on roads like this. But at the same time, I’m here to compete, and I want to be more competitive. We’ve been trying, but we made two mistakes on the last two stages [SS4 and SS5]. With two mistakes in two stages, we lost quite a lot of time. The flow of the driving has been nice, so we just need to try and pull everything together this afternoon.”
SS6 is almost done and not dramas yet, not even among top wrc2 drivers.

Rally Poland more forgiving than most rallies, so this I think is the only event that you can have that attack over a whole weekend and actually get to the finish. Would be good for both him and Dmack to get this (even tough I personally off course cheer for a certain Kiwi.) To call any of these guys slow...
we call them slow compared to the competition... we do not compare them to yourself.
I'm not dissapointed of Bergkvist at all. He just has a shitty car (especially for gravel). Look at the times of Gilbert for example. He isn't that slow normally.... Moreover, Emil has little experience in R5 cars and WRC events. What do you expect?

nice pace from Tanak,i was expecting to be fast at Poland, but not so fast! For sure dmacks evolute, and thats only good.Ok not a high temp rally, but its a start.
Malcolm maybe he had ''use'' with wrong manner Ott.
You have people of pure genius like Ogier and Loeb that are fast from the get go...
Camili could maybe be in that category of drivers as well if he continue to develop in the same way.
...and for Bergkvist to count himself to that category he needs to up his pace or he will be another Østberg

why do you expecting faster times? because he was fast with Adam? Would you expect also Griebel and Ingram to be fast with r5 cars against Tidemand Lappi and Sunninen?
Dont take seriously Rallyper big expectations.
Don´t mix things up Dimitri. What do you expect him to do? Be serious thank you.

This is more spot on. My expectation are quite more positive than yours always negative. Pls be at least honest to yourself Dimitri.

Be another Ostberg? Yes that´s good. He has more podiums than all of the youngsters put togehter, so that´s fine to me.

Nice Videos and Pictures alltogether, but a pitty to see that spectators are still on very dangerous places.
Unfortunately probably just a matter of time until something goes horribly wrong.

Thanks, I was reffering to Lappi's comment that Pontus likely hit a bank in a tight junction (which is a also a possible reason for ball joint failure).

Emil is a good talent, and would fare better in another car.
I am usually VERY reserved when it comes to putting good and bad times down to the machinery, but his R5 has a very clear deficit compared to the top cars, and in Poland it is a lot of drag racing.
But if he is going to deliver, he has somethings in his driving he needs to work on - but definetly a talent (and yes, his showing in an R2 is very relevant for his driving in an R5 or even a WRC car, ref Ogier and Loeb.)

different rally.
Just a thought... when Tanak is slow its his tyres... but when he's fastest here could it also be his tyres ?
Have DMack got a great tyre for these roads...
I agree that much he has great excuse in DMacks unknown performance. Kind of a win-win or lose-lose situation :D
To call any of these guys slow...
It's how you compare things ... In average human standards he is blindingly fast and mega driver. In WRC ... he is mediocre IMHO.
His greatest asset is his consistency, his worst ... finding excuses in other things than his driving. If he would be more critical about himself, I actually think he could be a lot better. (like consistently podium better). Sometimes you have to take your pride and sink it in order to develop.

Ostberg: 'Can't push harder, have to find other solutions. Making some changes to the car that we hope will pay off tomorrow! '
Thought they had sorted it in Sardinia... now what ?
Also, arent M-Sport engineers running Tanak's car with DMack.. so whats the difference...

are we ready?
Start of the #DAY3. 124 km and 7 stages without assistance are scheduled. Quite a mechanical challenge. #RallyPoland
Sat 09:59 - Stage info: SS11
Goldap 1, 14.75km. Frequent surface changes make Goldap a tough challenge as the road switches between gravel and asphalt on several occasions. It is narrow, open and fast with plenty of loose gravel and the characteristics are different to the previous day’s tests – still fast, but not as wide. The final kilometre runs alongside buildings.
