"The project TOUR EUROPEAN RALLY – TER is born to merge the power of some important rally events in Europe and create a “Championship” in order to have a better promotion together.
The chosen events must have important characteristics: a very interesting location for tourism, their location must not have any turistic conflict with other rallies of the championship and they must have their excellent touristic and/or historical part.
In all Events of TER, the "TER RALLY VILLAGE" will allow to each event to promote and share its location, tourism packages, food, history etc.
TER Championship and their locations are promoted by a large TV Coverage around the world with main partners like FOX Sport and MotorsTV, by Social Network and the most important web platforms, by newspaper and other important media.

TER – Tour European Rally
follows our glorious European races and visit our amazing locations on our Official website terseries.com"

Some kind of new IRC ?

liposh
20th February 2016, 15:40
funny...I understand every single word, but I don´t get it :D Like WHY? What does it all mean? What is it good for? And especially how much does it cost for organizer to be there? :D

Andre Oliveira
20th February 2016, 15:57
The cost should not be high, f.e. Madeira don't have much €€€ to enter in this adventure

Jarek Z

I think there was a lot of such ideas in th past. None of them succeeded. But good luck anyway.

Andre Oliveira

IRC started with only 4 rounds and did it very well.

Zulu Rally of South Africa 2006
Belgium Ypres Westhoek Rally 2006
Rali Vinho da Madeira 2006
Rallye Sanremo 2006

Madeira in both.

Depending on regulations and classes, Delecours sponsor might be interested for tourism purposes.
Maybe other similar organisations could sponsor teams or drivers as well.

Maybe they have found the right niche in the market, lets see.
Always good with new initiatives!

Today money makes all the difference in rallying and I do not think the organizers of the Vinho Madeira are so wealthy.
There is great doubt in particular who is promotor, what makes a difference.

Hi Sulland,
TER is a Project born 2 years ago and all is based on tourism and location of the events...2016 edition will be the year 0 for this new challenge... the year 0 is important for us to create the "product"... max 6 appointments from TER 2017... the first our target will be in next 3 years... we have already a good TV Coverage and good partners for our work... step by step... TER is born not for substitute in future other championships but just for create a good "challenge", in good locations, with good TV Coverage and big promotion.
In next days we'll update website with regulation and news.
Thanks for your interest.

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but with such an extensive media coverage and the expansion plans for next year it’s hard to avoid a comparison with IRC beginnings and not wonder if TER will became a sort of ERC rival series…

Btw, will TER follow FIA/ERC eligible cars regulations, or will it allow other cars, like WRC’s or not restricted GT’s?

Good luck for TER and congratulations for having Rally Madeira in it. It’s the perfect place for an amazing rally and tourism combination!

For me the great championship should be Extreme Rally Champion with Safaris, 40 stages and cars as R5+, R5 2ltr, GT4x4, etc etc

Something different....

Or even some of the Open Class rally cars (Golf SCRC, Fiesta R5+, Dytko Sport protos).

I would propose an own class for DYTKO prototypes. They are 50 000 euro out of the box. As long as they are safe, the rest of them seems ok, and the Evo X tech is tested and bulletproof!

The Tour European Rally, the new concept of Rally series blending quality events with excellent tourism locations, will expand as scheduled to a six-event championship in 2017. Alongside the confirmed Rali Vinho da Madeira, Skoda Rallye Liezen and Rallye International du Valais, the new entries include Kenotek Ypres Rally and the Tuscan Rewind.

Kenotek Ypres Rally has been a part of the European Rally Championship since the birth of the series. An history-packed event, with the unique atmosphere of its service area set in the heart of the town centre, it will join the Tour European Rally from 2017, when it will also be a round of the British Rally Championship, another premiere.

The Tuscan Rewind is held in late November; the event comprises some worldwide famous gravel stages previously used by Rallye Sanremo, the former Italian round of the World Rally Championship. Start and finish are in Montalcino, home of the world famous Brunello wine.

Both the new events have signed three-year agreements.

The 2017 Tour European Rally will consist of 6 rallies:

Kenotek Ypres Rally (Belgium)

Rali Vinho da Madeira (Portugal)

Skoda Rallye Liezen (Austria)

Rallye International du Valais (Switzerland)

Tuscan Rewind (Italy)

The 6th event will be chosen, and confirmed in the next weeks, amongst three candidates having all a very high level.

I am definitely going to Ypres this year - could be the biggest field of top cars ever. I can see the attraction for many top drivers to use it as a pre WRC asphalt season tune up. Meeke in a DS3 R5 would be nice and as M-Sport are heavily involved with BRC I could easily see them bringing either Ott or Seb for the publicity alone!

I'm guessing that Tsjoen info has been superceded by his deal with Peugeot and Abbring for Ypres?

In other news, it seems possible there will be two sort-of-works Hyundais in Ypres (assuming Neuville is still doing it too):

Indeed 2 factory Hyundai at Ypres, Lim and Neuville.

And what happened to the car?

A drive out to the scenic stages in Kielder got the rally underway, with first blood going to Tom Cave/James Morgan and their Hyundai i20 R5. The car, which competed on an event for the first time at the end of 2016, was making its British Rally Championship debut in the hands of the two Welshman, with James Morgan on the notes.

The duo was also quickest through the second test, before the crews headed to the quaint village of Bellingham for a regroup and autograph signing session, taking some of the world’s most prestigious and exotic rally cars right under the noses of the Kielder locals.

The attention awarded to the new Hyundai did the crew no good though, as on the third stage of the day, Cave and Morgan retired. A suspension breakage was the cause, and the dream of a debut win evaporated. It was a cruel blow to last year’s championship runners-up and the BRC team which had come from Italy to run the car.

After assessing the suspension situation, the team decided not to restart.

EDIT
Cave has just confirmed that following their Pirelli Rally performance he will contest the Scottish Rally in the i20 R5.

Basso and Lim who are basically sent there by Penasse to promote the series (if I get it right).

The problem of Madeira is the ferry cost. Hope they solve it to 2018. This year Cracco and Casier retire their entries. Sadly, Nunes was forced to retire today (broken disc) but the fight for the win is still huge, with Camacho leading just 5.8s ahead of Basso! Silva in P3 is also doing a great job, but he’s a bit far now. Pires (EvoX) is on a class of his own in Gr.N and Soares (208) is now leading 2wd. Unlucky rally for Lefebvre: he returned in Rally2 but retired again during the morning. Still 4 stages to go and an overall win fight to be decided till the end; Madeira always provides epic fights!

Huge congrats to Camacho/Calado and to the Vespas/Delta Team; they’ve waited a long time for this home win and they finally got it! Basso wasn’t able to respond to Camacho strong pace on the last section and finished 2nd. Silva was a brilliant P3, ahead of Campos and Tempestini. Pires won Gr.N and Soares, the local young hope, took 2wd win. Another great Madeira Rally, with a fantastic coverage from RTP Madeira; well done!

Btw, PSA R5’s have finally become reliable cars (better late than never!). Probably this is their most successful year. Good for them, good for the sport!

There's a video on YT that appears to show the aftermath of an accident after the flying finish of one of the stages, hope everyone was ok as they appear to be having to re-assemble the officials gazebo

I know the Belgian Wagemans went off after the FF (car with hamburger livery). Everyone was ok. Can you link the images?

So is anyone surprised at how uncompetitive Lefebvre was? Yes I know he had a gearbox issue, but every stage he did complete he seemed to be a bit off the pace? And other WRC drivers who have competed in local events are generally consistently at least on the podium?

Mirek
7th August 2017, 07:57
As I wrote in the thread about Lukyanuk - no, that's not true. I used our ERC/IRC Barum rally as an example because I know it best - but there alone Lappi, Neuville, Mikkelsen, Novikov, Tänak, Breen or Abbring have never achieved podium even though some started more than once there. You can take Ypres where for example Grönholm or Kankkunen failed etc. Every event requires some experience and being a very good driver isn't always enough to beat the lack of it.

Ok what about the one I saw? Hopefully it was just a storm in a tea cup!

Neto was just looking for a new garden tent...no one got really hurt; mostly a scary moment for the officials.

Best example I can think of a driver winning a specialist event at their first attempt was Snijers on the 88 Manx in the M3 other than that its quite a rare occurrence.

In nowadays strict 2 pass recce it's harder to be immediately fast.

Btw, here's a nice clip using RTP Madeira footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF-IPFgqm5I

Yesterdays stages were a bit strange, 3 sss and 2 short stages with many junctions, chicanes, bicyclepath...
Today there are proper stages with oppenberg, öblarn and lassing, specially the 19km oppenberg is very nice, reminds me a lot to twisty italian mountain roads https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OfORCjenbIw ...I think Basso will gain some time today, at least to Casier or Dinkel.

I was there to spectate this year. And I must say that I was quite disappointed. With going out of ERC/IRC, they have reduced the itinerary a lot. I know that they must have shorter distance of kms, but they have "killed" the most beautiful stages like Crans-Montana, Bruson or Verbier. Also stage with famous jump was changed. Instead of it they did 3 runs through same road with three different length of stages...

Also I was quite disappointed by the level of drivers. From foreign drivers on good level were only Abbring, Basso, Casier and Orsak. And of course Dumas with Porsche. From local drivers O.Burri, Carron and for me surprisingly fast Toedli. But from my older visits of this rally I have missed some good local drivers like Hirschi, Perroud, Gonon. Also level of 2WD was quite disappointment for me (especially to watch)...

Not the big fight we were waiting for, still Madeira was a nice rally to follow. Local champ Camacho (Fabia) dominated since the first proper SS. Nunes (DS3) was unable to match Camacho pace and came 2nd. Fontes (C3) was P3, struggling to find a good setup with the new car. Lots of retirements, including Basso on the i20 (transmission). Btw, congrats to RTP Madeira for the TV coverage.

TER has failed as a rally series but somehow it helps promoting the events. Probably that’s why Ypres, Madeira and Valais organizers are still TER partners.

Btw, it’s a pity the national European rally thread of the forum doesn’t work properly. Is there a chance to have it fixed? If not, why can’t we make a national rally news topic on this (ERC) thread?

DISA the Canary Islands fuel company paid Auriol and Kankkunen to drive in Citroen Xsaras and C4s a few years back on a couple of El Corte Ingles outings and tobacco money always used to attract drivers to one off rides pretty much anywhere so this is just a further example of that. When the Lanzarote organisers were trying to get their gravel event back into the SCER last year after the earlier debacle they paid for Henning Solberg and Bernado Sousa to do the rally in Sports&You C3 Rally2s so good on the Azores team for trying to keep their rally on the radar.
