Sun 11:42 - SS17: Paddon
Third quickest and 19.8sec down on Ogier. He still leads - but by just 2.6sec from Seb! He's gutted and almost lost for words. "A very, very rough stage. Trying to find the balance between not breaking the car... ....very hard to gauge the speed. Not much more to say."

A terrific fourth-quickest time from the local hero who is now just 6.7sec behind Neuville in sixth. Can he catch him in El Condor? "I will see. It's a stage I know well and I feel very comfortable with this car."

Probably taking care of his car after previous stage glitches.

Yip, just misjudged the balance between speed and looking after the car from what he said after the stage. Experience must make a big difference with those judgements.

Ogier must have been risking car damage a lot more to push that hard on such a rough stage.

Its quite true :)
We have been working very hard together since just after Sweden, but I am not going to steal his thunder, he is an extremly commited and highly intelligent individual, and this have moved on A LOT faster that I tought possible.
Mexico was introduction, Otago we worked on a number of things, and this is the first rally we wanted to push a little. We focused VERY hard on El Condor, and i mean VERY hard.
But I must say, his driving on El Condor just blew my mind, he is just incredible! :)
And hopefully I will enjoy working with him a lot in the future.
But I must say, a BIG, BIG thanks to Olav Bodilsen who spent over 4 years tutoring me in this. I dont even know half of what he does, so thanks Olav :)

Maybe, but this win is much, much, more impressive, the final stage will leave Ogier with something to think over for a while. Delighted for Paddon, but what next for Neuville though? And Latvala, both are wasteing seats as much as Camilli is.

And well done Mr Lundefaret too, I think there'll be a few of us reading your posts with more respect now!

The first part of this rally started out a bit boring but the 2nd part was quite interesting. Paddon winning is the cherry on top of the cake. I have to say his drive on the last stage was one of the most amazing I have seen. Ogier looked like he was going 98%, but Paddon was at 105%!

As I was watching and listening to his pace notes I noticed he had many "action" words and descriptions of the line to take and road characteristics. It made me think of Lundefaret's posts. And then I come and read the forum and see maybe it's no coincidence.

In any case I do hope he continues at the highest level and we have many good fights in the future, however I think over a whole rally he is still behind Ogier.

Is there a reason why you guys do not use proper camera angles for your footage ? like for example these

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia_1vVDwmkg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0MANBDX4Ag
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_czCfio9PY

you know, camera angles that actually give you a true sense of speed and not that retarded stuff you use where you see half a bonnet and the camera points to the left ??

Are you doing it because you are stupid like that and this is the best you can think of ?? or you just do not care about the product ?

Can you imagine (probably not) the exposure you could get for example after todays rally and Paddons drive on the power stage if you had 4-5 cameras on his car (full HD not that 480p crap you have) from some interesting incar and outside angles ?

Can you please try and do your job ?

Best regards.

We have been working very hard together since just after Sweden, but I am not going to steal his thunder, he is an extremly commited and highly intelligent individual, and this have moved on A LOT faster that I tought possible.

But I must say, his driving on El Condor just blew my mind, he is just incredible! :)

Paddon will be world champion some time, he´s a bit like Michael Schuhmacher in F1 was, he doesn´t avoid arguments with other drivers, sometimes he even provokes them (This time Ogier, also with Neuville some time ago). That´s winning genes.

Also amazed with the i20 reliability. They’ve managed to improve a lot and after winning in the most though WRC rally, the car is now ready to win in any (gravel) event. It’s great to see that this season won’t be a walk in the park for VW’s guys and, hopefully, in Portugal Meeke will also be in the fight.

Well done to Paddon and Kennard. Great effort by Hyundai with the ability to give Hayden a winning car.

There will be some serious talent coming out of NZ in the next few years with Paddons efforts in the WRC giving the sport even more momentum.

There seems to be more younger competitors in NZ than I have seen elsewhere in the world, maybe it's the chance to buy cheap gray imports 4wd's such as GC8 Subaru's and EVO 6's and chuck a cage in it and go rallying. Also having the best roads in the rally world helps as well.

http://www.rtbf.be/sport/moteurs/rallye/wrc/detail_le-gros-coup-de-gueule-de-sebastien-ogier-et-julien-ingrassia?id=9278213

It's in french language unfortunately.

I just report this sentence from Ingrassia.
"On the second pass in the stage, the 25 cars of the national rally, Ford Ka, small "yoghurt pots" have brought the loose gravel, stones, our "lines" because they do not have all the same path as the WRC. The first on the road must redo these lines then. Later, for the following on the road, it's immediately a fine line. "

Now I fully understand Paddon.
These guys are so unrespectful. Describing other competitors as drivers of "yoghurt pots", who maybe have worked a whole year to fullfill the dream to drive in the WRC round it's just stupid.

I hope we will get rid of them both as soon as possible.

Now the first in the road is too much disadvantaged and has no chance to win, even if he is in another level like Ogier. And that's not good because the best has to win. The same goes for when he is advantaged but it is on much less rallies. He has a point and I don't deny it.

About Ogier as person instead, the discussion is different because is ok if you don't agree with regs but if you become a douchebag and disrespectful guy, if you only talk about your disadvantage every time in any occasion, if you describe other rally cars as a yoghurt pots, you don't know what rally is about and you just are a little man who nobody wants to have something with.
I repeat, the sooner he goes away the better. Loeb was winning all the time but I would never wished him to leave WRC.

The normal shitty cam is still an option though, bumper cam is just an extra.

I like bumper cams, as any other non-standard view, but this doesn't include pov cams they present, this isn't (P)oint(O)f(V)iew, they should call it something else (spider view on the glass corner for example).

In non-standard view I mean all weird cams (damper cam, back cam showing the dust car generates), but these should be only occasionally. POV cam should be between driver and co-driver seats, the best if the two side windows are visible as well.

With the camera stuff as well I think there's an argument that image stabilization is taking the drama out of the videos.

My biggest issue isn't always the camera angles themselves, it's just the fact that they don't reflect the speed (or the violence) of a rally car.

https://youtu.be/6OBkbLYs89I?t=8m56s - Look how fast Meeke appears to be going here, simply captured on a two-year old GoPro.

Its all about the angle... even the chinless vagabond dog Block looks fast with the proper angle.

Hehe :)
In New Zealand they both have a space frame car and the new AP4 regulation, and I like both concepts. And I actually think AP4 should be made "official" by FIA being the standard for nationally homologating 4WD veichles.
But thats a bit off topic :)

If not AP4 but a R4-kit will probably be next year but let’s continue in this (http://www.motorsportforums.com/showthread.php?36011-AP4-Rally-Car) thread.

About road position issue I do agree with you. 2014 regs were the best scenario imho.

Yep, ’14 rules made more sense, with champ standings counting only for first day and second/third with reversed order from previous day classification. We all know that current rules were an easy way to undermine Ogier dominance. That's why he complains.

But it’s fair to say that even with a proper starting order in Argentina, Ogier wouldn’t be much faster than Latvala (the Finn has showed many times that he’s as fast as his team mate, but lacks the French consistency) and Paddon could beat him anyway. The Kiwi amazing determination was the key factor to win this one.

Btw, the i20 improvement was also crucial. In Sweden Paddon proved the car was fast, but Hyundai’s guys made a great job making it reliable, especially after Mexico troubles. After all, 2016 is becoming a fantastic WRC year.

The over-the-hood view isn't so bad; that's what was being shown on the live broadcast and it was pretty good at showing how hair-raising the stage was.
