If you research the 2014 and 2015 editions you will find the answer. For Monte it isn't complicated. Any road that isn't closed to traffic (other than the stage route) can be used for access, provided it is passable in your vehicle. Parking is on the road side and unless you are very early in position for a popular section you may have to walk several km. Between stages traffic is not a probem but the schedule can make timing too tight to stage-hop. Use Googe Earth and streetview to check the viability of a route you have in mind. In 2014 we did a recce after shakedown in order to have confidence we would be ok with the roads we had chosen.

The best tip I could give you is book (much) earlier, but you can't turn back time now. I book the accommodation for my WRC trips sometimes over half a year in advance, to ensure a good location/price. If you want something cheap and central to the stages I think you are too late (5 months too late that is). The one time I went to Monte Carlo (2014) we stayed in Ancelle, in "Hotel les Autanes", we also decided to go only in december and booked quite late. You may have a chance there as the hotel isn't on booking.com. Other than that I'd recommend you to search for "Chambres d'hotes"/"bed and breakfast" on Google. The best way to find something now is by searching for things that aren't found on booking.com.

Also if you speak French it could be interesting to repeat your question on http://forum-rallye.com/ , maybe someone can help you there.

Clearly the combination of David Evans/Autosport/MN are less sure what Kubica is driving now on the Monte. They've taken him out of the list of confirmed M-Sport Fiestas, listing only Ostberg, Camilli, Tanak, Bertelli, Bouffier and Evans (R5).

Interesting also that Lappi is entered, with the works Team absent from Monte.
My guess is that the car is from BRR, as they are entered with Kremer and outside the works squad probably the No. 1 customer Team.

Is this something or nothing - Bouffier down as a registered M-Sport 'Team' car. Does that mean that they've committed to 7 rallies then with that extra car? Is that rule still in place? Looks likely we'll see Elfyn in that car on some events if so.

Kubica's situations looks really weird
it looks like people involved in RK WRT are doing something else (guys from M-Sport, even his coordinator Rafal Cebula)

I thnik Monte Carlo may be single event for Kubica

Bouffier under M Sport banner probably doesn´t mean something, we already had this in the past.

Sure Bouffier receives servicing from M-Sport and has been entered by them a few times. But as far as I can see he's never scored points for them? Because that Monte entry has a 'T' next to it - as in M-Sport have also registered as a WRC Team, in addition to being a manufacturer.

I wonder whether VW will pay for Lappi to do all the events in a Fabia R5 in preparation for 2016?

As somebody else mentioned I suspect Monte is with BRR, as Hänninen's WRC starts were with them when he was a works Skoda driver.

I wonder whether VW will pay for Lappi to do all the events in a Fabia R5 in preparation for 2016?

If he turns up on the Mexico entry list then I think that we can possibly make that assumption. For sure if he's going to be in a top WRC car in 2017 he has a lot of gaps to fill in his knowledge.

He didn't get far at all on the only other time he did the Monte. He's never been to Sweden. So a big year to learn, as well as having the pressure of being the WRC2 favourite (again).

I don't think this will happen. First because Kubica has his own sponsors, second because BRC is a gas engine sponsor and the car goes with fuel. I think there wil be some BRC stick somewhere but he will not use the classic BRC livery.

Last year i was at it and Breen was absolutely brutal - way down in speed ....but yet he finished 2nd in WRC 2 as he others in front fell off -some result !!! what about the first year Ogier won??? - sure the rest fell off in front of him aswell - so anything can happen

We know that this is the best level to rally in the world. We just need to drive up to see where we are, and build on these foundations."

Not surprising Camilli just wants to reach the finish in his WRC debut - http://www.autohebdo.fr/rallye/wrc/article-26-1-36995/180116-wrc-objectifs-mesur%C3%A9s-pour-eric-camilli

Ogier's first victory was a classic example of winning by luck or a bad luck of others. He wasn't fastest at all. Actually he won only one stage. He even had two offs but others had even more problems.

He was 1:32 down to Hänninen when he had puncture. Third day started with an overnight snowstorm. First drivers were making a way through a deep snow for others and some crashed (I was on that stage). Accidentally it was a stage where Ogier was born and he won it. He got to first place. In the rest of the rally he was able to keep the position despite Sarrazin being another 1,5 minutes faster in the rest of the event (Sarrazin lost 4 minutes with an off on another place where we were).

And don't forget Hanninen, who was by far the fastest in 2011; but 1 bad tyre choice on the 2nd day cost him the event - and conversely Bouffier made the right choice and won.

You are right of course, there is no such thing as luck in winning Monte Carlo but a matter of Intelligence from all team members : set up, tires, weather, pace notes, throttle, consistency.
What happened to Bouffier, Hirvonen, Grönholm, Ogier was a better odds management.

the top teams are not gambling, so between them there's never a real lottery. they just take tires for the most likely situation.
but some driver further behind might take a risk and gamble on changing weather, and if his gamble works out, he can win a huge amount of time.

The problem with Monte is to say what is gamble and what is the most likely situation? In 2011 only two top drivers took studs for the infamous snowfall and one of them thanks to that won the rally without winning a single stage (Bouffier). Did he gamble or did all the others? Who decides? :)

Hi there,

I have been too busy again. I am running one big GIS project related to inundation/flooding areas around rivers and lakes, and I have to finish it soon. But I took some time yesterday to take a look on weather.

There should be snowfall tonight on many stages of the rally and most probably it will be the last before and during the rally.

Shakedow should be with some clouds, +2..+4 degrees and it is likely that there is no snow left by that time, maybe some icy patches.

SS1 and 2 should both have a few minus degrees SS2 should have at least 3-4 degrees below zero. It will be warm during the day (+3..+4), so, black ice is real possibility and snow dragged on the road by first cars is also possibility.

Fridady:
Morning stages will be probably almost key stages. Some snow is expected on those stages on Wednesday (so, after recce) and I do not expect the temperature to rise much above zero there, so it will be tricky. Ss3, 5, 6 and 8 should be all between -1.. and -5 degrees. Only the longest stage SS 4 and 7 is in lower elevation and should be mostly on plus side on both runs.

Saturday:

Morning, longest stage (SS9) should run between -2..-4 degrees, a bit cloudy. SS10 also -3.. -5 degrees, a bit cloudy
Ss11 is in the middle of the day, a bit cloudy and temperature between +2..+4, Ss12, cloudy and 0..+2 degrees
SS13 It should be + degrees on that stage for most of the time, looks like heat wave is arriving :)

I do not expect any snow during the whole week on saturday stages, so, its should be as it is with some additional melting during the days but plenty of roadisde snow and ice on the road should not dissapear.

Sunday:
It will be hot day, no snow. Even on Turini I expect up to +5 degrees, so, maybe even some running water on the stages because of melting snow;)
On the last stage the temperatiure might rise up to +10 degrees:)

In overall, I do not expect any major snofall, but this is mountains;) Another factor is fog. It is expected to be very calm weather, so fog is real possibility and fog with minus degrees is very slippy ;) So, lest see:)

the second one has white colour rims at the back... they will definitely not run the car with the 2 colour ones for whole rallies.

Hyunday new livery looks horrible. In press release shots it was OK, but that ugly as he'll.

Hyundai should have stayed away from the black. It messes up the picture in my opinion.

How does road order work on this event again?

Although Shakedown times are usually not a great indicator, I don't remember seeing such a dramatic drop off of times as this between first and third/fourth runs for people, it dies demonstrate the importance of road order.

If Ogier is guaranteed to be at the front for two days, it shows even more than usual what a farce the 'two day' rule is.

Mud was the major talking point of the shakedown session, during which the dry Tarmac quickly turned wet and slippery as cars dragged snow and slush from the verges.

One of the first to tackle the stage, Meeke conceded that his start position had been an advantage for his winning run.

"We were second or third in, and for sure a lot of mud was pulled out and the road got slower and slower," he told wrc.com. "Okay, in that sense it isn't a very representative stage, but I'm still happy because my second pass was quickest too - so even when the road was muddy the time was still good.

"The most important thing is that the feeling was good. It's been too long since Rally GB and it's nice to get into the car against the clock again - to put the lids on and do a proper WRC shakedown. It's a confidence booster - and this rally is all about confidence."

Mads Østberg was ninth-fastest on his first rally back in M-Sport's Ford Fiesta RS and agreed with Meeke. "They were difficult conditions for sure. We started late for our first run and by then it was full mud. It was tricky, but good to do some runs to get used to the car," he said.

With the temperature nudging 4°C, drivers are bracing themselves for more mud as the ice and snow seen on the pre-event recce begins to thaw.

"On the recce this road was basically clear with snow banks on either side but today it turned out to be a mud race," explained Volkswagen's Jari-Matti Latvala. "From our position a long way down the start order we had no chance. This was quite extreme though - I don't expect we'll see anything quite this bad in the rally."

The first tyre choice could be crucial because not only will it have to cover around 100 competitive kilometres but choices will need to be made some four hours ahead of SS2! The conditions could well evolve between the moment the cars leave service at 6pm and Barles-Seyne which starts at 10:11pm…

Where does the 100 competitive kilometres come from? Thursday stages are only 40-something kilometres and then there is service on Friday morning before next stages.

But there is indeed some time between tyre fitting and SS2. But the weather seems quite stable.

We had 1 hour delay before we had our first run in shakedown. By then the road was so muddy! On the third run we had about the same conditions as the other cars and managed to set a good time.
30 seconds before the first run there was a hectic period in the car, both me and Ola were looking for buttons, where was the button for stage mode??! Guess the Fiesta was pushing our buttons haha! The shakedown has finished, and frankly we are not happy with our times and the feeling of the car. There was no point to try and improve, since the condition of the road was getting worse by the minute. We will do some changes to the setup of the car and hope things will be better tomorrow.
In any case, tomorrow is a new day and we plan to enjoy every second of the ceremonial start at the Casino Square!

The new car is all strange. As an example, the rear suspension is too high for asphalt...do not understand why it is so. But what will count is the speed ...

Starting order to first leg - http://rally-base.com/2016/rallye-monte-carlo-2016/start-list/?startTimeTypeId=628

Will a gap of 2min be big enough between Enrico Brazzoli in the Peugeot R2 and Felice Re in the DS3 WRC??

I have doubts as well. Re is not the fastest driver but the 36k or 50k stages are the ones when it can happen.

At aroun 45 sec Paddon drives like maniac
It is very clear that road gets bad very quickly. plenty of snow on the roadside and it will be all on the road after frist car. Luckily, some stages are without possibility to cut :) I am looking the videos and is it me or is new livery for DS3 WRC making this car look like 307 WRC? from the front?

Interesting what is going to happen today. It is expected to be some plus degrees during the day and it will fall below zero before the first stage, so everything starts to freeze again:)

Michelin: The Rallye Monte Carlo tyre allocation for WRC drivers is 20 x softs, 24 x super-softs, 12 x non-studded snow tyres and 12 x studded tyres.
Let the gamble begin.

Anybody have info about spy-crew? I heard about Protasov for Kubica

I think this photo confirm my info about Protasov
PG Andersson and Thorstein Eriksen for Mads Østberg.

To close/open "internal" spring - harder and softer settings
