Are gravel stages in the same place as last year? If so, they should extend the gap between cars at 4 minutes but I don't know if it is possible

A rainy edition certainly would make it an even more interesting edition of the rally. It's great to see that it's once again a mixed surface event. :)

Can't wait for October 22nd!

Managed to get a last-minute trip sorted so I'm really excited for this. My first visit to Spain, and then Wales GB to round out the year.

Does anyone know if they plan to do the historic cars again? I'm also assuming there will be an autograph session in Barca that just hasn't been announced yet.

Yes, it will be historic cars, between the loops on the tarmac leg´s.

And sure it will be autograph session on the Montjuic Mountain.

Disappointed by the number of WRC cars, I didn't realise Abbring wasn't there and I guess Block is completely done with WRC, but all the best contenders of WRC2 are there and that has potential to be a great fight. Three works Skodas, Breen, etc.

Well, first of all I would like to apologize all of you for my morning mystification. Skoda surprised me in good way.

Second: Does it mean Al Attiyah and all 3 Skoda guys will score points in WRC2? Nobody is skipping the registration to this round to score points in Wales instead of Spain?

Third: Do you think Pontus somehow canceled his registration from winter? He has registered himself into WRC2 before Swedish rally. Is it possible to cancel it after one round and get your money back? ...I am confused why there are 3 "SKODA Motorsport (I and II)" cars if they can register Pontus as privateer. (You know what I mean) and Skoda can pay the start directly to Pontus.

All those guys must be registered for WRC2 as otherwise they would be in the bottom half of the entry list. I highly doubt Tidemand would be able to cancel after Sweden. If he'd done that he'd only have six scoring rounds not the ideal seven. It wouldn't make sense to do that? Maybe it is just to reward Kopecky and also to perhaps try to do some team orders?

Or maybe they want WRC 2 decided for Lappi either way before Wales so they can put him in a fourth Polo ;)

Mirek
6th October 2015, 14:10
Neither Tidemand nor Kopecký were planned for full WRC2. Both had only selected rounds while Lappi was the only one planned for whole championship.

liposh
6th October 2015, 14:16
Simmi: I agree with you. You know what I meant. Registration of brand new team "Skoda motorsport II" costs money. Why don´t they use 2x "Skoda Motorsport I" +1 x"Pontus Tidemand". Do you think it is because of they are so proud they want the name "Skoda motorsport" on the car? I would prefer to have the money in my pocket.

Simmi
6th October 2015, 14:17
Neither Tidemand nor Kopecký were planned for full WRC2. Both had only selected rounds while Lappi was the only one planned for whole championship.

Sure but I doubt that Skoda planned at the start of the year to enter 3 cars in Spain. Clearly something changed from the original plan.

Tidemand drove his way into the chance of a WRC2 title so it's not a surprise they will give him 6-7 rounds. Maybe they wanted to reward Kopecky but Lappi was more confident about Spain than GB? Not that he's done either before.

dodge33cymru
6th October 2015, 14:25
Edit: sorry, I see your point. Probably, like Simmi says, it's an extra entry for Kopecky. Entry fee will be small fish for Skoda, assuming they even make them pay it.

Nelly
6th October 2015, 14:35
Try and get as many cars between Lappi and Nasser! Nasser was very strong on the gravel last year but had an RRC so time will tell!
Really nice entry, good quality through out the field, can't wait to go now!

Mirek
6th October 2015, 14:37
I believe that the original plan was to take the portion of events for Lappi and split it between Tidemand and Kopecký whose main targets were elsewhere (and which they both achieved). What came between was most likely result of lobbying from Even Rally.

Simmi
6th October 2015, 15:41
All in all it's a nice list.

Every championship in action barring R-GT. 15 WRC is about what you'd expect. Four DS3 WRC for the first time since Monte I think. As confusing as we've found it the 3x works Skodas is cool.

Just missing that Loeb (or even a Block) to give it that bit of x-factor but can't complain.

The category is 'RC2', eligibility is 'WRC2'. This Germany entry list is a bit clearer from that point of view. Note guys like Protasov/Bouffier on there - http://www.adac-rallye-deutschland.de/docs/wrc/2015/static/179/WRC_Germany2015_Entrylist_Update_2015_08_16.pdf

Err...hello? Is there anybody out there?

dodge33cymru
13th October 2015, 10:19
Ha, yeah, sorry, I'm going exploring for the first time too. The first day (Thursday) there's a short party-style stage in Barcelona centre, not great viewing I don't expect but an interesting atmosphere.

You can see multiple passes of the top cars on Thursday morning in the Shakedown practice stage. It's a very short stage but visibility is good and the top drivers pass through it multiple times.

Friday I'm trying to work out if it's possible to do two stages. If not, the most famous of them is Terra Alta, but I don't know a huge amount about it. The whole day is a gravel event, so make sure you have access to a shower at the end of the day as it will be dusty.

Saturday and Sunday are on tarmac. Again, not sure if it's possible to see multiple stages, but I'd recommend staying on one stage for the day as, in between the main field passes, there's a demonstration of historics which will sound amazing.

The last stage of Saturday is another short spectator stage, but it's supposedly a great way to round out that day, but it might be busy.

There's a great guide on the official event site which gives you directions to good spectator points on each stage.

Any other questions, give me a shout.

Mintexmemory
13th October 2015, 21:43
2 stages can be done morning and afternoon if you don't wander too far from your car on arrival at Terra Alta and only watch the WRC. on the 1st stage.

Block always announces his motorsport programme at the start of each year so there should be no surprise he's not in Catalunya. With the strong re-emergence of rallycross that is where he has put most of his focus. He's only entered four rallies in each of the last two seasons.

Surprising Giordano did so well in 4WD machinery! Almost matched Lvebvefebreve (or however you spell it) in WRC machinery which really isn't impressive by him at all. I thought for a long while that people was giving him a hard time but I am starting to doubt him also... could it be the influence of Prevot maybe? Ever since he came into the picture, Levefebrevebve is going slower? Maybe Prevot is tired of riding alongside Duval types (ie. win it or bin it types) and is therefor keeping his mental hand on the mental handbrake throughout the stages?

Lappi is fast on all surfaces but his only problem is he can´t handle the pressure with ease. Even today he is in some kind of spasm despite having Athos (Tidemand) and Porthos (Kopecky) to help him :D He saw Tidemand crashed twice during Corsica and wanted to finish without problems...so that is why he wasn´t able to beat Maurin BTW. A few photos from today, we chose some fast places. One place (which you can see on photos of Evans and Paddon below) was really impressive, some very fast long corner with two small jumps in it (one in the middle of the corner and another in the exit). It was interesting to see completely different lines/styles that were +- just as quick, very hard to judge. It was clear that the Polo's take the bumps/jumps much better in situations like this. Looking forward to the asphalt stages, we did some recce on them, and my respect for these stages only grew. They must be difficult to make pacenotes, as almost every corner is followed directly by another and it's not easy to find the best line.

I had lost hope for Kubica as his speed was dwindling, but the last two events he has proved me wrong. Seems his consistency is better as well, shame the machinery is letting him down now. Kinda like germany last year!
Also shame his future is uncertain. He could have done well, I think, if a manufacturer had actually spent some time and effort on him... but they want results yesterday so.

Really happy about Tidemand... c'mon Tänak and Østberg!

So what's the point in following rally with no excitement ? The first morning is usually the only part worth talking about !

There isn't much point, it's all a bit predictable.

Nice to see Evans is proving that as I said, his Corsica result was a fluke based on one decent stage time. He's slow...again. Time for Malcolm to find another driver.

He hit a bank, because his Pirelli went off the rim, just before that corner.

There is a problem with gravel Pirelli tyres, there's no doubt about it. From Pirelli drivers, only Kubica is forcing them to the limit, a them the problems come. They've been trying to use different glue (i don't know is that proper word in English) but it did not work.

yeah, broken gearbox and a lot of punctures from those pirelli are his mistakes obviously :o
perhaps the gearbox is not his fault, although i could image that it would last longer if he wouldn't hit stuff from time to time.

punctures are almost always the drivers fault. hitting banks, cutting wrong, driving over stones in the line ... 99 out of a 100 cases there's a reason that can be traced back tot the driver.
we have al seen his driving style, it really is not the pirellis fault.

He is closer at ss13, 8,6 behind the stagewinner, and 1,1 behind his teammate. Thats his level at tarmac, is he closer its a sensation :)
I think the fiesta suits him better, its something with the ds3 he don't get the grip on.

He has crashed at least once in every asphalt event this year except Corsica. In WRC2 everything was prepared by the team to make his way for the title as easy as possible, for example by placing Tidemand and Kopecký into the support role not allowed enough events to win the title. Now it might end by a farce when the only factory team might not win as it should. Lappi did exactly same job like last year in APRC. He didn't manage to win even such a crappy championship where neither Tidemand nor Kopecký failed. Even in ERC Lappi nearly lost with Wiegand who was also considered his support.

Lappi definitely has the speed but he didn't manage to be consistent in three consecutive championships which all were considered kind of a walk in the park for him prior the season. I hope the team finally wakes up and starts to use two full-time crews to avoid such a shame again.
