New rally and new-old troubles for RK. Firstly, on morning shakedown, gearbox failure (oli leak and hole of ping pong ball size, they are not sure whether it was internal or external hit) plus deflected (broken) rim which caused tyre went off the rim on the last passage. Than they changed broken gearbox with other not set up properly for this rally. And at the end, after ceremonial start in service, mechanics are working on water pump
And the rally has just started...

Okey, then I dont understand that at all. Abbring is not all bad but he will never be a driver that fight for podiums. Sorry to say that for those who are his fans.

There is other drivers that would be so much faster. Just look at Lappi, Tidemand, Bergkvist, Breen and so on... But I know that there is some contract issues and so on...

But Abbring is not a clever choise, have never understand why he was picked in the first place.

He was faster than Lappi and Breen in ERC last year. I do see something in him, he was spectacular in ERC last year and he won WRC2 in France without any problems (against Tidemand). Bergkvist is way too soon to say anything about.

He has been working with Hyundai since 2013, but now it's the first time 'visible' for the outside world. I really don't see many other alternatives.

But well it looks like there are mechanical problems this time so he's probably not to blame.

EDIT: Now confirmed: Car #10 update: @KevinAbbring stopped on SS3 after temperature warning light came on; unable to restart. #WRC #HyundaiWRC

Abbring has trashed Lappi and Breen in every rally where he started last year in ERC. He didn't win all those events only due to incredible unreliability of his Peugeot. He retired five or six times while leading.

I don't understand why You mention Bergkvist. The choice was done before 2015 not at the end of 2015 season. Bergkvist one year a go was completely unproven and he stays unproven with 4WD as he did only one rally with it. He may be the choice in the future but he needs a lot more experience. Definitely not a driver for WRC factory team in this moment.

Tidemand was slower than Lappi in every single rally he did this year except Spain. He was more reliable but he didn't really shine in WRC2 either as his average point/start score was worse than of Al Attiyah and especially Kopecký.

Astro83
13th November 2015, 12:48
I dont say anything about this event. Mechanical is not his fault ofc. And to go off road sometimes happends. Thats rally. But he is not a bad driver but I anyway think that he not has the skills to be fighting in the WRC-class for podiums as Paddon can and will.

Today, Lappi should be in the middle group easy with a factory wrc-car. He gets faster for every event. Tidemand was leading Rally Sweden, and was in the top overall in a private Fiesta until the engine give away for some years ago. (His home event ofc) He does almost "0" misstakes and stays on the road overall and get good points.

This year, he has proved that he is really fast on every surface, even when he drive with no risks. And he is a smart driver.

Bergkvist is young, but its now he would benefit of a chance to drive for a manufacture. And he will be a top driver if he gets the help. First year on tarmac, and he win with style. He has never driven on that surface before. First time in a 4WD, you seen the result.

much off topic... :D

But anyway, Abbring has not done many events so okey, we will see if it will improve.

The more drivers in WRC, the more interesting it gets so ;)

This Fiesta is rubbish. Like he said at todays regroup they can not drive at least 100km without issues with car or tyres. And he says that he isn't pushing at all in GB...

Yeah, such technical problems like bushes, branches and grass in the radiator happens to him frequently.. bad car indeed :-P

I'm not saying about troubles in SS6, i'm saying genarally about whole season. Of course he made mistakes, but not more then e.g. Thierry who is just driving and not thinking about logistics, booking hotels and managing or completing his team after breakout with italian A-Style. A lot of issues has been strange this year, and it was clearly not the driver fault.

Neuville scored 90, so he must be 10 times better than Kubica. Good luck to Thierry next year because if he keeps driving like he has been in last months he will also need to change the sport.

RK would scored much more points, without technical issues which you probably don't know if you are just looking at stats. Or just don't want to know them. What i ment it was mistakes rate in which Thierry is in the leading group this year. And yes he has whole big manufacture around him and RK has only a few people. Thats the difference in privateer and factory driver.

The goal is different though... Neuville aims at the top and i doubt if he is worthy to be in a manufacturer WRC.

Kubica just wants to please his countrymen and his yes men and i must say he manages that pretty well given the support from his dogs, other than that he is good for inferior competition and cars like the ERC or some vilage events.

his driveshaft broke in sweden and his transmission in finland.

if you smash 3 wheels in a rally, you can't be surprised that your gearbox breaks. even if he drove a factory volkswagen he would probably make it break somehow.

Latvala about his mistake

“It was a really stupid thing,” Latvala told the official WRC site. “I changed the front-right tyre before the [second] stage and it looks like I didn't get enough heat in it because on the first junction it was locking up. Then on the second it locked again straight away on braking, the engine stalled and after that I couldn't steer the car and I went straight into the ditch.

Abbring, who was competing in his in fourth event of the season with the team, was forced to stop just two kilometres from the finish of SS3 after a leak into the water system. The issue caused “irreparable damage”.

“That was definitely not how we wanted our final rally of the season to go. We got off to a cautious start in the opening stage the grip was higher than we expected. We increased the pace in the second stage and I had a better feeling,” said Abbring, who finished SS2 in 13th overall.

“We knew we wouldn't be at the same level as the front-runners because our pace notes are completely new, but we were hoping to show a steady improvement,” he added.

“The final stage of the morning then started off well but towards the end we had to stop the car because of a leak into the water system, which made the temperatures increase. We tried to keep going but it wasn't possible. Unfortunately, the damage to the car was also too great for us to be able to carry on tomorrow.

“It's a disappointing end to the season but I feel that I have learned a huge amount in our WRC programme with Hyundai Motorsport and this will provide a very strong platform for the future. Thanks to the team for the opportunity.”

Citroen gets more points so Citroen will be second.

SAT 13:48 - SS12: PADDON AND PROKOP
The pair have collided on the road section after SS12. Each went the wrong way after the stage. After Paddon turned back they met each other at a hairpin and connected head-on. Paddon's car has frontal damage but he's off to SS13. No news yet on Prokop's car.

From his words seems he will not be in Hyundai team next year...any info about ? imho he is a very good driver, he demostrated last year vs Lappi he was faster but the 208t16 was weak in terms of reliability

Hyundai didn´t seem to love him all year long. And he went to WRC much to early, after just half a season of ERC. He should go back there or to WRC2 and win this series.

I rather believe Robert's comments than some users here. In the past he was always saying what he ment, not some PR shit. So I'll stay like this.
When he made mistakes, I admit it. Yesterdays excurtion was 100% his fault and he has a tone of luck to be able to continue rally.

Any link for RallyFest TV? I was watching it for a couple of hours after SS13 on WRC+, then it buffered and when I tried to refresh the page the link had gone. It must be available somewhere? It's not the one from the service park with the camera just on cars, but the one with Steve Ryder.

The Kiwi explains more about his crash with Prokop. "We took a wrong turn after SS12 and went maybe 300 metres before we turned around. On the way back we collided with Martin who had made the same mistake. These things happen. We're lucky that for us it's just cosmetic damage. Unfortunately for Martin, he had to park up. We'll make the repairs now and hope for a better run. I love the dark and I'm looking forward to it."

Pretty clever of Ogier to stop there, actually. He would have lost a few seconds going by normally and instead gets 31 back.
