OK, now the cars are starting to look a lot better. It still has the snout, but it is much less pronounced. Last year's Force India had a sausage sticking out of the front, so this is a huge improvement. This make me hopefull the rest of the cars will look good.

Looks like a livery from MP4/12 to MP4-20. Mclaren would be proud of this.

My first thought was it looked like a West McLaren Mercedes.

Apparently McLaren have hinted they're going back to something reminiscent of a previous livery... let's hope they don't turn up wearing the same dress as Force India, that would be embarassing :)

Judging by the teaser on their website I think it is more likely McLaren will be unveiling a red and white livery.

A child in an 80's bedroom with a hover board, and packed with 80's toys would suggest to me a return to that era. I can't wait. :)

My first thought was - that's the ugliest front wing I've ever seen.
The colors are nice though.

What's with all the winglets and mini-barge boards around the radiator inlets? I thought these were banned?

I thought that FI were using a 2014 car with the new clothes, and a mock-up of a 2015 nose. With the new car not due for launch iuntil the first pre-season. So the actual 2015 car might not look exactly like this.

Unless I am wrong.... again, in which case ignore what you have just read :)

Yes that teaser does suggest a revisit to the old Malrlboro cigarette box of the 80's Honda era. Prob wont be the same design though as I am sure McLaren don't want to be accused of being in the pocket of a cancer company.

Yeah I doubt it'll have Marlboro shapes on it but I expect red and white livery. McLaren have never unveiled an ugly livery so it should be good :)

Being a Kiwi fro NZ (now) I would love them to go all the way back and race in the old McLaren team Orange. But with honda as a part owner in the company red and white is the most obvious and practical

you are right,

Apaprently its only the new livery and the car will be seen on Feb 19 - why are they calling it the launch of the new "car" then?

It's last year's wing! I doubt the new one will look hugely different though.

So the pen1$e$ are still there... they just seem less... excited. Couldn't they come up with something that makes them really go away? And what was Vettel's porno name for his car last year?

I like the livery I guess.

Someone said it looks fast, which is a strange thing to say, but I get what you are saying. It does look a decent start of a car.

I wasn't really being serious :) There's always someone trying to judge the performance of the cars on the basis of the launch photos.

No i agree, i think it looks fast too.

The black basis is nice but that silver color definitely shouldn't be there. It is too common and looks like a cheap-cola imitation of another team(s). Fresh green was much better. It should've been orange instead of silver and green instead of orange.

Paint it silver and get a rebate on how much Mercedes will charge for a power unit :)

I want a bright yellow & Purple car or something rather than all the blacks and silvers

Remember Jordan & Forti:p

I was thinking the same re Sauber. Last year their car was dull grey, and so were their results. So to keep sponsors etc happy they should paint their erm... car metallic purple, with acid green and sparkly blue swirls on it - just to get noticed.

.......and Lotus has released this teaser. Staying rather conventional, but will it contend with their Mercedes power plant?

The Lotus is the nicest looking car we have seen for years.

I have a feeling the McLaren will probably be the best looking new car, simply because they so often are.

26th January 2015, 20:47
The Toleman (it is NOT a Lotus!!) looks rather good. But based on last years effort anything would look fast.

If the chassis works as well as the 2013 one did, they should be in contention at least with Williams for podiums.

Thats the sort of thing. I must have had that image somewhere locked deep in my thought when I wrote the previous post.

It would be cool if the Williams was done up like that for a race or two.

Martini cars have always had great schemes, except Williams' use of the colors has been a bit underwhelming.

True, but most if not all Martini sponsored F1 teams have had a plain livery like Williams, eg Brabham in the mid 70's had almost identical designs as Williams have now, so I am wondering if this a corporate decision from Martini?

This one was red simply because Brabham had Alfa Romeo engines at the time and red was/is their racing colour

You're right that graphics on the F1 Martini cars were more miminalistic than the sportscar schemes.

They all seem to be a little different. The Lotus used a lot more color.

Lots of Martini photos here: http://martini.racing.objet.voila.net/accueil_objet.htm
