Utter madness....there are times when I wonder if Eurosport know what they're doing.

dodge33cymru

Baffled. Hope there's a small chance of them changing their mind, but it's slim at best.

Would be good if one side or the other would actually clarify the reason; the silence is deafening.

Sorry arnmar4, but many idiotic decisions have been made in rallying in the last years. Keeping Circuit of Ireland and dropping Rallye du Valais is one of them.

Good news. Better news for me as I'm all sorted for visiting for all 3 days. Any idea what a prospective R5/S2000/RGT list could look like?

Just need to find somewhere to watch the World Cup Final on Saturday afternoon now...

Great news! But how many Gryazins are there actually? It's already Gryazin The Third, isn't it? :)

If we are talking about rally, there are 3 of them.
Stanislav Gryazin, father of 2 sons and rally driver in the past (contended in ERC in early 200x)
Vasily Gryazin, older son, now recovering from terrible traffic accident
Nikolay Gryazin, youngest son, now the only active driver from the family

I suppose Breen and Kajto won't go to Valais now. Will Lukyanuk still go?

dodge33cymru
12th October 2015, 08:15
Yeah, I guessed the same for Breen and Kajto. Lukyanuk is hardly in it for the championship so I expect he will still be there. Hope a few others see it as an opportunity.

No, but was rumoured he might if the championship was still open. Now he will probably save those pennies for next year.

Agree, first he needs to prove that he can be fast in 4WD and it's fwd driving skills and speed are not always transferable to 4WD cars (Lefebvre case).

Primary, he needs to learn how to fight for seconds for win, to gain experience. WRC is more like marathon where you have no chance in first seasons...

The cars are drying it as they pass, there's a film under the trees but there's a dry line appearing. Fog is massively variable too, sometimes I can see the mountains opposite, sometimes I can't see my hand. I'm at the top of Crans-Montana.

Congrats to a final win for Breen with Peugeot!

His words after last stage give a hint of an end of his ERC campaign, at least with Peugeot Rally Academy:

"It's a huge win for me. The team really took a big risk to take this chance on me. I have had a wonderful couple of years. The year has been good speed wise, especially on the specialized rallies. Our speed has never been in question, but our season should have been better."

Good win for Breen but typically he has a clean run and a reliable car when it's too late.

Autosport.pt reports that he used 20 tyres instead of the mandatory 18 previously marked by stewards. Sos, when it's not Breen doing the damage, it's the team... Long gone the times of Kronos Peugeot being the rulers in semi-oficial french cars...

#FIAERC It took the stewards 4 hours to give @Craig_Breen a 2 minute penalty for a tyre infringement.

yes but what kind of tyre infringment? did he used more tyres? not approoved tyres?

sadly is official....

Last minute: Breen demoted from first place to second

Craig Breen (Peugeot 208 T16 R5) has been demoted from first place to second at the 56th Rallye International du Valais. Following a report from the technical delegate stating that Breen used 20 marked tyres during the rally, the Irishman incurred a 2min penalty. As a consequence, Alexey Lukyanuk (Ford Fiesta R5) is the winner of the last round of the 2015 FIA European Rally Championship.

So Lukyanuk with two wins in ERC this year. Not so bad considering that he has no plans to participate at the start of the year. Hope his results in ERC and in WRGB in 2 weeks to convince some sponsors in his abilities and he can arrange a proper program in 2016.

Saintéloc that is. They have nothing to do with Peugeot Sport other than that they're allowed to wear official merchandise and somehow they can still run a program when it's been proven time and time again that they're incompetent at just about everything.

What Pickems? How many Peugeots will survive the rally? ;)

There will be 5 Pugs 208 T16 on the start line:
- Craig Breen (Sainteloc)
- Bryan Bouffier (ROMO Motorsport)
- Bruno Magalhăes (Delta Rally)
- Jonathan Hirschi (HTZ Rally Team)
- Emil Bergkvist (Sainteloc).

How many of them will reach the finish line? :)

Now we can answer this question. Lets sum it up:
- Craig Breen (Sainteloc) - finished second due to a mistake of Sainteloc team
- Bryan Bouffier (ROMO Motorsport) - hit a wall and lost a wheel
- Bruno Magalhăes (Delta Rally) - finished 14th after many problems with his Pug (brakes, transmission, etc.)
- Jonathan Hirschi (HTZ Rally Team) - crashed on SS13
- Emil Bergkvist (Sainteloc) - after a problem-free rally he finished in a very good 4th position

Another bad rally for Peugeot. Even without Kajto Ford wins again!

It was overal a very good season for Ford. Do you know it is the first time since 1994 when Ford wins European Rally Championship? Over 20 years after Patrick Snijers and his Bastos Ford Escort RS Cosworth.

You may be right, but it depends on the ambitions that Peugeot has. If they have
- former world champion (Breen)
- multiple Polish/French rally champion (Bouffier)
- multiple Portuguese rally champion (Magalhaes)
- current ERC3 champion (Bergkvist)
on the entry list, then they have to be disappointed after being defeated by a relatively unknown driver from Russia in a private Ford :)

What a waste! A perfect rally from Breen and the 208, but the team manage to screw it again...

The Peugeot Academy program it's a fine contribution to the sport, but Matton, as the new overall PSA sport's boss, must get a proper partner at ERC.

Last two year results are damaging Peugeot rally reputation. That's a shame, as the car can be really competitive.

No and that's the thing. Everyone seem to take the Sainteloc pugs as some kind of benchmark. To my knowledge Ucci has had almost no problems with his car at all the two years he's been running it in the Italian championship (and Sardegna).

I don't have a complete picture of other privateers but I kinda wonder if it isn't Sainteloc that are utterly incompetent.

No, they are not the only ones with a lot of problems. Other suffered too. For example Koči with TRT 208 hasn't finished a single WRC2 event this year I think. Princen in Belgium retired or fought with many problems in nearly every rally as well. If You go through WRC2 results You can very rarely find a 208 which finished some event no matter how many of them started. It's more like Racing Lions are the exception from the rule.

RallyPower listed a couple that was doing well in the R5 thread and it has finished quite a lot of events...

Koci I have only followed only a little bit so I don't know much about him. The few events I have seen anything of him he crashed I think.

I am not so sure it is as unreliable as it is made out to be. Karl Kruuda seemed to run reliably when he wasn't crashing. If there are reliable privately run cars, that must mean that the ones who aren't are not checked properly or something Like that (or run a tight budget to try to make a profit or something like that). I think it has more to do with how you handle it than anything else.

But then again, I'm a fan boy so I am massively biased. You could be right and I'm lost in a haze of fanboyism.

Funny enough I was never a fan of the S2000 207 (or the 207 at all for that matter) despite it being the best sounding rally car ever, hahahaha.

In Denmark there is a DS3 R5 and and 208 T16. Both have 100% finishing record. Both driven by gentleman drivers, so probably not too hard on them, but anyways, they are not unreliable.

I'm not sure that we can blame Sainteloc for all the problems. Magalhaes has had multiple problems with his Pug throughout the whole season in this year's ERC and his car comes from Delta Rally.

For Andreucci it's possible that they check/renew some parts (like gearbox, diffs, driveshafts) between every event. The average length of the rallies he drove this year (except Sardinia) is 144km SS, almost 50km shorter than the average Belgian event, and less than half of the SS km's run in the shortest WRC event. Great maintenance in combination with shorter events could explain a lot. The difference in teams is huge, the price differences must mean something. There are several examples of same cars in different teams, where in one team a car always retired while some other (usually more expensive team) never has any issues with it. Someone mentioned Kronos here. The reason why Kronos isn't doing anything in rallying anymore because it's impossible to compete with the price of some teams and still deliver decent quality, as Van Dalen said in an interview some time ago.

In that Le Matin's article, Philippe Rauch (RIV director) is quite harsh to Sainteloc: it wasn't a mistake but a deliberate move to ease up Lukyanuk pressure over Breen.

It also mentions that Sainteloc firstly alleged a stamping error from FIA delegates, but after a close check to all used tyres they've admitted the use of that two extra tyres, considering it as a mistake due to rush servicing stress.
