View Full Version : I'm a idiot

Well, fantastic news. I have today discovered that yesterday my £400 camera has been lost or stolen.
I was out an about, and went to go for my camera today and its no where to be found.
Its not a huge amount of money to some, but I am not blessed with excess cash, and I really loved my camera.
I have no idea whether I put it down next to me and someone walked off with it or whether as a complete idiot I have put it down and left it somewhere.
Sadly I was out in public, so its nowhere it can be found.
So there you go, complete waste of my time and money, just because I am to stupid for words.
It has upset me really, and I wonder if its even worth bothering with a new one. Is it worth having a hobby like that, when I could easily be stupid enough to do it again.
F****** pissed off and had enough of everything for today.
Just wanted to vent some frustration. Can't be bothered to post anymore for now. Bye bye

Sorry to hear that man :(. Sounds like something I would do to be honest!
Are you aware that you could quite likely claim on your household insurance.

Bad show Steve. Have you been to the local constabulary, on the off chance that an honest person has turned it in?

I don't think you're an idiot Steve, in fact I bet you find, it or have it returned by lap 25 of the Japanese GP.

I'm really sorry for you Steve. You're right to be upset but don't say you're an idiot.
It can happen to any of us ( once my brother even lost/forgot a bag with his underwear :p). It's a big loss but maybe you'll get a new one for Christmas from your family. Do you have an idea where you lost it? Maybe someone with a honest heart found it and left it to police or left word to a shop in the neighbourhood....
I had a coworker who lost her purse on the bus two times and always got it back.

I have a friend who rode his bike to the library, got some books, then walked home. He never saw his bicycle again.

I am a very kinesthetic person, I am forever picking things up and putting them down and never seeing them again, until I open the fridge etc. It is a huge cause of amusement for my clients. Half the time I don't even realise I have something in my hands :)

I was in another Town by the sea front. I will be contacting the police to see if on an off chance anyone handed it in.
I love my camera and have started taking photo's over the last couple of years, some of which I have posted around here, but I now doubt whether its worth it in case it happens again.
I am probably just speaking out of frustration, but I wonder if its worth it.

Having disposed of Steve, it's my turn to confess to being an Idiot.
I've just spent two days on and off making a wooden box for a favourite game whose cardboard box has disintegrated. I finished it, screwed the knob onto the lid then went to try it.
The board would not fit in! :bigcry:. Somehow the outside dimensions match the board rather than the inside ones. Who's an idiot? :dork:
Tomorrow I'll have to start again. Working at normal pace, instead of 'pensioner's pottering pace' and without the learning curve I might get it done in a day.
Before you ask "Why not simply buy another?" They don't make this particular version any more. :angryfire

Save time and trim the game board to fit the box :)

Is it common in the UK to insure stuff like cameras?
I am sorry to hear that steve.. Sh*t happens.
If there isn't a chance of getting it back, you should just chalk it up to a life experience!
see read D-Type' post for an example of that :p:
Wait till you have some cash and get another one, don't give up on photography just because of this incident.
Christmas isn't too far away it it? :)

How can they insure something that you can easily hide and then claim it has been stolen?

Many homeowners insurance covers such things. My brother lost about $2000 worth of gear in a kayak incident and it was covered by his insurance.
Steve,
Life happens, and we all do something that makes us angry at ourselves at times. I do know the feeling but it's not worth losing sleep over either.
If you like photography, you'll get another camera sooner or later. If not you'll find something else to spend your money on.
One thing I've learned over the years is that no matter how little or how much money you have, there are always material things beyond our reach that we would like to have. But if we really want them, we make it happen somehow. And really there is no material thing that brings you happiness anyway, that comes for free.

Steve, check the lost/found section of whatever internet buy & sell is popular where you are (over here it's kijiji).
If it's not in there, post a lost add in same and hopefully someone will contact you.

Don't beat yourself over this, Steve. I know it pains one when you do something like that and you can't even remember how or what happened. But having driven off with everything from my coffee to my phone to my briefcase on top of my car (the brown liquid running down my windshield made me say, "Hey, where's my coffee???!!!), you get other things on our mind and you just forget what you're doing.
Use this an an opportunity to start saving for and then shopping for an even better camera. :)
Just remember, as long as nobody died, it's not so bad.

Thanks everyone for their advice and kind words. I do feel stupid whether I lost it or it was pinched. However having calmed down, I am more level headed today.

Thanks for the kind words and offer Donkey. Don't worry about it though, I can cover this one. Donate if I ever misplace my car :p

*Side note Barca are worrying me still, although Messi last night was the only player who played anywhere near what he can.

Let's play a game at Steve's expense shall we :D
Pino....poll please :p:
For losing his expensive camera, is Steve:
A). An Idiot: A foolish or senseless person.
B). A Numbnuts: A person of severely limited intellectual prowess.
C). A Moron: Another word for George W Bush. Someone who lacks one shred of intellectual curiosity.
D). A Douche: Word to describe an individual who has shown themselves to be very brainless in one way or another, thus comparing them to the cleansing product for vaginas.
Disclaimer: this poll is in no way intended to harm the public image of the subject involved. All similarities to real persons is completely intended. No ants and/or giraffes were harmed typing this post.

I hope you haven't bought a Panasonic. I did and have spent three weeks trying to get the idiots to send me a manual as my printer is knackered and I can't print off the disc they send. "It's impossible" "It's against our eco policy" etc.
Hint: A letter to the Company President in Osaka did the trick.
