Thanks for putting this up, its interesting but still the result of the first three being on the same points (just about) is the same.

Not sure where Kimi gained the extra point

What it'd be like with NASCAR system?

I figured that out last year. I don't want to do it again.

Standings with the previous F1 points system:

1. KR 18 points
2. FA 18 points
3. LH 16 points
4. FM 13 points
5. NH 9 points
6. GF 3 points
7. RK 1 point

and the rest of them no points.

There is a bit of a difference and the ones that would be in a worse position are LH, NH and GF who do have a bigger gap to the 1st position than with the points system in place now.

Constructors standings:

1.McLaren 34 points
2.Ferrari 31 points
3.BMW 10 points
4.Renault 3 points

I can imagine it was a big pain in the butt, with all the points that can be earned per race. Finish position, laps led, etc. It'd be interesting, but I wouldn't want to do it either. ;)

It's more work than it's worth, and it still doesn't work very well for F1. For example, under the NASCAR system, you have to complete one lap to score points (in a system that's set up for 43 starters), and at Indy last year, 7 drivers were taken out at turn one. So the 15th place driver got 118 points and everyone taken out at turn one got 0.
