gadjo_dilo

Wow. Deserved really, Uruguay have been average. I predicted 2-1 so its still on.

You had to predict 1-2 :p

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 22:22
Costa Rica screwing my predictions and putting themselves in pole to challenge England & Italy.

Pino.. I think this is better than a Uruguay win slightly, but a draw would have been good.

I think it's good, provided that they will be able to win the match vs Costa Rica....

Not according to Steve Gerrard ! :p:

steveaki13
14th June 2014, 22:27
Also this sums Uruguay up too. They got 4th in the last World Cup but didnt qualify for the one before and were knocked out in the first round in 2002.

They can be awful these days or battle all the way. They are of course South American Champions and should never be taken lightly. They could beat both England and Italy still.

Probably most dull game of the first round, but still in my mind it was going to be worse. :D

Neither GK had masses to do. Some great defence by the Italian when the ball went across the goal face.

Either team could win this, haven't learnt anything yet really

Something is wrong here. As per the football books:
- Enlish style is based on attacking football
- Italian style is based on defensive football

Am I wrong? :dozey:

pino
15th June 2014, 00:51
I believe Prandelli made 2 mistakes, Panetta is too slow and Balotelli is too lonely in the front. So I say : Panetta and Verrati out, Bonucci and immobile in !

Can't see where an England goal is coming from. We look like our old selves in the last 10 minutes. Poor on the ball, lacking ideas and energy.

Sad. Hopefully we can beat Uruguay and Costa Rica but I wouldn't bank on it. I predicted we would go out in the group and that could still easily happen.

Tazio

England had great scheme in the first 20 minutes or so because that is when I took a break from the game and missed almost all of next 25 min's. But Italy sort of weathered the storm and the turned it over to their finesse game with Super Mario giving them a big fast talented physical antithesis type football player. That is why he needs to be wing forward, because they can generate offense (or the fear of it), and play the controlled relentless though mediocre offensive game. Their control of the balls just inside midfield though was superior by a little and they controlled and pushed their transition game very well. But then again I think they sort of knew what to expect from England, and they knew they had fast wings that ain't no freakin' secret! They had to respect the counter-attack but a speed advantage (which can be neutralized) in their set offense (England’s), with speed and at least 3 shots before Italy scored and had all the best chances. I think England has a fascinating side, and I think they are the new old Italy to a degree were fortuitous (Italy) because I saw a lot of shots from them that early that were really struck well, but didn't find the back of the net, Of course Italy had some well struck balls after they had the 2-1 lead that were scorched or tattooed! http://i46.tinypic.com/hv9ul3.gi:grenade:

Chile 4-0 Australia 3-1

Group C
Colombia 1-0 Greece 3-0
Ivory Coast 1-1 Japan 2-1

Group D (being honest not with England tinted glasses)
Costa Rica 1-3 Uruguay 3-1
England 1-1 Italy 1-2

Its crazy. The actual technology gives the goal in the Refs ear and he gives the goal. They should make the TV & stadium coverage wait a couple of minutes to play in the graphics. So as not to confuse the situation.

The graphics we saw on Telly have no relevance to the goal. Thats something colourful to show on screen of how the decision is made.

Why they stop the footage when the ball first struck the post "no goal" instead of playing it through straight to when the keeper pushed it in "Goal" I dont know because that was what caused the confusion.

The crowd not working it out saw it stopped after it hit the post and saying no goal and celebrated. Then once the replay was played on to when the keeper pushed it over the line and it says goal. the fans suddenly go mad.

If they took time. FIFA would realise there is not a need to show the audience the incident until the game is back under way. Just let the Ref give the decision and play on before showing replays.

Here are my preferences for the outcome of the cup:
I'm pulling hard for the Dutch, but they are really the only European team I think I like except Spain and France, I guess Italy a little but Taz the American really doesn't care for Italians. I would really be happy if a team from the Americas win the championship as long it is not Brazil, or Argentina to a lesser degree. I do like Mexico and hope they do well especially if/when the US take a quick exit.

Because women like the winners. :p

You have a short memory. At the european championship I supported Poland motivating that. I. like. outsiders and you were also intrigued.
Argentina is my fav team of all times and those who know me can prove it (see thread. Interview the person below you - Word games). Fair to say I'm a bit annoyed by all the fuss about Messi but I hope he'll prove he's a genius.

Of course you can naturalize a few players but the good ones have already played for their own country.
Anyway a team is built in time and until Greece will have a new face we'll beat it and go forward. Just keep that Mitroglu apart.

Sadly neither players aren't what they used to be....
I'd rather watch them playing for the game's sake than seeing their faces or muscles on stupid tv commercials. At the end of the day football is a game where players mission is to score goals not just keep a convenient result for getting points in a sports ranking.

You never know with Italy, as we always compete with a very strong squad. But if I have to be honest I believe it will be Germany to win this time. They will beat Spain in the final, while Brazil will beat Italy for the bronze. Finally, beating England always gives me a great joy... :p:

It is too late with a little one who gets up any time from 4.45am to 6am and wishes to have your full attention whether you've had a good night sleep or not. To top it off she has a chest infection and I think I've slept 8 hours in total since last Thursday! Its put a serious damper on my World Cup so far but I'm sure those of you further around the planet have it worse with games in the middle of the night. This is the first World Cup I can remember where I've missed so much 5 days in I think. Four years ago I'd have watched at least 4 games in the pub by now lol.
