Hi!
I'm Keith from Seattle. I'm a big fan of all forms of Motorsport. One of my favorite things to see in racing is drivers who cross over to various different racing series. I like seeing NASCAR drivers run sports cars or F1 pilots hooning rally cars in the off-season. Something I've been thinking about for a while now is a way to encourage more drivers to participate in types of racing outside their primary pay-check series. And while this meta-racing series will never ever actually happen, I'm still a bit obsessed with putting together a set of rules and keeping score. So the question I put to you the Motorsport community is, what are the 20-25 premier races world wide regardless of series or type? I tried to pick at least one race from each part of the world and from each premier racing series with no more than 2 races from any one series. Thus, because of the merger I had to choose between the Daytona 24, Sebring and Petit Le Mans. I also wanted to limit the total number to 20-25 with at least 5-10 having motorcycles. Those that are motorcycle and car are marked "+m" Those that are motorcycle only are marked "m." Here is what I've come up with so far:
Dakar (+m)
Rally Monte Carlo
24hrs of Daytona
Daytona 500
12hrs of Sebring
Daytona 200 (m)
Bol d'Or (m)
WSBK Imola (m)
Monaco GP
Indianapolis 500
Isle of Mann TT (m)
24hrs of Le Mans
Nurburgring 24
TT Assen (m)
Pike's Peak IHC (+m)
Suzuka 8hrs (m)
Rally Finland
Spa GP
Bathurst 1000
Baja 1000 (+m)
20 races total. 9 are eligible to bikes. 14 are eligible to cars.
I'm certain that this list is not the best it could be. I'm certain I've left out a least a few of the great races and I'm certain at least one or two of those on my list don't really belong with the others. Should the Nurburgring 24 really be there? Suzuka? What series am I missing entirely? (Motocross?)
Thanks for your help, and I hope this inspires some spirited dialog. :-)
