Didn't they obliged to do recce for all stages? Or the regulations just said maximum 2 passes on stage and you can skip someone?

As I understood it, they missed a part of the stage because they took a wrong turn...

ss11 is 6pm Uk time. So its not live on BT sports at 5pm

Steve

No, sorry, this is incorrect. The stage started at 6pm French time, so that's 5pm UK time.

BT Sport 2 ran a re-run of their live coverage earlier (SS9) at also 5pm.

I think he got caught out underbraking because of water (maybe icy) and that put him into the corner with just a little too much speed...

Weather. for tomorrow.
Take your umbrellas out!
Currently it looks like stage 13 and 15 will be very heavy rain..all the time!
Turini stage, also heavy rain, but current numbers are indicating that snowfall should start between 1300 and 1400 meters. That makes up to 6 km of snow on Turini stage. Moreover, by the fist pass, the thickness of snow can be up to 15 cm, by the second pass, it can be up to 25 cm. So, lets see. I will get the latest update for mu weather maps tomorrow morning:-)

I've noticed that this is a regular problem in live onboards which are broadcasted in some TV programme... For average joe, it's weird if there's no narration. Therefore they try to talk whatever nonsense to prevent "silence". In Finnish Eurosport Jakke Honkanen sometimes says "now lets listen to pacenotes for a while..." but even those pauses in narration are too short imo...

that was the reason i always prefered Loeb from Ogier. With Loeb you couldnt find these errors even at Monte with same conditions as this year. You could watch 40 videos from past Monte. Not a single mistake like these.Same situation for every rally.

I think FWD cars with less HP are easier to drive in these conditions than the Porsche, the Twingo is also more fitted for rallying than the Porsche.

You could hardly get annoyed at Kubica for that mistake. i have seen lots of videos with every driver making similar errors. Kubica was simply in a bad sport for it to happen. Saw Ogier hit a rail that under any other circumstances would have wrecked the steering.

In his notes, Neuville had "droite i", which means something like "an unimportant right". So he normally that is easy flat, he just got surprised by aquaplanning/ice... What a pity, but as mentioned here before, it could have happened to anyone. Ogier and Ostberg could have been out on the first stage too.

Watching the highlights from yesterday, a lot of the action seemed really slow to me. Is this simply because the drivers were not on the right tyres or are such tyres not available to deal with these conditions? I don't know much about the latest tyre rules (compunds, cutting e.t.c.), can someone update?

But before it starts 14.48, all you rally nuts look here for a live coverage of swedish rally championship in "sprint" with Petter Solberg in his C4 WRC, Thomas Rådström in a Xara WRC and many more. Put some of the fastest guys are sadly not there.

Dimviii is right, Loeb was much smoother and tight. However when he did have to push 120%, which he rarely had to unfortunately, he would also make the ocasional mistake on gravel.

This is why I think the Loeb-Ogier comparisons are unfair for both of them. Ogier is much more agressive and sometimes all over the place in his driving style, while Loeb was smooth and incisive.

1/2 SS12 23.40km Wet road for 9km. Slush next 2km then 3km solid snow up & over Col de Turini, 2km more slush then wet for 8km.

SS13 16.55km Very fast wide road - wet throughout, low cloud in places makes visibility tough. Straightforward compared to prev though.

It was just an observation and if Ogier had gone off I wouldn't expect him to say what you've just said.
I think he is cautios enough, when you see wide corner in these conditions you use every meter of it to keep good momentum and as much speed as possible. Did you notice Hirvonen almost gone off after the corner, being cautious before it? For me that was bigger risk.
If is strechy word... With many 'if' Loeb wouldn't be 9 time champion ;)

But isn't that the difference between Loeb and Ogier? Loeb was actually a cautious driver, just that his level of safe driving was on a different level to anybody else. He didn't take risks, he didn't need to 99% of the time.
As said earlier Ogier is a more entertaining driver because of his driving style. And long may that last, great to watch. He didn't need to go that wide on that particular hairpin with almost no traction. But as I said before, it was only an observation.

It is true that Loeb was more cautious probably, most of the time he didn't have to take many risks, because didn't need to. But circumstances on first day was such that some risks were necessary, otherwise Ogier might be merely 3rd/4th right now. It is driving on the limit and beyond that makes the win in such Rallies and that's why it is such great sport.

It is true that Loeb was more cautious probably, most of the time he didn't have to take many risks, because didn't need to.

he wasn t more cautious,he could drive at 100% inside the road. And of course he had to take risks.Gronholm,Mc Rae Sainz,Solberg,Hirvonnen at his days wasn t easy to be faster from them without risks.
Except if Neuville who hasn t finished Monte, private Bouffier with mimimum test,Kubica at his first wrc drive, and Osberg needs more risks......
Ogier is best, but the perfection of Loeb nobody can say that has reached ,at least now.

Do the modern studded tyres have any stud retention problems? I remember that as a problem in years gone by - if there was much wet tarmac for a stretch before the snow started, then many of the studs would be lost before the car got to the snow. Possibly a bigger problem on the second run when the studded tyres have done more miles?

that was mainly problem at Michelins because of the way they installed spikes at tyre.Pirelli were much more resistant to this problem because spikes were installed to tyres at their manufacture.Michelin installed spikes after the manufacture of tyre.

I think RedBull were promising at least 26 live stages this year, if I remember right.

Fun Fact: If Ogier wins today he becomes a driver with a win in every WRC stable rally in the calendar.

Okey, the bad thing is that they not promote this very well. All their live coverage would be easy to find on wrc.com or on a special page and that they promote it on wrc.com and in other national rally medias!

But it maybe will come later on.

Well, Ogier and Ingrassia already won Monte in 2009. By the way, a much better edition than this one.

I guess it will be the powerstage at each rally, and the first running of that stage too.

Too much water between the boats now, drivers just trying to keep status quo, now that Hirvonen passed Evans.

Not very exiting for the finish of the rally!
