Rally started yesterday via ceremonial start (or the day before by scrutineering). Today was free day for press conference, tomorrow is shakedown and on Thursday morning starts first stage (at 7:28 (http://rally-base.com/2014/rallye-monte-carlo-2014/time-table/))

Service park is a bit crap and poorly laid out. Its like Citroen have been shoved in a corner out the way, while the other teams are randomly spread around.

About time the Brits were back at Monte Carlo... :laugh:

http://www.ralsys.com/irally_admin/news_images/Victor%20Bruce%20copy75.jpg
The first British Monte winner, the Hon. Victor Bruce with his Autocarrier (later AC) in 1926

Good history from iRally:
The event has only been won six times by UK drivers. It’s half a century since Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon won the 1964 Monte in an original Mini: 46 years since Vic Elford and David Stone won the 1968 event in a Porsche 911.

Elford was the last British driver to win the rally: victory at Monte Carlo eluded Roger Clark, and world champions Colin McRae and Richard Burns.. :eek:

Too much mass on the front? Front shocks too soft? Rear shocks too hard? Could be numerous reasons but you are right, something seems definitely wrong.

Looks like the rear is very hard. Similar thing I remember with 207 S2000 which I believe was designed by same designer as the i20 (Bertrand Vallat).

generally from videos so far we ve see so far from tests,i20 seems to be build/setup like a ds3 and not with so big suspension travel like fiesta/ polo.
lets wait to see it live tomorrow at stages with same circumstances as the other cars.

Bryan Bouffier: " I forgot to put the boost at the first passage and the second was caught François Delecour who was driving nails, so it was rather an average morning. We are fighting against many official teams, already a top 5 would be great. I felt very comfortable with the car from the beginning. This is a very easy and healthy car, it moves a little faster in but it will . "
Mads Ostberg: " To be honest, it's nice to be official driver in the team we see that it works hard. The car is perfect asphalt here. I really enjoyed the moment . For me, this is a new way to control the behavior of the car is different, as the gearbox and engine. We need to change a lot of things . "
Yves Matton: " The objective is not to play to win. Both drivers have little experience here WRC Kris Meeke only 10 departures a WRC. It will grow slowly for pilots take control car. You can have a Monte Carlo with changing a mile to the other portions.
Both championships remain significant with the WTCC. It is sure that we are not in a position to win a championship but we can still make some shots bursts . "

Michelin’s top drivers have a choice of four types of tyre for this year’s Rallye Monte-Carlo, namely a snow tyre with or without studs, plus ‘soft’ and ‘super-soft’ versions of the firm’s asphalt tyre. The RC1 priority drivers have a total allocation of 82 tyres to choose from (24 softs, 24 super-softs, 24 studded snow tyres and 10 snow tyres without studs) but may only use 40 on the rally.
Engineers from Michelin Motorsport and their counterparts at Michelin’s Technology Centre have develop a new compound for the Alpin 4 snow tyre which combines enhanced performance with improved longevity, especially on dry roads. This solution is recommended when the proportion of snow and/or ice on a stage exceeds 20%. If used, it will most likely be employed in its studded form.
The regulations concerning the studs themselves have changed slightly compared with 2013, since the number of studs per tyre has come down from 240 to 200. The maximum overall stud length is 15mm, of which only 2mm may protrude from the tread blocks.

Agree. Is it so difficult and costly to show and update shakedown times and some short texts on the official site, like Dakar have been doing?
Instead we have to follow 10 websites, 20 forums, 30 twitter accounts and 40 facebook pages at once in order to collect a mosaic from small bits of information

Do a search for, say, Germany http://www.wrc.com/search.php?suche=germany
Go to results and stage splits for 2013, click on any link and.....and........and you get 2014 page with the message "DATA WILL BE AVAILABLE ONCE THE RALLY STARTS" LOL

15th January 2014, 14:04
Tomorrow weather should be mostly 0..+3 degrees in the morning and a bit higher in the afternoon (on the stages). Rain should start in the morning as the stages start and then get stronger as the day progresses. Stage 3 and 6 (last in the loop) is on the highest elevation and there is a big risk that 30-50% of the stage might be covered by fresh and wet snow (in the morning). So, the faster will be the one who is the fastest after stage 3, do not make conclusions after first or second stage.

Edit: +35 cm more snow predicted for the top of Turini during tomorrow :-)

Finally a nice shakedown stage for Monte, infact for WRC rally held in France:-)

Some wishful thinking.............
If weather forecast is correct (snow above 1000m), we can expect around 80km on snowy roads.

SS / Highest Altitude / Distance Above 1000m / Total Distance
======================== Day 1 ========================
1-4 / ~1050m / ~2km / 25.49km
2-5 / ~1100m / ~2km / 17.98km
3-6 / ~1300m / ~4km / 19.34km
Day 1 Summary: Total of ~8km above 1000m
======================== Day 2 ========================
7-9 / ~1180m / ~11km / 49.03km
8 / ~1200m / ~14km / 22.68km
10 / ~1320m / ~23km / 36.85km
11 / ~1280m / ~8km / 20.77km
Day 2 Summary: Total of ~56km above 1000m
======================== Day 3 ========================
12-14 / ~1600 / ~17km / 23.40km
13-15 / ~880 / 0km / 16.55km
Day 3 Summary: Total of ~17km above 1000m

Yehh I'm there with Ally and Mintex and agree. Look and sound great - but just not 100% on it yet as is to be expected I guess. Sordo was a bit disappointing. Looks like they'll be aiming for top 5 more than podium at this stage. Still interesting to see Bouffier's true pace after the mess up today! Excited for tomorrow - seeing ES1/4 and ES3/6 - both have good spots, and potential for snow on ES3 in the morn! Will post updates tomorrow night.

Thanks Allyc85 and pettersolberg29 :). Yeah car does sound good from ive heard/seen on vids. As long as the car isn't massively off the pace like say the suzuki sx4 was il be happy. Maybe the hyundai will be around the pace the Mini was when it made its debut or just a little behind that in competitiveness?

pettersolberg29

Good point but shakedown was a tight layout where handling and speed out of corners was at a premium. On similar tyre choices with standard conditions throughout (dry with frozen mud turning to wet mud through the last half of the session). I don't think s/d will be representative of the whole rally but it did show the VW and Citroen combos are better at this time.

Probably because of his "result" in 2013 season. There is no qualification in WRC this year, only in ERC.

What is the weather forecast for tomorrow?

According to post of Bluuford from some previous page there is a high probability of snow around Col de Perty on SS3/SS6. Otherwise wet if I remember.

Well guys the 2014 season starts in the morning and I think there are many interesting things to follow, even if Ogier and VW will almost certainly be champions again.

I hope the new Citroen boys will be able to compete for podiums at least and I hope Mikko gets his mojo back; I've never been his biggest fan but he is not as bad as he showed the last two years. It would be really nice if he and M-Sport could win at least one event this year.

I'm expecting Mikkelsen and Kubica to further improve throughout the year, neither are both fully ready yet but by the end of the year maybe things will start to come together?

Hyundai, I guess Neuville's first win won't come this year but if the 2015 car is good then maybe they can compete with VW eventually.

LOL f*cking ridiculous to have prokop running so high up the order - ahead of mikkelsen, meeke, delecour and even bouffier :angryfire. Why cant some sense not be included when making these decisions ...having delecour behind this 'random guy' is very stupid. Meeke and delecour could also be severely hampered or greatly benefit from running far back if weather changes quickly.

Loeb took some championships 1st on road, and while he had a difference from Fords you was pushing him with clear road,not allowing him to relax even with minutes diff from Fords.This was much more difficult job.
Stop moaning and drive Ogier.
