Dafuq is wrong with menthols compared to regulars? EU is making itself look more retarded than it already is.

Various lobbying groups fight under the carpet over what to ban and what to promote. The difference between menthols and regulars boils down either to a pet theory developed and promoted by an ambitious group of researchers, or to the competition between cigarette makers. In either case you only get to see the results of the fighting and bargaining. Nobody will bother to tell you the actual story.

Soon the EU will just ban people, it will be less paperwork :rotflmao:

The ban is on 'flavouring' or other things to make smoking seem nicer than it is. Plus there is research which suggests menthol is more dangerous than other cigarettes as it opens up the airways allowing the chemicals to more efficiently destroy your lungs.

That does not in anyway conceal the fact that it's a ridiculous crackdown on people's rights, and that it's only going to increase criminal activity as more people will simply buy cigarettes illegally.

EDIT: And having a menthol every now and then IS nice. I only smoke probably one cigarette every few months on average, but when I do a menthol is very nice.

Human beings are naturally stupid and will ignore common sense. Smoking is a nasty habit in general and rights associated with it are far from many peoples list of priorities.

Something very important that you need to learn:

I enjoyed the comedy of Bill Hicks, in fact I still have a few on VHS from the 90's. But, although I laughed at his stance on smoking, I didn't agree with his opinion on it. Bill himself quit smoking in the last 6 months of his life, but still found the strength to make a joke of it, and I admire that.

To be honest I have no problem with people who want to smoke in their own homes or personal space, but as long as it is kept there. I fully supported the smoking ban in the UK and although it affects the rights of the smokers, it liberates the rights of those who don't IMHO. I've watched in recent years a couple of close family members die at the age of 51 and 52 of smoking related cancer. I don't really have much time at all for the habit, sorry.

same here, although my relatives were older.

At least you live in a civilised country. In Spain, despite data already convincingly showing the positive effect of the ban (reduced hospitalisations and costs for smoking related diseases), the government of Grand Donkey Mariano is talking about changing the laws to partially allow smoking again... why? Because otherwise (alleged dodgy element) Adelson might not build one of his Mega-Casinos near Madrid.

Can they ban alcohol, too?

Last time I checked, my sister wasn't killed by someone who had smoked too much then got behind the wheel of a car.

Last time I checked, nobody had been beaten up because somebody couldn't handle their cigarettes.

Last time I checked, I hadn't seen a smoker become violent and abusive towards their children because they had nicotine in their system.

I don't smoke. Used too, but gave it up. I therefore am not pro-smoking.

Alcohol is a far worse, far more corrosive, horrible poison. Alcohol can destroy the fabric of a family with the speed anti-tobacco campaigners could only dream of.

I f-----g despise it.

Your right of course. But you know it'll never happen.

I know, my friend.

It's just that Alcohol has cut through the heart of my family, through no fault of our own.

But so long as everyone is having fun!

Except it isn't fun to see your parents suffer the sort of heartbreak that will never stop, or have to identify your beautiful younger sister after the accident.

Cheers, everyone.

Cheers.

I think I'll bow out of this debate now, if that's ok.
