It's like asking someone from Australia or S Africa who their favorite character is on Corner Gas...they'll just scratch their heads and look at you funny. As for your questions, having friends and family in your area, I'll take a shot:
1- Great Circle cruise is either a navigation of the American inland waterway system, but more likely a cruise of lakes and canals in S Ontario.
2- Has to be Manitoulin, in Lake Huron. A friend has a cottage there where you can see an island in a lake which is on a island which is in a lake.
3- The Sleeping giant is in Lake Superior near Thunder Bay
4- Giant's Tomb is near Penatanguishine in Georgian Bay

The only "canyon" in the east that I can think of is Ausable Chasm in New York (I think it's a stretch to call it a canyon :s ), a popular stop for Quebecers on route for a day of fun at Plattsburg beach on Lake Champlain.

River: No idea; I'll guess the Ausable River :D

Its' pint sized cousin is also familar to any racing fans who went into town at Watkins Glen. A small canyon right off the main drag in Watkins Glen state park is a nice little hike and a diversion when you go there for the racing. The classic racing circuit that was based on the roads in the area basically drove around it.

You got it Mark. I expected you would. I don't know where our 'New Yawkers' were. It is about 60 miles from both Buffalo and Rochester. 3 good sized waterfalls at North end and a large Dam at the South. It is a State Park and quite spectacular. About 17 miles long. If I remember correctly the Canyon is 700 feet deep at one point. Not all that far from Watkins Glen.
Yes, the State Park at the Glen is worth a hike.
We drove the original Glen Circuit. Does take some finding in places. Stone Bridge is something. Must have been a thrill in those 40's & 50's cars along with the 2 level crossings. I remember that they had to time the races between trains.

I don't know the name of waimea canyon but it is by some mountain that is the wettest place on earth or so some claim ( i tend to doubt that as I been to wai'ale'ale and she ain't no wetter than a couple of other mounts i been in.......) I think some say one side is very very dry (yes I have dealt with some of those as well) and the other is where they filmed fantasy island king kong and such

Twain never went anywhere except to king Arthur's court and up and down the mississississsissippi river....clemans might have gone to hawaii but I doubt it, but he was the master, no doubt about that

The locals claimed Clemens had seen Waimea Canyon and you are right, the Alkali swamp at the top of the headwaters leading onto the canyon drains from the extinct volcano at the center of the island where it is purported to be the wettest place on earth. The hilarious thing is, down 15 miles at the bottom of the canyon on the south shore, it is dry and desert like in spots. I saw cactus for crying out loud!!!
