Summer is already half over :s .
Anyone been anywhere exotic or exciting for summer vacation? Or, like the schmenkes, haven’t taken holiday yet?
Post pics if you have any :D
The schmenke clan will be hitching up the wagon next week and embarking on the usual summer road trip to Wallyworld, well, this time to Farragut State Park in Idaho.
Nearby, what the kids are looking forward to:
Silverwood Theme Park | Just North of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho (http://www.silverwoodthemepark.com/)
What daddy is looking forward to:

I'm on my third week.
Nothing exotic, i've been drinking beer, washed my carpets, spent a week and a half in the family cabin, waxed on and off the car. If weather isn't bad, I'll try golf for the first time on friday. Next week I'll propably do a two-three day drive somewhere in Finland.

Not been away since Sweden in February which is most unlike me :s . Next trip is to Spa for the Grand Prix 5 weeks on Saturday. To be honest I don't mind not being away in summer, it's not unpleasant weather so prefer to go in spring/autumn to put off winter as much as possible....
Still hoping to get to Kenya for three weeks in November though and maybe Sanremo in October with a bit of luck :D

Tomorrow I will be flying to my favorite country - Colombia.
I will be landing in my hometown Medellin tomorrow afternoon.
We are no longer Pablo Escobar's play house.

It's not uncommon in communist western Europe, heck, I have four weeks for summer, one week for winter holiday and a six additional days the company I work for asked us to take days to help with financial issues. :D

 You have a six week summer holiday?
The CBA/union that I is connected to entitles me to 5 weeks of vacation each year of which I am entitled to use four straight weeks
during the summer plus additional 60 stand alone hours called "arbetstidsförkortning"
which were suppose to mean that employees would work 25 Min less per day but most people save the time and use it when needed.
Some other unions/CBAs have 6 or 7 weeks of vacation but no "arbetstidsförkortning".
I haven't been around much this summer, 1 day in Stockholm and it seems also rally spectating on Saturday (probably SS19 & 22) (http://www.motorsportforums.com/european-national-rallying/146459-midnight-sun-rally-sweden-14-16-july.html#post1145860).
However I was 4,5 days in London in early may this year. A very nice city but just not quite as pretty as Stockholm. ;)
Also when the weather is like it has been the past weeks, warm and sunny, I'm not really in the mood of going anywhere coz'
when the Swedish summer shows itself from its best side its very lovely at my house.

I had a hell of a year and all I tried to do to change things failed lamentably.. Including my plan of a nice holiday, a week just for me, without thinking of work, family or so called friends. Since I was again on the verge of depression I did a crazy thing. Inspired by the song InwO1ObFPPE
Yesterday I packed a few things (admitting you know what 'a few' mean for a woman) and took the first bus to the seaside. Now I'm in 2 mai -Vama Veche, a bohemian small vilage by the Black Sea, on the border with Bulgaria. But fatality again. On the beach I met my (so called) best friends. We're trying to live again the experiences of the old times but it's not the same.
I don't know how to post pics but it's nothing spectacular about this place. What is special is the spirit of it and that is hard to explain. It was always a place for free people (can you imagine that even the communists tolerated a mixed nudist beach?) who camp on the beach, play guitar on the sand and drink without causing trouble.

I had Phase 1 of my summer holiday a few weeks ago - ten days with friends on a hill farm in Southern Italy.
I've just had Phase 2, three days at Goodwood Festival of Speed.
I'm waiting for the boss to decide what Phase 3 is (I'm sure she has something in mind)
and I still have the Goodwood Revival to look forward to.

I've mostly managed to get work stuff out of my head for the last three weeks. Only small thoughts of the looming workload appear, but they get quickly suppressed back. :)
As a last act, tomorrow I'm taking a two day drive on smaller roads to visit friends, then to the family cabin for the weekend.

Yep. I have not had a real vacation this summer yet, just a couple of days off when I wanted. Of course, on those days I end up discussing work stuff on the phone for 2 hours anyway and sitting behind the laptop for the rest of the day  .
I would quite like to take a vacation and get away for 2-3 weeks in the autumn, but reality is that I just won't have the time for it.

The main reason we do September vacations, in addition to the weather, is that all the kids are back in school and everything is much less crowded and a lot more pleasant to enjoy.

I'm on the second part of this year's holiday.
As usual I dreamt of Paris, Barcelona and Vienna.
As usual I ended up in the country at one of my cousins holiday house near Campina.
They say that during holidays the weather you enjoy is according to your soul.and if it's true mine should be very dark as it rained a lot (not lightnings and thunders though....) and during nights it was freezing cold. The place is superb, although wild, people very nice, although half of the village is from Bucharest.
They also say that in this area is the purest and the healthiest air in the country and it's compared with the air in Davos-Switzerland. However I still feel the smell of mowing hay and cow's p•o.
The place is quiet and boring as Heaven so all I could do was wandering barefeet through the grass, drinking beer, enjoying barbecues and visiting the other ( as boring ) villages in the neighbourhood. When it was sunny I could sprawl in the grass with a book in my hand.
Came back tonight in my boring hometown right in the middle of an ecologic protest. I'm finally relaxed, with my batteries reloaded and ready to face the viccisitudes of life for a few months until Christmas when (as usual) I'll fall again on depression.
Until then I'll smile and continue to dream: next year it will be definitely Barcelona.

Hey, tfp, we've travelled there 3 times in the last three summers, mid to late July, and it's been hot! Over 30 deg. C every day with no rain. Summers there tend to be hot and dry. Last summer we were almost forced out of our campground due to nearby forest fires.
