As I couldn't find yet a proper threahd for WRC Germany 2013 talk, I opened this new one.

Stage names were published yesterday (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wrc/128975-%5Bwrc%5D-news-rumours-part-ii-650.html#post1120801) and also the first maps are available on the event site:

Maps - ADAC Motorsport (http://www.adac-rallye-deutschland.de/uk/karten/static/)

Timetable I can't find yet. Looking at stage names - Friday, Saturday and Sunday looks a lot like last year. Thursday introduces the new stages for the evening when the rally comes back to Trier area from Cologne's ceremonial start.

This is the first time that the historic city on the Rhine has been chosen to stage the spectacular prelude to ADAC Rallye Deutschland, which is why it was necessary to make a tour of the locations.
Part of the plan is to get all the contestants together on the historic Butzweilerhof airfield after the transfer from Trier to Cologne. One other site in particular that needed inspecting was Roncalli Platz which is where the show start to the rally will take place in front of thousands cheering fans on Thursday 22nd August. The tour concluded with a visit to the starting point in the harbour area.

Also rally pass price was announced last week. It's now 69 euros. They've dropped the previous years' system with three different level of rally passes, now it's just one with one price.

Any comfirmation will the extra events run as usual?

And of course all rumouring about possible entries outside WRC regulars is welcomed :-)

I visited the event last year for the first time and liked it so much that will return this year too. Everything is booked - also the good weather.

H, I'm definitely going too - BBQ party?- The rally pass price is one level because they are not running the Porta Nigra SS on the Sunday in Trier this year. Which 'extra events' are you referring to? - the Slowly Sideways Classic rally car demonstration?

I wouldn't go there back year after year either, if it stays like this, but I've only just started going.

Apart from the stages themselves, from last year's experience, the whole event was very well-organised all around.

I was referring to Slowly Sideways and the national event.

I think we will skip the shakedown and thursday, probably leaving from home friday early in the morning.
Possibly only going for 2 days or stay one more night for the two stages on sunday.

Im going to my 11th Rallye Deutschland in a row and like every year i'm really looking forward to it. Especially every vineyard stage offers countless nice places.
Visiting can only be recommended.

it will be my first time there :)
Do we know the price of each stage ? And is Stein and Wein a stage in vineyards ? :)
And what about Dronthal ? Only one big stage in France in 2010 was a big disappointment for me - because there was too people, and one loop was cancelled :(

Last year it was 10 euros for single stage except 15 euros for Panzerplatte and the city stage. Don't know how it'll be this year, but it's a fair point if you're not doing all five days.

We stayed near the end of Stein & Wein last year and that part was in the forest. First part of the stage is different, but I suppose it's not traditional vineyard stage. Dhrontal had its parts in the forest too, but also in the vineyards. Last year we stayed in spot where we could see cars approaching and exiting at around four points in the distance and then of course the part in front of us. Last year Sunday was Dhrontal twice and the city stage. It's in big part different audience and there were no problems in the proper stage, so I'd be benumbed if it'd be problems this year.

In Stein and Wein is about 30% in vineyards, Drohntal about 55%.

Here's the itinerary: http://www.adac-rallye-deutschland.de/docs/wrc/static/187/Zeitplan2013%20Internet.pdf

Any idea could it be possible to do both stages on Thursday? To me it looks like a tight drive from SS1 to SS2 with only 2 hours between 1st cars, but not exactly impossible.

For Friday and Saturday I'm planning 3 stages each day, should be nice and relaxed that way.

From the south-most point of SS1 to north-most of SS2 is stated as 1hr 4mn on Google Map. I'm usually 5 mn slower per hour than Google. Then you have to factor in walking time at both ends of the journey. Could be done seeing the top 12 cars (which means you should see the leaders as it's tarmac) then make a dash for it. It does seem unnecessary travel from Trier to Koln and back though, can't decide yet myself

That's exactly what I figured out too. Plus if it's 1 hour on navigator in normal conditions, it won't be during the rally. This is left to be decided.

Hello all.

I am thinking of going to Rallye Deutschland this year and I have not been to a rally before, much less this one. I have several noob questions and I hope you will forgive me for asking them. I have visited the official site, but was hoping to get some viewpoints from people who have been there.

I am trying to combine Rallye Deutschland with the Belgian F1 GP on the same weekend. I was thinking of going to the rally on Friday and the GP on Saturday and Sunday. I assume that I'll need to buy that rally pass, even though I am only going one day. Correct?

On the Friday, how much is generally possible to see, realistically? There are 6 SS.
Is it even possible to get to them all, or do I have to pick and choose?
Which ones should I definitely see? How far away are the car parks, generally, from the viewing points? Will there be many people on the Friday, or is that more reserved for Saturday/Sunday?

Should I attempt to visit the Servicepark in midday and try to get back to the stages? Is there enough parking near the Servicepark? Or is the Servicepark located in the city and will be difficult to park around there?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Previous years I've managed to see four stages on Friday. The first and third stage of the loop. Depending how many cars you want to see, it is possible to make a quick visit to the service park between the morning and afternoon loops.

Parking distance from the stage varies and on some stages where there is road side parking it also depends how early or late you arrive. Could be as close as few hundred meters or around km on some stages. I think they've indicated the distance from the parking to the stage in the rally magazine. And you don't need to worry about huge crowds (that's also pretty much up to the location you go to spectate).

About service park and parking. I can't say there's a lot of room close to the service but there's enough and most of the road side will be filled with parking cars.

No need to buy the rally pass but you will have to pay 10 euro for a stage pass so if intending to go to 2 different stages each on 2 occasions that will be 20euro. The service park is 10 euro PER VISIT and really won't be worth trying to visit across lunch if you are determined to fit 4 stages in the day. I say this because 4 stages (watching the top 15 WRC) is really only possible by the 1-3-4-6 itinerary. You'll need to park at the Trittenheim end of stage 1/4 in order to drive to the Wintrich end of the 3/6 stage if you look at the schedule this is very tight which means you wouldn't have time to drive back to Trier, park (and that can take some time as normal weekday restrictions apply) see something and then get back to Wintrich. You'd be better watching the WRC2 competitors and perhaps the historic rally cars. I will probably do 1-3-4 then service to watch as the WRC cars arrive back in the afternoon. If you want to see more then a rally pass and taking in a Thursday stage and service makes economic sense.
:bounce: Just booked my ferry and reserved my camping place this morning!!

Hartusvuori
28th May 2013, 17:11
I'd recommend only 3 or even only 2 stages for Friday as well, if you are new to spectating rallies. Be it 1-3-6 or 1-4-6 stages of the day. In Germany you get the national event and historics between the WRC stages, so it's not much waiting, much more action. In Friday I'd do service park either early in the day or after all stages. Parking can get difficult, but if you have healthy legs... Also, don't get rally pass for just one day, single stage entry tickets are better option. But perhaps you like the rally so much that you don't want to leave for Spa... :-) Oh, and buy the spactators' guide. Crucial help.

Franky
28th May 2013, 21:57
Well, last year I actually did service-ss1-ss3-ss4-ss6-service. And on each stage we watched pretty much every car till the last S2000, so about 50-58 minutes at the stage, longer on SS3/6. So pretty much everything is possible, just a question what you're after really.

Just looking at the possibilities of going to watch this as a cheaper option to Finland, and I notice on the website there are a list of campsites, has anyone ever used any of these?

Also I see they give a list of spectator areas to camp at, are these free or an added charge on top of the spectator pack? Thought I had seen a flate rate price somewhere but cant see it now.

Anyone got recommendations for places to watch at too?

Cheers

Mintexmemory
2nd July 2013, 10:13
I'm booked to stay at the camping marina in Schweich, in 2010 I stayed at Camping Moselblick in Klusserath. There is such a wide variety that I'd just say look at the stages you might want to vist and select one that cuts down your travel. I'm going to be fairly relaxed this year so Shakedown and SS2 (plus visits to service park) will be my Wednesday and Thursday programme. Friday SS3 then move to SS5/8 for the rest of the day. Saturday most people want to visit Panzerplatte but I've done that (unless someone knows a spot that is less crowded) so I'm going to SS9/12 with a visit to re-group at Bilstein in between. Sunday Dhronthal then parc ferme. If we get good weather you'll enjoy whatever you decide to do

Hi guys,

This is my first WRC rally attendance and I was wondering if the tickets are required in order to be a spectator for the rally stages.
Can't I just drive in the morning up to the nearest parking , leave the car there and head on to find a nice spot ? What does the ticket offer extra ?

Thanks .

MartijnS

It offers nothing extra for you, just for the organisation ;)
Offcourse there are always spots where you don't get checked..but don't go to the official spectator areas than.

No, nothing. It only allows you to go to the stages, and take use of public areas etc. :) It's the most important income for the organizer to cover the huge costs of organizing a rally.

Actually, Lahti Historic Rally starts tomorrow (w/ Latvala in Quattro), but I've always missed it and will do so this year too. 037 is there. I missed the event even when it was run together with NORF. If I remember right, Jensen with 037 ran with number 3, and when we left SS Hassi and the historic cars came towards us in the highway, number 4 was the first I saw...

Indeed it does. I put Neuville on the podium in my pickems, looking at this video, it must be possible if nothing unexpected happens. Let's hope it's a clean run and tight fight for Neuville, Latvala, Sordo and Östberg.

Well.. by looking these videos.. Neuville is going to win in Germany by one minute...

If Ogier picks up a puncture, one minute lead for Neuville is possible... After a week we'll know more.

My guess is that Sordo Ogier and Nueville will be on podium. Who will be first, second and third is very difficult to predict. I hope for Sordo to win. It will be good for him, for citroen for the championship. He definately has the speed and the car to win. We have to see if Polo is up to speed in tarmac. Ogier is the favourite in the papers, but it will be it's first Tarmac rally with the polo... Nuevville is one of the fastest Tarmac drivers available and expecting a lot of him if the setup of his fiesta suits him. He is able to win

It is a Tarmac rally. But with snow, ice, water and different tires, it is not a good benchmark to see if the polo is as fast as it is in gravel. For sure it will be fast, since they are doing a great job in vw motorsport, but we have to see if it is fast enough for the win

TN has made a big leap forward in the last 6 months... BUT ... I think people are getting his ability as a tarmac driver out of proportion. If you look at his Citroen performances in Germany (12th), France (4th) and Spain (12th) last year they are a long way from being convincing. Who took second place to the tarmac maestro in each of those rallies - JML. Sordo will have to find something very special as he only set fastest times last year when everyone else was cruising. Ogier is JML's only competition on tarmac form (oh, and the rock!)

Only SS Peterberg on Saturday is run in opposite direction compared to last year. Otherwise differences are small. You can find info how stages compare to 2012 edition here: http://www.adac-rallye-deutschland.de/docs/wrc/2013/static/179/Appendix_1_Itinerary.pdf

None of these rallies went perfect even France he had his mistakes and not only him remember Gilsoul at TC...

Fiesta suits him better than the DS3 it looks and like with the S2000 he's second year with the WRC is much better. Second year with S2000 he won the 2 big tarmac classics Corse and San Remo. First day can be great just hope nothing goes wrong like a crash or something.

As Pluto said, because FIA doesn't give him a fair chance to make a good result... If you have to start behind all the others, you lose lots of time because of the gravel/dirt thrown onto the road in cuts. So why ruin your reputation (being slower than he should be) and spend a lot of money?

Excuse me here. I need to see black on white (or pixels on the screen) that Kostka really would've had to start there where he was on the entry list. Where's the logic? Foe example in Finland Tahko started among WRC crews and his participation to an FIA WRC event didn't differ to Kostka's plan. Same with other WRC one-offs as I recall. So, what's really the story?

tommeke_B
16th August 2013, 18:03
@Hartusvuori and Pucky52, yes... But those also had a number between WRC and WRC2. ;) From what I know it happened more that FIA let "unproven" drivers start behind all the others, even with a WRC car. I remember 2007-2008 where several Dutch drivers were driving WRC cars and ended up starting around number 50-60 I think. And yes, in WRC, Kostka is "unproven". His outings in Barum were Always good, and his prestations in the Czech Republic are remarkable, but apparently FIA didn't bother putting him where he belongs... It makes no sense, but there are more things that make no sense in the world of WRC...

Watch the posts of the member we're talking about. It's the 3rd time he's posting the same video here. And similar videos have been posted already before... Some people join this forum with only one goal, which is "spamming" their photos and videos trying to get more views. They use it as a "one-way channel", they just come here to post, don't read anything and don't comment on anything, they are not real members IMO. I bet they will not even read the comments we're posting on it. So why bother? I don't think they add any value to the forum. Everything that is worth seeing will make it to the forum for sure... With or without spammers.

Further to Tom's point in the post above, it is a fine line between disallowing seemingly irrelevant posts (and if you look at ADAC 2012 there were more than enough posts showing the Prokop fire and a bozo making a mis-interpreted joke about 'no super rally then?') and censorship. We are getting increasing incidence of 'numbers' spammers and trolls so to protect the community some deletions may occur.

Quite surprising piece of news... For some reason, I don't quite understand it. If Markkula had his back injured in Finland (which I don't remember hearing) then why didn't VW had a stand-in codriver ready for Mikkelsen? They had over two weeks to work on a contingency plan. Plus would have been quite an easy job to find someone as he nowdays has English notes. Maybe the injury became apparent just short time ago? Perhaps most top-level codrivers are busy working in gravel crews?

I'm also quite surprised whit this news. Yesterday Andreas was posting on his twitter account that they are ready for rally Germany and the shakedown on wednesday and now only 2 hours before the start that news about the back injury. Maybe they were hoping that Markkula will be OK, but the last medical check showed that he can't compete?

Just speculating, but maybe Markkula's back got worse when he sat two days in a recce car. Then Volkswagen checked his back yesterday evening and found the damage.

Was the Mini so far off Ford/Citroën last year ?
I watched 2012 Rally France again yesterday (all stages were aired live on TV) and he seemed really off the pace, barely setting any good times at all. To me, Latvala, Neuville and Östberg (in order) seemed much more comfortable on the stages.

Lifesaver vest on the photographer. It is a heavy breaking after a very fast section. Doesn't look too bad from this angle, but still not the most safe spot...

This we found from Kubica's service lot.

Here are my friend's gallery from Rally Germany so far: ADAC Rallye Deutschland 2013 (http://rallirinki.kuvat.fi/kuvat/ADAC+Rallye+Deutschland+2013/)

Like it've been said here already, the shakedown as it is now isn't the most inspiring. Last year it was all new for us and there were some action, but this year it left a milder remark. Only thing similar to last year was that I got sunburnt today as well... Last hairpin right is okeyish, still nothing too special. Ogier missed the braking point on 2nd run and went a little wide, which must've been the first ever I saw Ogier making a mistake. Then we moved on to the place with long view on approach and departure with double right in the middle. Nothing remarkable there. A little bit less spectators compared to last year. Perhaps Wednesday noon isn't the most favourable time.

Tomorrow no rush to get up. These two first days are really easy. It should sped up from Friday morning.
