Do you really think Citroen has somehow just lost it when certain retired bloke is able to win on his not-preferred surface... Cars are really close to each other.

After one stage we have a nice polish battle (even if the two have unequal cars)It's hard to tell how fast DS3 RRC is, because nobody else is driving it on WRC circus. On the other hand, Kosciuszko is not exactly on the level (skill-wise) of Kubica.

Sordo:

"“It's very important for me to show I can do it and, okay, that puts a little bit of pressure on me,” Sordo acknowledged. “I will try to do my best and if we do well then okay. If we do bad, then at least I know I did my best.

"This rally is always a difficult one, and I'm sure it will be close, but there’s no holding back or complex strategy. On the first stage everybody will be on full attack. And I’m going to do the same.”

Did the 2 stages today. Not the best place on SS1, very hard to access the stages in a normal spot as organizers try to gather spectators like sheeps. We tried a lot of options, but the stage didn't look so nice. So our place on first stage wasn't too good, the place was too fast, too easy to take it flat out. On the second place we switched our place during the passing of tourist drivers. First place was a fast right one with big cut (see photo) before heavy braking before a junction left. Very spectacular for the "big" cars. For the DS3's, Fiesta's, R1 cars etc, we went to another place a few hundred meters from the other place. A fast right one with cut/bump before a T-right, also very nice braking. What was most impressive for me today, was the stability of the VW Polo's. It looks like the Polo WRC's are glued on the tarmac, really crazy (but it doesn't make it more spectacular). The DS3 WRC for example is moving a lot more, already tending to lift a wheel when there's some small bump. Also very nice spectacle from the DS3's and Fiesta R2's, you see they really go for it (unlike the tourist drivers in better machinery).

A quick photo of the not so surprising leader...

I remember Mirek saying last year before the issues at GB and Finland about BRR cars being very reliable as they are only one step (virtually) below the Works Skoda Motorsport cars, and that he could only recall one reliability issue previously. Well what the hell has happened since then! I know BRR cars are generally very good but it must be very frustrating for Paddon paying so much money for events like this to occur coupled with Wales GB and Finland from last year which cost him dearly.

Oh and go Sordo, Mads, Thierry and Jari-Matti!! :bounce: :D

An update on my friend's gallery: ADAC Rallye Deutschland 2013 (http://rallirinki.kuvat.fi/kuvat/ADAC+Rallye+Deutschland+2013/)

We did SS1 yesterday at the downhill section with several bends with cuts, same as is shown on the comparison video Ogier & Neuville dimvii posted here. We had almost the same spot as well, those guys stood next to us. We hadn't recced Blankenheim so we were lucky to find even that much. It was technical bit, but not very inspiring in the end. First we wondered where Novikov is, then we saw Paddon coming slowly and Evans behind. Paddon made way at the bottom of the hill, Evans virtually lost no time with that. I must say I didn't know nationals were running yesterday, so that was nice surprise. We moved a little to a place with deeper cut, WRCs must've cut two car widths or more. It was all Opel Adam from there on, but those were nice to watch.

Now were soon off to SS3. This schedule with two days with two stages isn't really the most optimal. It was seen on Blankenheim too, only a few spectators in my opinion.

Super frustrating for a kiwi fan, i really think he could have taken it to Kubica in this rally!

He had problem in SS1. In SS2 his car was ok but he was slower than both Kubica and Evans. Of course he has old-style S2000 car but still he was only a fraction faster than Wiegand who is not the very top driver. Now there are 14 more stages to go. Let's see.

His technical issues are really shame. In last couple of months BRR did plenty of events without problems with other drivers.

Is Wiegand in the factory Skoda though?

Is Wiegand in the factory Skoda though?

No, it's Juka Motorsport car as usually for him. Only in ERC Barum Rally he will use works car. In fact the car he is using now is very old, originally it was build in 2009 but of course it was upgraded later several times. Juka is very good team as well.

Super frustrating for a kiwi fan, i really think he could have taken it to Kubica in this rally!

It certainly is and I agree, although it is only his 6 tarmac rally and gravel is his preferred surface. He his surprisingly fast on tarmac all the same. His times in France and Spain last year where solid.

I could be wrong but I would expect that the extra torque of a turbo car especially advantageous out all this junctions , no ? Thoughts? Or is Germany more fast and flowing.

In 2011 Thierry managed to survive several incredibly tight battles in IRC. In Sanremo he won by 1,5 seconds ahead of Mikkelsen. In Mecsek he lost by 0,8 seconds to Kopecký. Both was after a full-event fight. I think he can stand the pressure but of course a victory in WRC is still something more.

Yes, but with all due respect, mister Latvala is something else! :) According to rally radio Thierry seems fully in control, "almost scary how focused he looks".. He's been an overperforming underdog up till now, but now there's no more excuses. His raw pace should be faster than Latvala's, I think.

What I'm missing is a benchmark for Neuville, as he's the only competitive Ford-driver at the moment on asphalt. Östberg, Novikov, Al-Attiyah and Kosciuszko are hardly a match. In Finland at least Östberg kept him honest, but now there is not really a way of valuing his drive in comparison to Latvala and Sordo. Because I do believe the Citroën and especially the Polo are a tad better right now in Germany. I hope he's not over-driving.

Anyway, Panzerplatte will decide all I guess.

at first: How can Neuville embarass the other top drivers when he has proved himself to be as fast as them? Neuville has come to the top to stay, as long as he´s not doing a big crash. Then it could be different.

PG not as fast? He is fast but not consistent. Compare to Novikov, they seem to do about the same errors but Novikov has works car PG has to fight with a less good car and still doing times (well this time splits... eh split...) which is as fast as top drivers.

He has the ability to break any car no matter what you give him to drive competitively. Saw him once in Sweden when new 1.6 WRC cars were introduced - he was cutting every single snowbank (light snow that year as it was constantly snowing more during the event), both front corners destroyed. Few stages later he rolled ... that tells you everything about PG.

Spectacular to watch for sure but ....

Cutting corner in snowbanks isn´t anything sensational when you are swedish rallydriver. But he cut one corner on first day too heavy and rolled, that´s true. After that in a relaxed mode, I remember he did very proper stage times during the rally, except for one or two 360´s...

hes probably confusing it with Richard burn simulator.. there are arows to show you

I know what he means, these little arrows that are on some T-sections. Like these:

So who's in for some serious Al-Qassimi trolling? A big shout to all the people on the stages this afternoon: just turn all the arrows the other way around when he's next up. This is the theme music: Entry Of The Gladiators - Julius Fucik - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B0CyOAO8y0)

You got me all wrong and I come from one of "nordic" countries as well, I know what snow rallies are and how people suppose to drive on these conditions.
He was until by that roll most impressing driver to watch, but all my friends with me told that this guy is going to end up on the roof soon. Which did happen sooner than I thought. That actually tells me everything about PG's career. Nuff said.

He should be test driver at Huyndai then, proving which parts don´t break down and which are during his handling...

Latvala is 7.6 sec faster than during first pass. I would have thought he'd be slower, with the dirt on the road..

So, will Neuville win all the afternoon runs today?

PS. Kosciuszko's out for the rest of the day. Might return tomorrow.

Nothing is certain, hoping for a good battle up at the top.

Is wrc live cutting in and out for anyone else?

Is wrc live cutting in and out for anyone else? No, no issues with WRC live. Other than their crappy music choices :)
