Just tripped over this:

F1: Stewards Confiscate Toro Rosso Parts After Spyker Protest

The thorny issue of customer cars has kicked off again in Malaysia after Spyker launched a protest against Scuderia Toro Rosso on the grounds that the car uses parts designed by another team.

Well so much for the hope that things would be quiet on this front while this was being taken to arbitration.

Nothing will happen during the weekend. There is too much money at stake. But it will be hard for the FIA to drop Spyker's case in the arbitration.

Spyker's doing the right thing as th rules go.
Not until 2008 can teams share cars.
STR should have just used the RB2 modified a little bit to get over that hurdle, as Super Aguri have with last years Honda and waited for 2008.

Well actually I think provided it was done right, that RBR/Toro Rosso's scheme of exploiting loop-holes would have been more "legal" then Honda/Aguri's and easier to excercise. But going by the article, it seems that perhaps because of time limits, or just plain lazyness some short-cuts where done and they may indeed be using parts designed while Newey was officially working for RBR, and not their created 3rd party, RBT.

Whats interesting in all this is the prospect of Spyker getting their hands on Red Bull Racing designs? I thought all hell almost broke out when some former emplyees of either Ferrari or Toyota was accused of stealing designs and bringing them to their new employer (which was also either Toyota or Ferrari)

Of course, it could be a Red Bull plot to make spyker embaress themselves, leak out the plans to the Red Bull designs to the questionable parts so Spyker assume that they are the same plans for the Toro parts, and then produce the actually plans/parts in question and prove they are different.

Only thing that is sure is that with Spyker we got the bigger whiners in F1!
They went to arbitration already, so what use to make this circus in Sepang? Free publicity? They took a leaf out of Pall Stoddard's book of dirty tricks.
I don't think I will ever be able to root for a team that tries to look good by taking others down while they can't built anything able to compete in F1.

Don't know if this is for real but it's funny.

Heard by a fly on the wall at Spyker - Guy with grey hat says: "Well, now what do we do? We're going to lose our case against RB." Guy with grey shirt says: "I don't know, we're going to have a bunch of guys hanging around the shop all day. I know, lets see if we can improve the design of our own car." Hat guy: "Well that is just a peachy idea - I've got some drawings for some parts we can use". Shirt guy: "What do we do if we don't come in last place? Do we celebrate?"
