I was trawling the net and came across the Zakspeed Ford Capri Turbo - which I've heard of, but didn't know too much about. So I did further research, and Wow! What a series; great cars, drivers and tracks. I don't think there is anything around now that is even remotely similar.

So, fire away please.

Precursor to DTM.

Started off as a Touring Car series then ran the monster Group 5 cars such as the Capri. The other iconic car was the Kremer Porsche 935s including the legendary Moby Dick 935 raced in DRM also.

As you're aware by now Klaus Ludwig made a name for himself in DRM

This isn't a series I'm familiar with.
I know the DTM ran from 1984 to 1885 but when was the DRM?

Yes, thanks! I've been on YouTube watching some clips/ highlights.

While I quite like the current DTM cars, there is something missing, and I don't just mean the lack of overtaking.

Well, after following the link you gave and a further link in there I find that the DRM ran from 1976 to 1985.
And I've corrected the typo in my previous post so it now says the DTM ran from 1984 to 1995.

Regarding DTM a lot series have taken a leaf out of NASCAR and become homogenous - cost control and xlose competition, Nissan and Merc having their aero performance balanced together with Ford and Holden.

Group 5 was of its time just as I and others were fortunate to livedin the last great era of motorsports that had Class A, GT1, Super Touring.

Holden in DTM? Surely in a German series General Motors would use the Opel brand.
