MK II Escort Engine Bay

Does anyone have the dimensions for an unaltered MK II Escort Engine Bay or can point me in the right direction? Also any engine recommendations that would fit with the minimum amount of alterations possible would be useful as well. I've looked at what has already done and is currently being used, but may have missed some during my research. Thanks in advance :)

You do not say where in the world you are. Different countries have different engines as the preferred repower solutions for Mk2 Escorts.

The only way really to know what is going to fit is to have the physical engine and the body shell and do a trial fit to see what needs altering unless you have a co-ordinate measuring machine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinate-measuring_machine and 3d cad etc. The cad drawings are probably online for engines in a 'pay to use' cad drawing site. Scanned Technical drawings for the MK 2 Escort are there too. Ask people who restore 60s and 70s cars.

What does it matter where in the world I live? Yes I have access to CAD packages if need be. The car will be entered in a purely fictional championship, It's a university project also we don’t have the car It's fictional as well.

What will the car be used for? Budget?


We recently fitted an all steel JRE 2.3 (Vaux XE) on Jenveys to the new Mk2 (Tarmac Spec) It is available in a number of different specifications and capacities (2000-2500cc) and the Specs/output figures can be seen at JRE Website. Its not the lightest engine you could choose but it is strong engine with good reliability, with 294bhp and 220lb/ft (iirc) It pulls well from low down and has quite a linear power delivery all the way to the limiter, very managable. This will be used for road rallying and we have £20k to spend but also there may be more cash available depending if the other teams use all of there various budgets up. What I mean about teams is there's a group doing the chassis and shell another the transmission etc. We've had a look at Millington engines but may be too much, thanks for the information though.

If you mean Road Rallies in the UK under MSA regulations that take place on open public highways then you need to read the MSA regulations very carefully and then study the specific local regulations from the area associations and organising clubs. These rules restrict the size, design and configuration of engine that can be used to such an extent that many standard cars (including a number of Ford Escort variants) let alone modified cars are not permitted.

Yes this for special stage rallying. The championship if you didn't see my previous post if fictional. The championship is someone who competes ultimate rally championship and has its own regulations, I don't think anything from the MSA applies with the engine but there are regulations on size to enter the championship but I haven't got them to hand.

Not likely to yield a useful result, MkII shells are snapped up immediately anyone gets a sniff. Rarer than rocking horse dung! Phil Mills and co are scouring the land for usable shells to build into 'RS1800's
