View Full Version : Why left-hand drive?!?!

Hi, I'm 12 and have been to the Wyedean Forest Rally lately and I noticed that a lot of the cars were left-hand drive.
Anyone have an explanation?? :confused: :confused: :confused:

Easy, Most of the rally cars on sale are imported from abroad and then registered in the UK. As only GB and Eire drive on the left it isn't economic for a foreign manufacturer like Subaru to make right hand drive versions of specialist cars for sale in Europe. Same goes for mainland Europe manufacturers. Add to that the fact that if a car is used for an international series the vast majority of rounds will require competitors to drive on the right. You might have noticed that Escort Mk 1 & 2 are often RHD as they were manufactured in England mostly for domestic use, although the works cars at the time were LHD

Modern cars like the Citroen DS3R3, Renault Twingo R1/R2, Clio R3 & Peugeot 208 R2 are only homologated in LHD too

Which means approved for current international competition categories. (since Mctavish is a newb)

I think that both Mitsubishi and Subaru are homologated in LHD and RHD to rally. (?)
For example the _real_ Evo is is of course RHD driven ;) Sincerely Japan has RHD traffic.
I have own now 6 years RHD car here in Finland and it's not a problem at all althought the trafic is right side here.
