Hey there,
Anyone going to Wyedean this year and has space in the car for one more ? i would be happy to follow and of course share the costs. I am in Oxford but i can be wherever you want me to pick me up. I would have gone with my bike since it is quite close but i just don't trust the weather this time of the year. Please pm me if you are interested... free sick dog jokes are going to be provided. thanx.

OMG just when I thought being a Mod was going to be a doddle! Welcome back and sorry that I'm not going to the Wyedean, would have been entertaining.
Anyway, get your WRC Pickem entry in - deadline before the start of shakedown ;)

What are your rally plans for the year Phil?
Wyedean once again is looking superb with the automatic 140 entries met, with some front runners still to enter. Saying that I would happily go just to hear Steve Perez's Stratos that he has entered :D

If it's the Wyedean - that means it will snow....
A great event to kick off the year - looking forward to it. Agree about the Stratos - used to be the same for the Peugeot-Cosworth.

Yep will miss the Peugeot Cosworth. Yet to see a Stratos live in the forest, looking forward to that like i did for Mr Burton.

I'm going to bet on there being no snow this year, it's about time we had a Wyedean where it's pissing with rain ;)
Really looking forward to this one, because of the value and entry it's always a good rally, and the compact style of the event means that it's easy to get around.

No rain ta, would happily settle for a grey day rather than rain or snow!
Unseeded entry list so far. Interesting to see a 2.3 Beetle in there...

Looks like Serridge in the morning, then Speech House in the afternoon. 3 stages are possible, but I prefer a relaxed day nowadays. For some reason, I always prefer Speech House in the afternoon.

Probably Serridge, Mailscot, Speech House for me. Anyone know of any decent spots in Mailscot? Also if anyone's got stage maps for this year (I've got previous year's) then they'd be gratefully received, if only so I can be sure which way they're running them this year.

Apparently there are some changes this year, maps are here boss.

I think we will be doing Sallowvallets and Mailscot.
edit: seeded entry list too. There is a 10 minute gap between 1400s, historics and main field, which towards the end of the day I hate!

I love that, it gives you some extra time to dash between stages so you can see the front runners a few more times :)
Hadn't spotted the maps on the site, that's the problem with just looking at stuff when you're on your phone.

Damn, was looking forward to seeing (and hearing) that Stratos very much! Big shame :(
Looks like Serridge for me seeing as it's ran twice. Am I right in saying that it's possible to do 3 stages in one day and see most of the cars? Only my 3rd year at this rally so don't know it too well.

I think you could watch the start of Sallowvalets. Leave after the top 10 WRC cars. And get down to Chepstow park in time for the WRC cars.
Then Serridge or Speechouse in the afternoon, for a compleate stage.
Anyone know if they are using Trellech common this year, on the way down to Chepstow Park.

I will be there obviously. Weather looking dry and cold at the moment. Heading over to the forest on Friday morning with my bike to do a recce for some filming locations, the rally can't come soon enough for me!

I wouldn't recommend going down to Chepstow Park, it's quite a long drag and I don't see the point of those extra road miles when there are decent stages closer to each other. 3 stages should be easy this year if you don't mind missing the 1400s (or some of them) at some point during the day and missing the tail end of the field. We're going to do Serridge 1 in the morning, Mailscot at 1pm, then probably leave after the first 20 or so and go to Speech House. Timings will vary a bit, we'll see on Mailscot what the difference between 1st 1400 and 1st of the main field and then base it on that. It may also change if we find a good spot to watch on one of the stages, then we might stay put to watch the whole field.
In the past I think that I've managed to fit in 4 stages, although that's almost certainly included some running! If you were willing to drive down to Chepstow then I suppose that 4 is possible this year by doing Sallowvallets, Chepstow (missing the 1400s/historics), Mailscot and then Speech House.

Mailscot toSpeechouse looks easy doing. And you can see all of Sallow Vallets in the morning. I Would be tempted with a drive to Trellech common, but its a non spectator stage, so not advertised anywhere. I belive they are using it this year. Just need to ask a mate who will know.
In fact Stage 3 is Trellech common

Nice, do you know what sort of time it's run? I could make a bit of a guess but that's always a tad risky. Trellech would be ideal if I could get to a spot to watch as it isn't as far to go as Chepstow Park

NO think i will have to make a guess like you. But i would guess its a 20 min half hour after the finnish of Seridge 1.

I must say the WRC field was dissapointing... reminded me the majority of Greece Group N4 field...
but the escorts and the historics made up for it... some of the Group Ns were nice also...
When i visit local rallies i keep my standards to a level... i do understand that these guys are there just for the fun of it and that is what i expect to watch... no big words or promises which is nice.
By the way... how is the level of the BRC compared to that of the BTRDA ??
last time i visited a BRC event was 11 years ago and Latvala was competing along with Laukanen and Teiskonen so the spectacle was really nice.

The BRC is a shadow of what it used to be. It's 2WD only now so most people are young kids hoping to make it big, most of them have huge budgets from daddy. I'd rather go and watch a BTRDA event any day.

Forgotto say hats off to Mat Smith, I've never seen a Ford Ka being driven as hard as that. I also can't believe that Wilkes was so far ahead, he didn't look anywhere near as quick as usual but he's still come in ahead of an unbelievable amount of top machinery. Last year a lot of people said that him having proper winter tyres on was a big bearing on his podium, but being top 10 in normal conditions is stunning.

That KA, was being thrown around by the scruff of its neck, brilliant to watch. As someone said above, the WRC field was rather poor. One of the poorest for a while on the Dean. But then I was missing a certain Peugeot Cosworth. Gone for well over a year, but not forgotten lol Steve
