There are no gravel crews on gravel events, so there's nothing to stop anyone from being drafted in.

Having said that, Klinger having been involved in testing was I'm sure had a bit of contingency planning behind it. It is a German team after all....

According to the latest official news, the participation of Julien Ingrassia is still uncertain in Finland. The final decision will be made during the tests and consultation of medical personnel.

We will do some tests in ten days to see if I do Finland rally or not. “For sure I want to be there, and I’m training in this way now, but if the medical staff say that it would be dangerous or stupid to go, then I'd have to be clever and think to miss one event to be sure to do the rest of the season.”

Thanks for the reminder (duh!). So nothing really to stop a request to Denis G. Question for those closer to it than me - is Klinger reckoned to be the best available francophone co-driver? Prevot must come into the reckoning

As Klinger is the Ogiers codriver in testing, it will very probably be him. Prevot would be a good choice, but Klinger is as good I think.

How many mistakes has Novikov done? Everybody is doing mistakes and to blame someone for one is... stupid, sorry. Nicolas won IRC and and plenty of rallies with Nico Vouilloz, also did many rallies with other drivers so he must know his job.

Just to echo Mirek's point I believe there is now a group called 'The Inverted' comprising all of Novikov's co-drivers! Correct me if I'm wrong but I think every one of them has been 'on the roof' at some time with him!

Ouninpohja has like 60 great natural jumps, which are just part of one of the greatest stages in the world... Why add some fake thing like that to the stage? What value does it add?

Only thing I can think is, that this will ease the pressure from Kakaristo corner. It's less than 1 km away.

For rally fans, the original 100+ jumps remain.

It's safe to say Ogier can win in Finland. Remember 2010 and even more so 2011, when he was so seriously with taste of blood in mouth trying to beat Loeb - but couldn't. Only things that could prevent Ogier from winning is the co-driver issue or his team mate. I saw him yesterday and seemed effective. Only times will tell how fast Latvala is, but he has all the means for victory too. Also Hirvonen should come with absolutely maximum attack as it is seriously make or break for him with continuation of his career.

I´m expecting the Polos to blow away the competition the same way the Peugeots did in 2002 in Finland, was there 5 or 6 Peugeots in the lead at some point. A clean sweep for the Polos, if only some local hänninen would be driving the 3rd car as well.

There have now been a break of almost five hours at Mikkelsen test. He'll be busy once they get the car fixed. Heard he went off on rocks, damage on rear right and underneath the car.

Both Finland and Iceland have historical cultural connections to the scandinavian countries, but in modern history there is not any such connection.
Finland and Sweden was connected all the way back to the year 1200, Sweden lost much of Finland in the year 1600-1700 and it was all over in 1809.

The list of non-scandinavian winners in Rally Finland is long....

There's been a some sort of spectator-related accident in WRC2 test today, apparently car hit a spectator. He/she is injured, but alive.

How is that spectator now ? there are a few rumors floating around ....

I don't hear rumours but a newstory on the local dailys website was last time updates 7 minutes ago and it still reads seriously injured. Spectator was a middle-aged man. He was taken to Kuopio University Hospital with a medical helicopter.

This surely was a sad accident.. The edge of the ditch was softer than last year and it "sucked" the car on to ditch.. Driver was trying to get the car back to road but it all went wrong :(

Can´t find it from internet...

I cannot understand why spectator zones should be kept out of the internet. For people coming to see the rally from abroad this is a big obstacle to plan their route in advance.

Does anyone have route map of 1994 Neste Rally of Thousand Lakes?

This year it's my 20th consecutive time live in "Jyskälä" and I've been doing some history work concerning my first visit in 1994 (I was just under 4 years old back then). I was to two stages with my dad and family friends. I still have the ticket from Himos stage (SS26) (first pair-start SSS in WRC afaik) and a photo of me at some forest stage waiting for cars. I need the map to verify from which stage the photo is from, as my dad can only recall the approximate location of the stage... Thanks :)

I have the VM spectator guide from 1994. Now it depends how detailed information you want. Do you would to have only the itinerary or a scanned jpg/pdf from the “big” map of some particular stages or any particular stage description?

Btw, I like your videos from the tests :) . I would also like also to attend those tests (but I don’t even know where the tests are) but it’s a little a far away from where I’m living.

I already have the itinerary, I'm in need for the big map (especially Saturday stages) as my dad only recalled some municipality in which's vicinity the stage was held. :)

Yes, they are. The spectator guide says they’re at about 3,6 – 4,80 km from the beginning of the stage but the length of the stage is 4,62 km. :D

I don't know exactly what jump do you mean but I have some footage...Novikov did some kind of endurance testing and did something like 12-13 stints straight. He ran out of fuel after 8th or 9th run..But his pushing was starting to get really wild as one can see from my first upload to youtube ever :D

Did SS Leustu recce start this morning to have a chance for chat with drivers. Did not stay until the end to see the only-recce drivers as it started to rain too heavily and had no rain gear.

We also chedcked again SS Himos' downhill part. It'll be interesting. Steep at many parts, narrow and also a lot of loose gravel just outside the line. The junction at the top will be problematic and it had roused some critic from the drivers already. It's too soft, sand, not gravel and it'll very difficult if not impossible for the higher number 2wd cars on the second pass.

We'll soon leave for QS. Looks like the predicted rain showered already and it'll be dry for the evening. If you want to follow my rally, see my twitter from the signature. Most propably the signal is weak in the forests, however.

Of course this forum will be the most important source of information throughout the rally. If you post links to news, please quote at least the headline or main things on the actual post. Like I said it can be difficult to browse stuff the stages, so if all is written in posts, it's less nerve-wrecking for us in the forests.

All of you, in the stages and at home, let's have a great Rally Finland!

Sorry for late post about test in last week.
As you can see my photos both Östberg and Jml had a lot of tyre wear in inner corner of the tyre. Might be intresting to see what may happen in race. Östberg had a full tyre surface broken and he had to change the tyre at the test stage.

Just came home from service park. They had a little problems with the electric systems so the fourth to fourteenth fastest drivers had to choose their places manually.

Yeah we had to wait for the shakedown to begin a little but then the cars finally showed up :)

Few first impressions. We picked a safe spot in Ruuhimäki, the end of jumps straight where you also see the following fast, cambered left and the junction right. Very nice place to spectate, quite a long view for Finland. Also quite a big crowd. Not too much during free practice, but until QS it doubled. At times it felt like a big reunion for me as many people I know from previous rallies and also forum I met at the stage. Belgian, French, Swede (finally, rallyper), Czech, Swiss, German, Greek - so nice.

Hirvonen's nor Ogier's pace were not surprising at all, also Neuville seems to be growing very nicely this year. Latvala was of course fast too, especially the 2nd run. Meeke's times surprised because at the spot he looked hesitant, braking earlier and a little nervous line. Hänninen got better with every run. Östberg should do better than QS resulted. Add Novikov, and that's the sharpest top. However, it showed that this year basically all WRC drivers decent, no half-hearted tourist there.

We watched P3 drivers too for over an hour too. The sound of R5 prooved disappointing live too, but the car is agile and fast. Lappi and Ketomaa should have an interesting battle. Kubica got better with every run, as did Evans. Rest of the field, so and so or less. The word was out that Ketomaa changed a wheel midstage on second run, I think. On first run he was 4 seconds faster than anyone else, but that's all times I've heard.

Tomorrow it starts properly. I approve.

It will be really interesting to see how these 5 cars perform in comparison to the RRC, S2000 and WRC cars.

I had a very enjoyable day @ Paviljonki and Ruuhimäki. Always nice jumps. In free practice, Meeke was jumping really far, maybe just to see how the car handles landing to flat ground. Bring the first competition day, I'm ready! :up:

Raining quite hard on Helsinki right now. I'm heading soon to Koukunmaa and weather forecast says that it will be raining even harder on there. Surely that will make rally more interesting.

Do the drivers which are not registered for WRC-2 category (for example:Pajunen) allowed to use tyres of other manufacturers (Pirelli, Yokohama)?

At times it felt like a big reunion for me as many people I know from previous rallies and also forum I met at the stage. Belgian, French, Swede (finally, rallyper), Czech, Swiss, German, Greek - so nice.

There's been an accident on highway E9 close to SS Himos. Traffic jammed, road blocked. That is on the liason to the stage so let's see does it effect start time of the stage.

EDIT: Route clear.

It seems the R5 is bit quicker than S2000 cars. Evans had a decent time and Brynildsen with problems writes same time as Lappi.

Yes, quite decent time from Ketomaa with Dmack's. Lappi will have hard time with him. BTW Lappi has private spec Skoda in this rally, not a factory car he's normally driving.

i would prefer a private car with michelins, than a works with dmacks.

Agree, but R5+Dmack vs. S2000+Michelin the R5 is surely faster still.

The local governments (such as Lahti) like it (and most likely pay for it). For the drivers it's not much to win, but a lot to lose, today. It's not the best concept for sure... But last year's thursday was not much better. Very long drive for only few stages... Now there is also a lot of road section. The "new rule" of FIA that events should have at least 20% of total kms being stage kms can maybe prevent these situations? Or at least prevent it from getting even worse...

Wasn't is 25%? Anyway it's good that a rule like that will be introduced.
