Since prices for cars in different classes are discussed in many threads, it might be smart to collect it in one.

The first time I heard of a FIA set max price was on S2000, that was 168 000€. It is some debate on if this was for a kit or a complete car.
but at least the RED Toyota Corolla was 168'.

Is it at all possible to control this, or will a max price only make room for black money under the table?

They don't care about that at all.

It's hard to see it as black money because the target price is nothing more than an FIA wishful thinking rule.

FIA operates outside the commercial circuit of a rally car, they don't act as trade costumers, so they have no power to get prices respected by manufactureurs and to reject any overrated cost.

That's not FIA function as top rally series aren't monotype series. Only real option is to make strict and efficient technical regulations.

I disagree. Technical regulations have very little meaning in terms of resulting price. S2000 cars are as simple as possible using almost only technologies from 1980' and You can see they are still expensive. It's really cheap to build S2000 car but it costs a lot to make it competitive through extensive testing programs, hiring experienced staff and drivers etc. It same even with cycling or skiing...

So no way to control the price, so why FIA go out with a max price then?

Where will the price for a R5 end up at?
Have any heard any talk of cost for 208 T16 or Fiesta yet?

What is your bet on first price of R5s?

It's already clear that R5 is to replace S2000. So I am sure it won't be cheaper because cars builders and parts suppliers are not charity organizations, they look at profits as maximum as possible. And FIA's function is to serve them, not to help private drivers as stated in official press releases.

Next week, 13/14 of March there will be official presentation of Fiesta R5 for teams & drivers so after that we should know more about the costs, etc.

I suggest the price for a built R5 car could well be between 220 000 and 250 000 euros. Considering the kit price should be 180 000 euros according to what FIA said (if I remember correctly). But the main difference in price should be the running cost, as already discussed in the R5-thread. The price of the parts of WRC-cars, S2000-cars and so on is very high indeed. But like Mirek said, there needs to be research and development, intense testing, homologation-procedure for the parts, manufacturer-team programme in a proper championship (see it as marketing for their rallycars too, to prove the capabilities of the cars they build), a big number of very skilled people who don't work for free, buildings to work in, machinery to produce parts with and so on... If building and selling rallycars would be big business with high profit, there would be more people building and selling them, rather than just M-Sport and Prodrive (who are claimed to be almost gangsters by some "slightly" ignorant people on this forum).

So what´s the difference between a R5 Fiesta and a RRC Fiesta?

Completely different engine, different suspension parts (all four corners same), different gearbox... It looks same but it's very different.

Was it not set a certain cost increase per year, for rallycars that FIA has set a maxprice for?

Where can I find the correct info from FIA on this issue?
