Arsenal and Porto both needing a draw to progess, 0-0 draw. Fancy that!
Cant wait for the Chelski Arse game this sunday, hopefully itll be a thriller, on current form Chelski should easily win. Still remains whether to be seen if Mr Henry will be playing, if indeed ever again for Arsenal.
What does everyone think of the current take over talks surrounding my beloved Liverpool? Personally Id rather there not be any mega rich owners pouring millions into clubs just to turn them into a brand, but whilst everyone else is at it I dont see why we shouldnt dip in.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Henry leaving for Barca or Real Madrid. There been rumours Gerrard could head to Spain as well, but i think he's too committed to the club.
As for the takeover talk, i think its a formality for a team in the premiership now to be taken over by multi millionaires :p : but i dont think it wil do liverpool much harm, i think it could be a good boost for the club, it might just help win the premiership one season as well :p :

Best or not, I notice that Lyon are always rated as the biggest outsider in the CL, but surprisingly enough they never get further than the quarter finals. I won't be surprised if they don't make it this year, but they defenitly deserve it.

just a bit of good news (as far as i'm concerned) you may remember a month or 2 ago that Sol Davis, the Luton full-back suffered a stroke on the way to the game with Ipswich, which we subsequently lost 5-0.
However, after some time in hospital, and estimates that if he were able to come back it would take at least 6 month, Sol has returned to training and completed a full session with the team this week.
glad to see him making a speedy recovery

Just seen an after match interview with stuart pearce, obviously upset his Man City got beat 3-1 by Manyoo, but more interesting was when the interviewer asked his opinion on Corradi's 2nd yellow for diving. Pearce said 'absolutely fantastic decision, and Ill be having a word with him this week about staying on his feet'.
Now that is what we need more of if football is ever going to stamp out diving and cheating.

An honourable mention goes a Mattie Taylor of Portsmouth for his stunning volley against Everton. I've seen people lob goalkeepers from that distance, and I've seen Ivan Campo score from a similar length with a daisy cutter, but I've never seen anyone strike one on the volley from that far out. Don't panic old chap I just heard on radio 5 from none other than Svens agent that he will NOT be joining The Hammers.
So Pards gets the order of the boot. Yet another decent, hard working guy stabbed in the back due to the lack of application from the boys on the business side of the touchline.
Perhaps if messrs Reo Coker, Harewood and Zamora had shown the same enthusiasm on the park as they clearly do in various gents outfitters and trendy London fleshpots we'd be a lot higher in the table and Pardew would still have a job to go to.
I'm not alone in my opinion either. I've just come from the unofficial Hammers forum and the place is seething with rage at the new owners and awash with sympathy for Pardew who is widely perceived as being let down by his players.
Well it's Man u at home next week and I guarantee you that most if not all of the 2 bob lightweights and show ponies that have disgraced the shirt recently will give the performance of their lives as they bask in the limelight which the so called "glamour fixtures" bring.
A well it's a fait accompli now so who next for the poisoned chalice.?
For me I can't see beyond Alan Curbishly, a local boy and ex hammer (sadly I'm old enough to have seen him in his pomp :( ) a well respected tactician and man manager who worked wonders at Charlton on a limited budget and a pretty mediocre set of players TBH.
Some of the boys are talking up Terry Venables on the website. Again a good choice but may prove unpopular with a section of the fans due to his "Spuds" connection.
As far as I'm concerned as long as the new incumbent turns us round and makes a few decent signings in the January window I dont mind who gets it.
Arsene Wenger being the honourable exception ;) Blimey I've just gone all cold :(

I was sad to see Pardew go. Clubs need to realise that success is built on stability, not replacing the manager every time you have a bad patch. There were even some Liverpool fans calling for Benitez's head after Liverpool's poor start. If Alex Ferguson had started out at Man Utd in the current climate, he'd have been sacked before he'd won his first trophy.

Can't say I am excited by the prospect of Curbishley being the guv'nor. I'm not convinced he has got the pedigree to actually take an average club forward. He never did it at Charlton. At least AP had a vision - it's just a pity that the players thought that last years success meant that they can rest easy this year. How wrong they are being proved.
I never believe players or managers when they rule themselves out of a potential transfer or appointment to management. Sven can rule himself out all he likes but I bet he still gets a phone call from Egg!

As someone who has always liked West Ham (wee apart from Bowyer) I hope they get out of this mess soon. Tevez has been working hard IMO.

I dont think anyone would notice Pino, he was on the bench so often the other players called him "The Judge" :p
Looks like Curbisley is a racing cert to get the gig.
Good choice IMHO.
East End boy born in Canning town, came through the Hammers youth team to become one of the finest players to wear the shirt.
He's got the club in his blood and will have the fans backing which is a massive bonus for a new boss.
Let's not forget that when he took over Charlton they were a division 2 outfit with no ground and no prospects and he somehow managed to turn them into a more than useful Premiership outfit until lack of ambition from the Charlton board brought about their current plight.
Anyway let's hope that the board give the guy a decent crack of the whip with a few bob to spend on players come the January sales.
PS If the board hadn't got rid of Harry none of this would have happened.

Disgusted Pards was sacked. The WHUFC board had the nerve to sack the manager after one or two mildly bad results when one or two teams last season in the Premiership were close to going the whole season without seeing a win. West Ham's new owner should think himself luck the run wasn't longer.

Trust me I can trump the 11 in 17 with no bother at all.
Have a guess at which team from the 05-06 season in their first 17 (which began ironically in more than one way at home to Chartlon and ended away to Charlton), got a grand total of 5 points?
*The five points in the first 17 coming in a win over Middlesbrough (the winner scored by a player now at Boro), and home draws against WBA and ironically West Ham.
* And also that team got 0 points from an available 12 in both August and November, got 4 from an available 9 in September, got 1 from an available 13 in October and got no points in the final 2 games of the 17 at the start of December.

Remember when Mick McCarthy was sacked? It wasn't till March that he was sacked because caretaker manager Kevin Ball did the final 10 games whic counting 10 games from Aston Villa (A) on the final day takes you to Bolton (A) on March 18.
Whereas Mick McCarthy's tenure can be best remembered for losing to Brentford in the FA Cup, Bally's tenure can best be remembered for going to Old Trafford and frustrating 50k+ fans with a 0-0 draw. OK, we got relegated, but this fan knew on Matchday 1 of the 05-06 season it was a case of when and not if we got relegated. That is how different Ball was to McCarthy.
Plase, don't anyone tell me Alan Pardew deserved to go any sooner than Mick McCarthy because the form of West Ham this season can be compared to the form of Sunderland last season.

Liverpool 3-0 Bolton (Apparently Liverpool were awesome in the second half, really need this form away from home)
Chelsea and Arsenal play tomorrow.
Wolves win!!! Wolves 2-0 Barnsley :D one point off 5th place, and the play-offs, hope we can keep ourselves up there. The scum lost to Southend

I must admit to laughing out loud when I read that story. Absolutely furious we got beat in such a way by Arsenal. We were far better for the first half an hour and the last half an hour, but were seriously let down by not creating enough clear cut chances, poor defending, and absolutely shocking goalkeeping by Dudek.
Dudek, Crouch and Garcia should not have been on the pitch.
Went the the Manyoo Villa game yesterday at Old Trafford, was a great day out, even if I was sick half way there due to a bad hangover and two hours sleep, but was a fairly good game. Was massively impressed with the stadium, but very very let down by the atmosphere.

Just got back from the pub watching Manyoo V Arse. Pretty good game, the first half was a bit fiery and looked as though someone was going to end up getting sent off. Didnt happen though. Both sides played some decent attacking football, Man United had more of an end product to begin with and Arsenal looked quiet up front, especially Henry. The game came to life though in the second half and it finished 2-1 to Arsenal, the winning goal almost 4 minutes into injury time.
Rooney scored for Manyoo, whilst Van Persie and Henry scored for Arse.

Great game. But Ronaldo was up to his old tricks again, winning a penalty with a blatant dive.

Seems a lot more interesting in La Liga than in the Premiership at the moment. At least some credit though to Boro and Everton for holding the "bigger" teams Arsenal and Liverpool respectively.
Benitez has shown himself to be a complete plank though with his comments about Everton, only fuelling my dislike for Liverpool even further. In the 1980's Everton and Liverpool were level, and they could be again if it wasn't for Liverpool having more money to play with. He needs to look at his own team before bemoaning others, when actually they played well and had the best chance of the match!

Everton actually ARE a smaller club compared to Liverpool. Since the days of Kendall as manager they've won no trophies; aren't playing in Europe. Last season they only narrowly avoided relegation last year.
It's akin to Sir Alex calling Man City a small club, or Preston North End calling Blackpool a small club.
Somehow we just expect more of a Liverpool manager.
Well why? Huh? The same sorts of comments have been made for the past 50 years. Bill Shankly is well known for his anti-Everton comments. It's just one of those things that is.
Compare Shankly's comment of 1968
What can you do, playing against eleven goalposts?
With Rafa's comment of 2007
Playing against a small team, it is not easy when they have nine men behind the ball. One team wanted to win while one team came not to lose.
Yes, Rafa's remarks upset the Blues. Wyness had a tantrum in the directors box while Bill Kenwright threw his toys out of his pram, very literally. The Echo reported that he had to be exported out of the ground for fear of throwing things at the officials.
Is someone having a cry? :waah:

It was a pretty derogatory way of saying things from Benitez though - typical foreign manager whinging. A team goes to Anfield and gets a draw and almost nicks it - he just says they stuck 9 men behind the ball and are a small club. To me, thats pathetic and shows a lack of respect. It also incites violence, so he'd better be careful. The so called "friendly derby" - what a load of rubbish. I know many Evertonians and they all hate Liverpool! Whereas most Liverpool "fans" I meet are actually from London or Ireland and have never been to a match.
England = pathetic as well. Steve McClaren:
"I'm not making excuses...but were half a team short"
Thats a bloody big excuse McClaren, quit with the cliches and sort them out. Lampard and Gerrard can not play together - HOW MANY TIMES!!!

Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are famous for making these sorts of inflammatory comments, which often help to create something of a seige mentality within their respective squads. It's nothing new, and has nothing to do with Benitez being foreign.

Well it was a good game for the first ten minutes, just a shame England didn't bother playing for the other 80
I heard an interview with Gary Neville on the radio today saying how disappointed he and the rest of the team were that the England team were booed off the pitch. Well Gary, if you give the fans something to cheer, you know like producing more than two sodding shots on target in a whole match, then you might find the fans' reaction a little different.
Good to see that McLaren learnt so much from Sven. Took by far the best player on the pitch in the first half, Steve Gerrard, off at half time and then followed up by taking the 2nd best off, Wright-Phillips, off shortly after the restart
Just one more thing, Motty made a remark about the ticket prices being reasonable at Old Trafford last night, with £40 being the top price for the best seat in the house. Well if I'd been there last night I'd be asking for a refund. £40? I wouldn't pay 40p to go and watch them at the moment.

Went to St James's Park for the Newcastle v Liverpool match today. We should have had the game wrapped up by half time, but many of our players (Kuyt in particular), were guilty of missing gilt-edged chances. In the second half, Newcastle looked a better side and took the victory, and we were left to rue our first half profligacy in front of goal.

I have nothing against West Ham, in fact in previous seasons didn't much care much if they perform good or bad, but all sports channels I get on cable TV are from Argentina(and all of them in love with Tevez and Riquelme), and when Tevez went there, they suddenly started to care about West Ham and even showed their games instead of Chelsea, Manchester U or Arsenal ones, and went all day with "Tevez is gonna make West Ham a big team in Europe" "West Ham this... West Ham that...", so basically I'm fed up with West Ham thanks to the Argentine press, so sorry Oily but I'm a bit happy they're going down

Having seen the Arsenal - Wigan game today, I was very surprised at Terry Henry's unprofessional behaviour towards Chris Kirkland when they equalised. If Wigan were timewasting, then it wasn't anything Jens Lehman hadn't done before was it? The ref had a shocker as well, clearcut penalty for Wigan when Heskey was fouled by Flamini (I think it was him?) and nothing given. Think the ref and Arsene "I didn't see it" Wenger need a visit to SpecSavers ASAP. :p :

Indeedy yes. They had it after 98 and held it right through the 2000 Euro tourney when they won that too.
In news from the Antipodes, the 2nd A-League final was held tonight. Melbourne ripped apart Adelaide with a 6-0 victory. Archie Thompson scored 5 of those by himself.

Come on Liverpool!! They did have a bit of a scare in the first half, Barca played well and took advantage of them sitting back, but in the second half, Liverpool were brilliant, and took advantage of Barca sitting back by scoring a winner. :D i think thats the tie in the bag for the pool, i cant see them losing at Anfield!
More annoyance for England, JT gonna be out for a while probably with another injury, ankle ligaments apparently. Meanwhile, Valencia on top after a 2-2 draw with Inter, and no idea who is gonna win out of Roma and Lyon, quite a dull affair by the sounds of it tonight in Italy.
On Last nights results, Man Utd werent at their best, and were probably lucky to win the game, Lille's Odemwingie scored a perfectly legitimate goal, only to have it disallowed for pushing vidic. The goal by Giggs however was fair, referee asked if he wanted it quick, and giggs said yes, so ref walked away to allow it to be taken. BUT Lille have put in a official complaint about the goal to UEFA, very surprised about it considering they nearly walked off!!
and finally....... Beckham for england!! i have to say i was one of them writing him off and thinking Mclaren had made the right decision, but he has been brilliant at Madrid recently, especially last night against bayern, he deserves another chance to prove his worth. Carling Cup Final:
Arsenal 1 (Walcott) Chelsea 2 (Drogba 2)
A quite unbelieveable game, full of incident, including 3 sendings off. Walcott finally made his impression on the world in this game, had a fine game, and socred a fine goal  but it was drogba who came out on tops, scoring two, and looking dangerous all the time. Chelsea probably deserved to win it in the end, after Shevchenko and Lampard hit the woodwork, but credit has to go to Arsenal kids, yes, he played his reserve team for this cup final, and they stood up comfortably to the challenge, and almost won it as well on the basis of the first half.
