So. Two of the classic circuits back to back. Not half bad.
The weather appears to be set quite fair for the upcoming weekend. Plenty of Sun.
So let the slipstreaming fun begin. :)

I think its close to call.
Red Bull and Mclaren will have fast cars and Fernando will be up there too.
Alonso will surely be lifted by the mass crowd and I fancy he might come out on top.

I'm certain that this whole Hamilton-to-Mercedes-or-not thing will not help Lewis. I remember in '07 when he would not talk to anybody during his season. Full concentration on his racing and zero distractions. His dad was constantly there to guide him.
I would be impressed if he won here. All i can say for sure is that Alonso will do well.

Looks like Schumacher's transmission will not get replaced. They were allowed to fix it. That will save him some grid spots...

Well it's Italy, and Marinello will have some magic power this weekend on their car,so I expect Alonso to be top step on the podium ,BUT I would really love to see the Vodafone car of Hamilton there, and him on the top step,McLaren have to convince Hamilton that they can supply him with a winning car too ,as I do believe he is serious about going to the German car maker !

Schumacher looking good in FP1. If he was to score another pole position this year, I guess this would be the most likely race in which he would do it. Fingers crossed for the old man.

Good thing Alonso's gearbox was a "Friday only" unit, so no worries about a penalty. I'm thinking that he'll have something to say about the running order tomorrow during the final practice! Only .060 away from H.A.M.

The upside of Fred's early exit at Spa, and LH as well (not that the Boss needed it) Is that everyone chose to take new lumps at Spa. I also expect the contenders to use new ones in Monza. But Fred retiring for the first time this season and on the first lap means he has that one in the bank and he may not have to bust it out again until Austin.
I fully expect the Boss to win this race!

Even with Alonso not putting in a serious lap in Q3, he still had the fastest S3 time of all qualifying and was faster than Massa in every sector. I suspect Alonso would have been on pole as well.

He can still do it. I'm hoping for tire deg issues for Macca and Vettel high speed woes. Massa could prove instrumental in helping Alonso get to the front. Alonso's an animal as it is, so hoping for a great showing. Gonna be an all-qualifying-laps race for him tomorrow....

I predict one of the most boring races of the season: Tyres will last well, strategy will be one stop for everybody and since the race is so short and the way the circuit is, it's really hard to come from the midfield to the front.

Oh, i beg to differ. McLaren has had races with the same tires provided tomorrow that went either way. On some they have lasted well, on others they have faded prematurely. Also, Monza's surface is fairly abrasive, so tire deg will play a role. Ferrari has an engine that pushes high speed well here, so to get past all the Renault engines might not be too difficult. For Ferrari to get past the Mercedes might be a different story, since they are also very strong. Not sure if everyone will do a one stopper. I'm sure we'll see a mix of one to two stops. Should be a good race. Ferrari will push hard. Perhaps Massa will challenge for the win? It would be good for Alonso, if Massa could win one.

drive through Vettel :p
After what happened in Bahrain, the rules clearly state that once a driver has put his front wing next to your back wheels, you must leave room for him - which Vettel obviously didn't do, as was clearly visible on Alonso's onboard camera, so from that point of view, the drive through was clearly deserved. However, I'm afraid that same penalty might not have been handed out if they hadn't been racing at Italy.

We're grateful that you came and pointed that out. Late, or not. What's also visible from Alonso's onboard cam is that Vettel took a left just in front of Alonso. Just a desperate attempt at saving face right before The Man nullifies Vettels spectacular move from last year. Great call by the stewards.

Brilliant Perez again!
Happy to see Hamilton win.
Still think this is Alonso's year (but I thought it was Jenson's in the first few races) - I really want Hamilton to take the title, but Alonso just deserves it for what he's done this year, and the last few actually. If Seb can win 2, then Alonso definitely is due another title.
Why does Schumacher have to retire? I think he's on terms with Rosberg now, only slightly off his pace this time. Maybe he feels there isn't much more to gain.

Penalty on Vettel was really harsh
Alonso was far too optimistic even though he had great run on the outside he wasn't alongside Vettel enough whereas last year Vettel & Alonso where more wheel to wheel through Curve Grande.
It seems fine to push a guy off the track at corner exit on other circuits but not Monza.

As I said, his front wing was already right to the left of Seb's wheels. Considering that, I wouldn't say that Alo was too optimistic - Vettel had to leave room for him, as I previously pointed out. He didn't, and that's why he got the penalty, which might have been a bit too harsh, but it was certainly on the rules and it was pretty much a black or white call.

A good race, but after hearing the racist chants Lewis received from the crowd, I think its about time the FIA try and stamp out racism from spectating fans. Its not the first time Monza has come under fire and considering such a good job has been done at Spanish circuits, I think its about time this sort of behavior was stamped out.
Agree completely.
I was a bit unsure and possibly nieve at the time. I wasn't sure if it was booing at Mclaren for beating Ferrari or Lewis beacuse of the history with Alonso or just nasty racist chanting.
If it was racist it is sad, but something needs to be done. As much as I love Monza the race may be under threat if this is the kind of behaviour we are going to see there.
You can't hold races where this still goes on.

Obviously, it depends who you ask, if you ask me, then a big yes is my answer.
First a couple of things:
a) Both incidents were very, very wrong.
b) Both should not have happened.
I see a big difference between taunting you, disliking you, or being a rude jerk because of your nationality, gender or ethnicity, and taunting you, disliking you, or being a rude jerk because you are one of the biggest jerks in the world.
Both MS and LH can appear to be jerks to many, if you dislike them because they are jerks, well, what can you do, but if you dislike one of the two because of his skin color, and instead of calling him a big jerk, or a cry baby, you use racial slurs or make monkey noises, or throw bananas, then you should stop something like that completely.
Let me use a fictitious example, if someone tells me that he/she dislikes you because you are an American, or because you are white, I would find that very, very wrong, if someone tells me that he/she dislikes you because you are a jerk, well, that is very different.

Reading elsewhere, Hamilton had to end his interview with Lauda early because of monkey noises coming from the crowd underneath. Moments before he had be waving to the crowd and said 'Ciao tutti' to the tifosi, but even this gesture was ignored. He's not liked and thank goodness this doesn't occur at every race, certainly not ones I have attended. I think something needs to be done about this without punishing the thousands of fans who are good sports at Monza.
Is that racism or a reference to Hamilton's comment about "monkeys at the back" from Monaco '07? Those sorts of comments have a way of coming back to haunt people. It may have been racially motivated and should be condemned if it is but I wouldn't pull the racism card just becuase the crowd booed.
Hamilton isn't liked by Ferrari fans, that's true. He drives for McLaren, beat Ferrari to the WDC in '08 and had an acrimonious relationship with Ferrari's current No. 1. That's enough reason to boo the guy if you're a Tifosi. The McLaren part alone is enough to get most Tifosi riled up.

I have no idea of the reasons behind it, I wasn't there to witness it first hand. Its a bit of a strange link if that is true and why a joke holds such reference after so many years is lost on me. I don't remember David Coulthard getting monkey chants for using the same terminology.
Whatever the reasons, it just shows F1 fans are less mature than we expect. You see this sort of thing on football terraces, but IMO F1 attracts a different type of fan and thankfully I haven't witnessed such behaviour in the races I have attended.
For the most part I haven't either. I do remember being at Silverstone in 97 by club corner and some British fans doing Nazi signs as Schumacher went past but I have rarely seen behavior like this in F1. People like these guys are idiots and, thankfully, very rare.

Well, apart from Hamilton taking command of the race, just how was it a snoozefest? I would love to know what race you were watching or did the late summer sun make you go sleepy?
Alonso came from 10th to podium and did his overtaking on the track.
