Triple century for the old boy. Spa should be quite special for him.

He will qualify in 7th, his clutch will burn out at the start, then he will announce his retirement.........

It would be a fairy tail of the highest order if he could achieve the first win since his comeback at the track which seems indelibly woven into his personal history. Sadly I forsee an anonymous run to - at most - a couple of points. I look forward to being proved wrong!

How many starts has Rubens got ?
Expect the shoe around at least long enough to take that record as well .

322 to Schuey's 298 (source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_One_driver_records#Total_starts)) so he'll need another full season - by no means impossible.

(Note that this is starts, not entries, otherwise it's 326-299)

PS, that page raises the question of whether Michael (or anybody else) will ever beat Louis Chiron's record! :p

Hopefully, 300th GPs have a pattern of going well, unlike 100th GPs which mostly seem to be disastrous...

Let's see all the other 300th GPs to see if there's any pattern!

*Checks*

OooooooooooooK there's just the one... So how did Rubens do anyway?

I can't believe we've got to 300 without this...

THIS IS SCHUMI!

Congratulations to him, I feel as though that in his near-300 starts that he has impressed many and has contributed to the popularity and challenge in F1. :D

It's a sign of the times, and of the number of races in a season, that we see these kind of achievements.

It was back in 1986 that Jacques Laffite matched Graham Hill's record of 176 starts. At that time no one had approached 200. Now we have Schumi joining Rubens in the 300s.

To remain in F1 for as long as Schumi has takes extraordinary commitment, and the ability to maintain a performance level that is valued by a team. It doesn't happen by mistake or luck.

Well done to Schumi.

He has been good today, just a shame Mercedes eats tyres otherwise a podium was possible after all those issues.

Great Stuff

Rubens got there first though :p :

oh, and Schumi must have felt nostalgic as another Finn blitzed past him around Eau Rouge ala 2000.

Looking at the source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_One_driver_records#Total_starts) that Dve B quoted, I notice none of the top 10 have managed to start all the grands prix they entered. Which leads me to wonder, who's managed to enter the most grands prix with no DNS?

Prop's to Mike, if nothing else it is a testament of his commitment to physical fitness and the dividends it pays if you get in shape, and stay in shape. I don't think that should be overlooked. As for his talent his record speaks for itself.

To answer my own question - looks like the record for most entries without a DNS is Gerhard Berger with 210. Next best is Schumi's old chum Eddie Irvine with 148. Of the current drivers, it's Nico Rosberg - Schumi's current team-mate of course - with 119. Sorry for the diversion!
