When I'm looking into the entry lists I think it deserves to make separate thread for this event this year. Many many Scandinavian, Polish, German and other crews on the lists.

The rally takes place next weekend on a large area from Mladá Boleslav north to Liberec. It's stages are considered to be the best of the Czech championship (more for drivers than for spectators though). They are not so rough and more technical than usual especially in the north.

Let's start with the international event. There we can expect huge battle between Hänninen, Ostberg, Kopecký with other fast guys like Kresta, Pech, Tarabus, Valoušek, Barrable... Gr.N is pretty much standard for Czech events (very good standard I would say) with few additions like Swiss Urs Huzinker. But a big battle can be expected in 2WD with names Černý, Chentre, Tidemand, Brynda, Triner, Peták, Canal-Robles, Vrkoslav, Smékal, Kristiansen...

Full entry list is here: http://www.rallybohemia.cz/2012/docs/RB_2012_Entry_List_EP.pdf

Supplementary regulations: http://www.rallybohemia.cz/2012/docs/RB_2012_Supplementary_Regulations_EN.pdf

Only 16 crews are entered under Deutsche rally series but still something to watch with Maik Stolzel in Porsche or Karel Trněný in Fabia WRC.

Entry list: http://www.rallybohemia.cz/2012/docs/RB_2012_Entry_List_DRS.pdf

During first leg after the main entry field there will be a Historic show which means a lot of historic cars going through without timekeeping. Here we can find many interesting names and cars like Harald Demuth (Audi 80 Quattro), Jimmy McRae (Kadett GT-E Coupé 16V), Jiří Navrátil (Sierra Cosworth) and many others.

Full entry list: http://www.rallybohemia.cz/2012/docs/RB_2012_Entry_List_HS.pdf

During the second leg there is another addition called Rally Bohemia Open which is held on same stages but even WRC or outdated cars can start there. Here we can find Tomáš Kostka (don't know why he's doing only one leg), Jiří Navrátil (to continue with historic Sierra even second day under another competition which allows his car).

Thanks for the post, Mirek. I am going to Rally Bohemia this year and all the links are very useful. You write, that the stages are more for the drivers than for spectators. Why? Is it hard to get to the stages - or is it difficult to find good spots?

Mirek
8th July 2012, 14:59
I meant in comparison with other Czech events. There are generally less access points due to more difficult terrain and also more strict organization. But sure You can find nice places. I have to admit I haven't started my planning yet...

Having watched some of the videos from the Czech championship I am really looking forward to the rally. Is there any 'must-see' stages/places?

The most famous place of the rally is Návarov valley with its narrow bridge with wooden floor. The only problem is that it's not so easy to reach. Either by walking from nearest crossroads or by little train stopping directly down the valley :)

You can have a look on the street view. It's for hairpin lowers but not bad at all even though I prefer opposite direction.
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=N%C3%A1varov,+Zlat%C3%A1+Ole%C5%A1nice,+%C4 %8Cesk%C3%A1+republika&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=50.678805,15.318203&spn=0.00603,0.016512&sll=-6.182938,106.915632&sspn=0.037674,0.066047&oq=navarov&hnear=Zlat%C3%A1+Ole%C5%A1nice-N%C3%A1varov,+Czech+Republic&t=m&z=17

Later I will post some video but now I'm at work with no access to youtube...

By the way use google street view to check roads around possible access roads. Since last year google made a huge work and now covers a lot of roads here. It's very very useful!

Thank you very much. I have watched some of the stages onboard at the Bohemian Rally homepage and I have also noticed the many hairpins. I will try to see if the Navarov can fit into our plans - using a train to access a rally stage will be a new adventure in itself :)

Weather forecast says we will have a difficult rally for tyres. Seems like it will be around 20 degrees all rally, mostly cloudy with some showers especially during Saturday.

is it the speed that is the problem, or is it bad maintance of roads? it seems that armcobarriers has been deathtraps instead of safety.

I don't know. I could not see into the corner although I was just hundred meters before. I even didn't hear anything of Juho so I noticed he is so close from me only when guys from Škoda went there to get the car back on the road (it was fully drivable). Sure Pech's car seemed to have strange sound and he was looking very slow in SS1.

Kopáček and some German guy in Lada VFTS crashed in same corner as Juho.

Indeed a very sad couple of weeks for rallying! But it shouldnt come as a surprise that it is dangerous to drive a rallycar in speeds up to or above 200 km/h among trees, rocks and other obstacles. In fact rallying, the worlds greatest sport is also one of the most dangerous, statistically. I did some research in 2009, a very grave year for rallying world-wide. It could actually have been more (because in some countries rally acident happens that you seldom hear about), but there was at least 13 fatalities in 2009. Which actually made rallying the second most dangerous sport that year, only "beaten" by base jumping. 2012 is turning into another annus horribilis for the sport...

Yes, You are right. Asphalt is sure more dangerous surface but that's how it is. We don't have gravel stages so we drive on asphalt...

My deepest condolences to Ceplecha's family, friends and Semerad family. Strenght to all, especially Martin, during these difficult times. Upřímnou soustrast.

This really hit me hard even though I didn't personally knew Ceplecha. But since I started to follow Czech rallying ca. 2007, I always had a really positive image about him - cool, calm and easygoing guy who was precise with the notes - last time I even commented it here in the forum after Hustopece onboard... One of the first Czech onboards I watched was his and Josef's crash in 2007 Jänner. It feels so sad to see DOD in ewrc-results. :(

Besides in this video we can see what happend with car, it's totally destroyed.

The most horiffic thing is that there was a guy in there who after witnessing such a huge crash went to record the aftermath instead of leaving everything and go to see if he could help somehow or call for a marshal... Lowlife garbage

To record the crash is another story and is understandable and most of times is very helpful to see what went wrong... to keep recording after seing the car turn into a pile of debris is just inhumane...

A human tragedy must not be used for enrichment

To write this declaration - or however we would call it - I was brought by today's article in the internet edition of the daily press Blesk. In the article there is a video of the moments just after the accident of the crew Semerád-Ceplecha in which Bohuslav Ceplecha unfortunately died.

Even though the motorsport is often cruel and takes the highest toll in lives of drivers, co-drivers or spectators I can't find a name for people who are able to make profit of such tragedies.

Those who take photos or videos of the injured or dead in purpose to sell the materials to the sensetional media and those who publish them without any sign of respect to the families, relatives and friends of the dead deserve maximum contempt.

I can't stand such behavior both in ethical and moral way. I just hope that the God's mills really grind (used different Czech proverb with similar meaning).

Who has the same opinion as me, please, sign below. You can use either your name or nickname so that the hyens know we are not indifferent.
