Not a lot to say about practice: Grosjean fastest this morning in a wet session, and now 20 minutes into FP2 only Senna has set a time (2m10.215) as it's pouring down. I feel desperately sorry for the thousands who have made the effort to get there in this weather only to be greeted by an empty track. The FIA need to look at increasing the wet & inter tyre allocation for situations like this, all the teams are preserving tyres as they'll probably need them for the race. Ah well, back to the tennis...

It's a real shame, we went to qualifying last year and the setup was great, we were in and out of the car parks in no time. I suppose this is what happens when 80,000 people turn up for the practice day - how many circuits can't even get that on a Sunday??

Exactly, it was the right decision IMO.
The problem being most teams chose to set up for a dry qualifying and we ended up having a big downpour. Its hardly surprising they couldn't stay on the track.
They can change their set-ups now, can't they? Now, whether they will do that is quite a different question - which weather is expected for the race?

Probably not on a statistical basis. Thats why big sporting events that rely on dry weather tend to be held now like Wimbledon.

From what I've seen on the news today Silverstone has escaped quite lightly, parts of the westcountry have experienced flooding and a few weeks ago the north-east was lashed by heavy storms. It's all a bit messed up this year!

No I think it was OK, but that last 2 or 3 minutes it got too dangerous. The right decision was made.

I think today's qualifying proves that there is no such thing as a regenmeister, at least not in this time. Hamilton and Vettel didn't really do all that great when they should have, and Alonso, who took pole, was this close from destroying his car in Q2. I wonder what Senna (the fast one, that is) might have done in these conditions.

The top 3 did good, I think most guys did good laps on inters and kept improving, lets see how the race goes, but frankly schumacher and senna held their own in their time, no matter what kind of car they were in, perhaps aerodynamics still makes a bit more difference compared to back then.

Ugh, couldn't post earlier. And saw only until red flag. Heartbreaking to see Pérez at the bottom of Q2 after he was leading at the red flag and Sauber had been going well throughout the first half of qualifying. :( They were my tip for podium - very suitable circuit and conditions (wet, cool) as well. Oh why oh why does it usually need to go so wrong for them. Vergne was flying in the beginning in full wet conditions as well - he ended up nowhere. What a pity.

Wow, the image of Grosjean beached in the gravel brought back memories of what F1 USED to be like. And with the Valencia race actually having retirements, it feels like a blast from the past (when I truly loved F1 :) ).

Not me.. what a lap!..very controlled, neat, tidy and not overdriven on the limit. Looks like the Ferrari have made good progress or the car is simply very well suited to wet conditions on intermediates and they have opted for a wet set-up.

Alonso has been outstanding so far this season and thoroughly deserves to be leading the WDC, great stuff!

Sauber is frustrating. They clearly had a quick car this weekend, but again it was wasted both in qualifying and in the race. Strategies, collisions, mistakes, general inconsistency... Williams also lost good points – Maldonado seemed to have pace for a top6 finish.

Initially Grosjean’s race seemed to go wrong too, but he seems to be a master of tyre management in current era. Again he managed to stretch his stints very long and emerged in Top6. Without that incident in the beginning perhaps could have finished on podium?

Silverstone has suited Webber for many years already – second win there too! Alonso did, what he could and Massa seems to be in good form now as well. Ferrari is really fast now and Alonso is hard to catch in the championship.

What else? McLaren’s keeps moving on a downward spiral. Now they seem to struggle regardless of conditions – hot or cold. Only 4th in WCC, even behind Ferrari and Lotus! Who would have thought that in the beginning of the season!

Hats off to the fans in Silverstone. it was a great race and a nice gesture from Sir Jackie and you nice folks who endured the dreadful weekend fully deserved it. P/s: it's high time to take a hard look at the Woking teams' performance as a whole.

Some Thoughts:

1.Sad for Sergio Perez who was on provisional pole, gets bumped well down the grid, then taken out by Maldonado to boot.

2.I'm maybe thinking Maldonado needs another ban. Was very telling when Perez said it's not just his list of collisions, but that he just doesn't have any respect.

3.People talk about how Rosberg is running rings around Michael, but Michael was 28sec ahead today and scored a fastest lap over half a sec quicker! Michael has actually done this quite often but not got the credit for it. The only time Rosberg has been convincingly quicker this year was China.

4.Congratulations to Romain Grosjean for finishing 6th, 7sec behind his team-mate and just 17sec off the win - and this from the back of the field after lap 1... I thought he could surprise and edge Kimi this year, but I didn't imagine it would be like this.

5.Senna is again behind Maldonado, which is a concern... Because I like him.

6.Though he's like a human puppy, Massa actually seems to be quite a fighter. He hasn't just given in and wilted like other drivers would (Hello Fisi!) but has kept fighting and is growing stronger. He needs to to save his career. Felipe is reminding me very much of Heinz-Harald Frentzen in 1998 - he went on to enjoy a renassiance with Jordan after, and Felipe can do the same with the team he joins next year.

7.One more, has anybody noticed that the Marussia's set pretty good fastest laps, both faster than Kovalainen and +1.3sec off McLarens?
Glock was about +2.8sec off fastest lap (set by Kimi!) with Pic and Kovalainen about +3.4sec off.

Well, for Williams a win is worth far more than 25 points, but I have to agree that Pastor is becoming very dangerous. It's a joke right now, every race it's another silly move. I think that a race ban would be very healthy for him. I am sure that after it he will return smarter and better.

I think he is set up for a race ban; a third reprimand will equal a cumulative penalty IMO. As for this incident it was not particularly egregious, but his explanation for it is weak. Autosport has quoted him as saying that his DRS was deployed when he left the pit, but it clearly was not open when they showed the events leading up to the accident. This may have contributed to particularly cold tires, but that is information an elite racer should be able to process in real time.

I'd say it was a racing incident.

I think the Stewards got it right but I'm not sure why he got a fine. "Pastor, you're guilty, sort of."

Reprimand - whatever that is, hopefully it means the stewards are sick at the sight of him and don't want to see him again or else...

You must really hate Pastor after he showed Hamilton that pushing him off the track will not end well to Hamilton.
