Qualifications for this race will be different than the single car qualification runs that are traditionally done. The starting grid will be determined by short heat races. The breakdown is below..

There will be 3 heat races with 30 laps each. These heat races are determined by combined practice session results.

Race 1 - Determines the even numbered positions, starting from the 10th quickest practice time to determine Positions 10 on the starting grid on down.

Race 2 - Determines the odd numbered positions starting from the 9th quickest practice time to determine Positions 9 on the starting grid on down.

Race 3 - This will consist of drivers that are 1st to 8th quickest in practice times. This race will determine the first 4 starting rows. Winner of this race is the pole sitter.

Well, I'm pissed. Apparently my 6 hours of indycar racing I set to record was interfering with my daughters ability to watch TV while my son and I were at a Lacrosse game in Annapolis Saturday evening. I get home around 11:30, hit the DVR to watch the heat races before I hit the sack and nuthin. No qualifying, No heat races, no race. WTF?? Luckily it was still on thanks to the rain delay, so I missed about 90 laps. I've said it before, but dang I love short oval racing!
You can have the 1.5's but that's just damn good racing!

I spent both days at the track. I did not see any TV coverage, so I came away with a few questions I wonder if anyone had thoughts on? What were the driver's impressions (and yours) of the qualifying heats? It was great to see the cars race on both days, although would have like to see a little more competition on Friday. What is going on with Honda engines, given the number of changes and Dario's blow up? Can anyone shed more light on Will Power's incident? He looked out of sorts when I spoke with him on Friday. Did it seem like Sato had his wings clipped? He showed little speed in comparison to other races. Yes, I agree about the start time. Poor Indy Lights got rescheduled until after the Indycar race, so starting time was after midnight central time. Finally, big crowd, as usual, who were very excited to both the Friday qualifying and races on Saturday, despite a much needed but badly timed rain!
