It might be worth getting there well before the first race as the car parks could be quite a mud bath at the start of the day, let alone at the end!
So Andy Jordan is on pole after a dramatic qualifying session, where Plato crashed at Church corner amongst other things!
Jordan takes pole as mixed conditions make for a dramatic BTCC qualifying session at Thruxton - BTCC news - AUTOSPORT.com (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/99223)
Should be a great days racing with a mixed grid, best dig out the water proofs!

Amateur hour from the recovery truck drivers again
On the plus side, Toby Moody has gone up in my expectations for using the phrase "as wet as an otter's pocket" :D

It's really pathetic isn't it. Why did the truck go on the grass?

Red flag because the recovery truck gets stuck in mud.

Indeed. Why is this deemed acceptable? We see this sort of thing time and time again.
By contrast, I thought all the BTCC drivers behaved themselves splendidly in appalling conditions. The incident that put Jordan out was clearly no-one's fault, and Jackson drove very well indeed to win. It was noticeable, though, that the BMWs were suffering exactly the same problems in maintaining the pace in those conditions as they have everywhere else. Word of praise to Ollie Jackson for a steady run in the points.

I have now realised whose equally strange inflection Toby Moody seems to emulate — Robert Peston, the BBC economics editor. Most odd.

It is rather odd. I may be judging too soon but he doesn't seem to be anywhere near as annoying today as he usually is.

I think he's much better in the Porsche races, perhaps because there's less opportunity to get excited.

Was that a race without any unnecessary contact? If so, well done to all. Shedden seems to be stamping his authority on the Honda team; Neal by comparison was anonymous until near the end. A great drive by Wrathall as well — had there been another lap, he would surely have been third. And this may be rash, but I'm willing to predict that we won't see another BMW victory this season.
Great to see Murray Walker on the ITV coverage there, reminding Steve Rider of Rider's opposition to live BTCC coverage when they were both with the BBC!

I usually like wet races, but think it's ruined the day slightly here, so I'm glad it's drying out a bit. Shedden is the best driver on the current grid in my opinion. Extremely quick over a single lap and he seems to have cleaned up his act a lot with regards to contact.
I expect the BMWs to be quick at Oulton and Croft as usual, they're hunting for the sweet spot on setup at the moment. Quite a lot of crew changes in that team as well (the whole crew from Turkington and Jelley's cars in 09 have left), so maybe they're taking time to gel and get the car working the way the driver wants it.

Indeed. Thruxton is never a particularly good circuit at which to have a full wet race, in my view. It rarely produces the excitement seen at, for instance, Donington.

Could be. I have been of the view that there seems to be something more fundamental with the car, given how all three drivers seem to be affected in the same way. Whatever, Collard is driving superbly again this year. I'm a bit surprised at Onslow-Cole's lack of pace compared to Collard — he often seems to finish somewhere around Foster, and, even though Foster has shown himself to be a good racer, I would have expected more. I very much hope the team gets itself together, as I've always been a great enthusiast of WSR.

I would have thought that MotoGP took priority over what is just a national series for Toby.

Poor bit of commentary from Toby Moody when the lead changed in the Porsche race, getting the names of the drivers involved muddled up, and immediately saying that Daniel Lloyd would definitely get a penalty for cutting over the chicane, when it looked obvious that he did so as a result of being forced by Butcher. Great race though.

Motorcycle racing is always a lower priority than car racing. In my humble opinion ;)

The third race was good too, I thought. Shedden and Wrathall were both really impressive. Strange how certain other drivers behaved themselves really well in circumstances where contact would have had more serious consequences than, say, going into a low-speed chicane at Donington...

I think that eeeeeelongating syllables is his method of buying tiiiiiiiiiime when quickly trying to identiiiiiiiiify a driver or catch up on an incident. It's not pretty but it's effective.

Did anyone else hear this one whilst he was commentating on the first Porsche Carrera Cup race, "....and it's a win for Porsche!"
In a single make series I find it highly unlikely that another make would win it.......D'oh. Toby Moody has been to university and got a degree in "Stating the Obvious".

Got home about an hour ago from todays soaking at Thruxton and despite the weather and going on my own, I had a brilliant day and managed to get some pictures im pretty happy with!
I spent the day moving around the complex and from what I saw I thought the driving was superb in every race, even in the Clios which I thought might be carnage! Lets hope this can continue for the rest of the year. I saw Chris James and Gillham go off with a bang! Christ knows how they were able to drive away after hitting the wall at speed, though it was lcuky they didnt drop any fluids on the track!
Getting out of the muddy car park was fun, and if id watched someone try and get out like I did, I would probably have thought what a twat

x2 - driving the first truck on the grass and then trying to pull it out with a Range Rover on the grass as well.
Okay, the marshals and recovery crews do a necessary job (I assume the recovery crews are being paid) but they don't seem to have any idea of how to recover vehicles quickly and without unnecessary damage........

Today's racing has made me fall in love with Shedden's driving all over again. I feel about the same way about Flash as I did about Colin Turkington in 2009. There's just a sense of inevitability - the nice guy FINALLY gets a break and gets the championship win he so richly deserves. I just hope my wish comes true!

Recovery truck in the mud aside, it was refreshing to see cars allowed to race in the wet. Unlike F1.

And they did so extremely well, didn't they? Much the cleanest BTCC meeting I can recall for some time, yet far from dull — unless all you want to see is contact.

If only more footage like this was available. I know this is from one of the driving standards cameras, but the BTCC really is missing a trick by not allowing teams to run their own cameras for their own content. I followed the STCC last year and most of the teams have their own production up on Youtube by the Monday after the race with onboards and interviews. Tom Coronel does a good job with this sort of thing in the WTCC as well. With the way social media and video sharing websites are so big right now, I think it'd be a good idea.

If we're talking spectators then bikes win hands down. BSB easily trumps BTCC.

Er, MotoGP & WSB are world series, popular all over the world, especially Europe. The BTCC is a club/ National series, with limited interest overseas. A bit different however to the 80's/90's when it was particularly popular.
