This TV show is ruining me :(

For those not in the know, this is a morning TV show on the BBC. Dominic Littlewood takes members of the public in to shops and gets them to barter prices down. Fine so far - everybody loves a bargain!

Thing is, I now have complete muppets trying to make me frankly insulting offers on the things I sell and when I smile and politely say "Sorry can't manage that. How about ...." and give them a more realistic price, they walk off in a huff. It happened twice yesterday and I got quite sharp with one bloke as he'd offered to pay me £14 for goods priced at £22 then called me a rip-off merchant when I suggested £18.
This afternoon a woman rang about a pony I'm selling at £900 and her first question was "Will you take £700?" :rolleyes:

Folks, make a trader an offer by all means. Barter if you're man enough.

But do not, ever, insult somebody :(

After all, would you take a 25% pay cut?

Yeah, sure you are. It's obviously the pony being thrown in on the bargain just to devalue you that's putting them off :rolleyes:

He happened to have £12 in his back pocket and thought he'd have a go at buying an ex-British Telecom van with it. The auctioneer told him not to be stupid!

I recently sold my old Escort van that I used for discos. I put it up on Ebay and within hours had three people send me messages asking how much I wanted to end the auction early. I gave the same reply to all three, £800.

One bloke then said he wanted to come an see the van and arranged to see it on a Saturday morning. He came all the way from Ipswich, with a mate and took a while to have a look around the van. After kicking both front tyres he told me he'd take it away for £700. I told him that he'd had a wasted journey then because the price was £800, no offers.

After a brief conversation the full asking price was handed over and he departed with the van :D

Don't even get me started on the scumbags who keep ringing about buying the pony :( They all want to buy him then return him when the Easter holidays are over to save paying for keep until summer starts. If they did make it as far as being allowed to come and look at him, he'd boot them to Lincoln if they kicked his shins :p : He's a tough little nut, I taught him well :up:

Carl's story made me smile. Make an offer by all means, but insulting somebody is a sure way to end up paying full price or leaving empty handed.

I think the show is Great and Dom does a good job why shouldnt he teach people how to get a fair price on things! ;)

After all i think most things are over priced here in the uk anyway :(
