Earlier on Tradin' Paint on Speed Channel they made a big deal about Joe Nemecheck et al going home due to the top 35 being locked in based on last years owners points through today. Well, I went ahead and pulled up the qualifying times on Jayski and set the field based on the system used from 2000-2005, where the top 36 set on speed and 37-42 were provisonals and 43 past champion if needed. Guess what?
The same people would have gone home as did anyway. The only difference was in the drivers starting position from spots 35 on back....the field would have been:

35) 84 Allmendinger
36) 38 Gilliand
37) 17 Kenseth
38) 29 Harvick
39) 6 Ragan
40) 2 Busch
41) 42 Montoya
42) 41 Sorenson
43) 18 Yeley

1-34 would have been the same as today...

The same people would have DNQ'd under both systems.

Could the pre-race show be ANY LONGER!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 19:09
no thats why I'm watching the Discovery channel.

Its a hour of a waste of time, they need to just start the damn race

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 19:12
now you people know why I dislike Gordon, because last week he was "upset with the #42 for racing too hard at the end of the race"

than retire you wimp, you do it to everyone else all the time

Probably, but you omitted mentioning they had a second round of qualifing (on usually Sat). If you don't have the car, it doesn't matter, but if you just need a little time to sort out a good car, then drivers like Joe Nemecheck might still have qualified.

slorydn1

Yeah, this was an idea that I approved of. None of the cars actually looked "stock" anymore, so creating a template that was made to make the cars less aero dependent and race more like a classic stocker was probably a good move.

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 20:24
looks like the same old bristol to me

untill they are gonna screw up the track and repave it and are thinking about taking banking off the bottom lane

e2mtt
25th March 2007, 20:26
How is that a caution???!!! No spin or anything?

dont_be_jack
25th March 2007, 20:26
It's not repaving...it's relaying concrete. And they're not going to take the banking off the bottom lane. It's going to be the exact same, just new concrete. The concrete needs to be replaced - look at all the spots where it's been patched and damaged.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 20:29
now harvick says hes tight...and no brakes...29 is pitting this time also

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 20:30
there have been talks of it to try and make Bristol a two groove track, but that will just never work

and Montoya spunout

Actually, the solution to that would be leave the thread called 'Ford City 500 Race Thread' for the race convo and either start a thread for you and Harv or take it into an AIM conversation.

I've done this every weekend ive been off from work and so far the only one whining is you...usually there are more people here and i update their drivers too...but i guess eveyone is busy so theonly 2 of us that have been here for the whole race is me and harv...who's your driver? I'll but him up on my trackpass and follow him, too....

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 20:45
seems hes just relaxing now, hes up near the front, if he can pick them off, then great, but I'm thinking hes not gonna start racin again until about 200 to go

I think the avenger looks better in the front...but the street chargers are cool....my dept has 12 of them now...look real cool with blue lights on them

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 20:46
oh no Montoya and Robby are at the front of the field :s

Hoss Ghoul
25th March 2007, 20:47

I'm not worried about it just being Harvick being updated in here. Every time I've been following a race thread there's actually race discussion going on, not simple repostings of information that the vast majority of us who follow this thread can see by turning towards a television. I know that because there are less people it's more obvious, but it's possible that no one seemed to care before because there was actually substance to the thread, not just one-line posts.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 20:51
16 and 29 have cleared the 7.....looks like the 7 is gonna be the one everyone needs to lookout for this weekend (wreck wise).....commercial again

e2mtt
25th March 2007, 20:52
Aw come on... Robby is racing pretty clean right now.

You just hear that, DW says they are putting in progressive banking this summer here at Bristol.

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 20:52
Progressive banking at Bristol, way to ruin a track. damn isn't there a quote saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" They are gonna ruin Bristol now

again....the people who are usually here are not....so theres no reason fro me to do thsi for them....as for simply looking at the tv.....i have found if i don't have the track pass going then the only drivers i can find coverage of are the 24, 48, 8, 9 and 20....i'll get a 29 update maybe twice a race, and the crawl is always behind

sadler takes the lead on lap195

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 20:56
tv keeps talking about how tight everyone is....Harvick is still whining about being loose...the 20 retook the lead on lap 200

e2mtt
25th March 2007, 20:57
Looks like Robby must have broken something... he is running the slowest laps of the field, and is about to go 2 laps down, just about 10 laps after being the 1st 1 lap down.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 20:58
29 is back in 10th...the 31 has been the fastest car the last couple of laps

Looks like Robby must have broken something... he is running the slowest laps of the field, and is about to go 2 laps down, just about 10 laps after being the 1st 1 lap down.

not sure whats going in with him...he is 5 mph off the pace tho.....when Harv went around him he said it looked like the 7 was leaning like something was broke....

sure hope its not a track bar or something, or he'll be wrecking soon

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 21:00
may be not....it sure fixed homestead!

not Bristol, the track is too small, plus if this happens, the top line will run too fast and the the groove will be in the middle of the track.

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 21:01
Biffle has been charging all of a sudden, Bowyer seems to be climbing up too, Gordon is also in the top 20 but being close to being lapped.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:02
29 is still loose...kenseth just got around him for 10th....
race pace is now down to 110-112 mph

Hoss Ghoul
25th March 2007, 21:02
Kurt Busch had to pit, then he pulled the patented Jeff Gordon blunder--driving all the way around pit road under green when you're allowed to rejoin immediately.

He's many laps down now.

Erki
25th March 2007, 21:03
Robby got together with Stremme when 38 and 44 crashed. Might have something to do with that.

I like the 29 updates, keep'em coming. I can't get radios from TV.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:04
caution out...36 couln't get to the pits......harv says he's both tight in and loose off...they seem to have straddled the setup

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:06
good stop....picked up 2 spots on pit road... to the 24 for showing sportsmanship on pit road....

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 21:13
Sadler pitting, loose wheel  he was running 2nd, Biffle now Second

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:13
tough break for sadler....loose wheel

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:14
oh and by the way Harv...we are in 7th at the crossed flags

e2mtt
25th March 2007, 21:16
Watching the leaderboard... Junior has been sitting in 12th for a long time, but he is running some of the fastest laps right now.

Robby was actually running quite well, when he was first a lap down, then he fell off bigtime. I would guess a trackbar or something gave out.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:17
the 7 is now back even with the mid pack on speeds....must have been a tire or something....but rubby is 3 laps down in 32nd

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:19
i think JR may just be "riding"...looking at the map he seems to be in a clear hole.....sometimes guys will do that to avoid trouble in the middle of the race, find themselves a nice comfortable place to run

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:19
oh, and the 29 is 6th on lap 271

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 21:20

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 21:22
it it stays green, Johnson and Gordon are in trouble. Kahne falling back while Kyle is up to second.

Tony up by 4 seconds

just as we speak Kasey Spins

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:24
U called that!...caution out for the #9 spin.....

cool on all 3 RCR cars in top 10...

e2mtt

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:26
harv lost 2 spots on pit road...31 busted for too fast entering pit road

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:28
Boyer's splitter split Kahne's tire? Always fun to see unintended and unexpected consequences of new rules.
they may have to look at that...although it hasn't seemed to have been a problem in the truck series...maybe it sticks out more on a cup car?

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:29
20 is pitting again??????????

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 21:30

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 21:30

slorydn1

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 21:56

25th March 2007, 22:04
Sure seems as though the majority of cars on the lead lap have run a quiet race today. Bliss, Bowyer, Burton, Earnhardt, etc...just keeping their nose clean and making laps.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 22:05

25th March 2007, 22:25
This is some kind of a joke, surely??????? If I wanted a procession, I could watch F1! At least I actually get to watch that, boring though it might be :D

I cannot believe the amount of useless cautions, or how long it takes to sweep debris up. I could do it faster :D

e2mtt
25th March 2007, 22:25
More complaining from me... Fox just missed a restart, not doing commercial, but actually doing their long, graphic heavy, goofy intros.

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 22:26
i knew it needed to stay green...it seems the 29 has adjusted itself out of contention....

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 22:32
harv is 1 mph slower....damn it

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 22:33

slorydn1
25th March 2007, 22:34

exactly, I really hope Fox shuts up with themselves keep saying CoT.

its like the audience is 5 years old and they have to resay everything people already know.

GARYGAZZA
25th March 2007, 23:14
Hats off to Jeff Burton he could have easily taken Busch and himself out on that last lap.Could prove the move of his season so far if it goes down to the wire after 26 or 36 races.

harvick#1
25th March 2007, 23:38
so it looked like Ray, Joe, and Richard were the best teams with the car. those Hendrick cars really struggled with the except of Busch, only Gordon made head-way on the car.

I thought Casey Mears was gonna take that 25 way to the front every time.

Joe Gibbs was the class of the field, but engine trouble ruined that chance to win it

RCR looked to have the two best cars at the end with Burton and Harvick. Bowyer also had a great run to finish 8th.

For now the short tracks offer Michael Waltrip a chance to get out of 54th in points & the -27.
If he could just be 1 of the 7 fastest cars outside the top 35 & get into the field ..... :s
