By 'oddest' flag, I will assume that you mean an Odd number of sides.
Whereas most flags are rectangles, thus 'Even', I would suggest that the flag of Nepal, which has 5 sides, is thus 'Odd'.

Yes, "khao pad moo" is fried rice with pork

I think I'll allow google for the last two bits.

"khao pad poo" is straightforward, but it's not prawn as that's "gai". You'll have to be a little creative for "khao pad [high dung]" - try to get the "high" bit first

fried rice with chicken dung? :facelick: You're thinking along the right lines but "High" isn't "Gai" it's another word that sounds similar/rhymes, and
"Dung" is a bit of a cheat - the Thai word sounds vaguely similar (it begins with a "D...".

poo = beef
high dung = fish

:?: "poo" isn't beef, it's something else.
"high dung" isn't fish

Time to allow using Google is to finish this one off

So we are looking for looking for
"Khao pad [poo]" = fried rice and ?

"Khao pad [something that sounds like "high"] [something that vaguely sound like "dung"] = Fried rice and ? and ?

cowpat poo?

And, what do they mean?

What my ......(croatian town )is happening here? The poo thing reduced this thread to silence.

OK here's the answer:

The country is Thailand

cowpat is Khao pad, or khao phat depending on the transliteration, and means fried rice (Thai style)

so we get

cowpat poo = khao pad poo = fried rice with crab
cowpat moo = Khao pad moo = fried rice with pork (Yes, I'd expect 'moo' to be beef, but it's pork)
cowpat high dung = khao pad khai dao = fried rice with egg (khai) and with a fried egg on top (dao)

I apologise for the last one - I remembered it as wrongly as "khai dang"

Schmenke got Thailand and donKey jote got "moo" so I think either can post the next one.

The Niger River is the principal river of western Africa, extending about 4,180 km (2,600 mi). Its drainage basin is 2,117,700 km2 (817,600 sq mi) in area. Its source is in the ###### Highlands in southeastern ######. No you're down south of Gabon. I know this is a tough q and I will probably settle for the country, if no one gets it by the start of Sat morning test I will surrender the answer, unless there are objections. FYI; The more I look into this the more amazing it seems in a meteorological sense. The capital city is on the coast of the Atlantic, and the source appears to be very close to the coastline. This leads me to believe that there is a ridge very close to the shoreline making the eastern escarpment of the ridge the beginning of the source. That part is speculation because I haven't looked at a topo map.

Two part answer: I think (fingers crossed tightly) that it is in Turkey, but I am pretty sure that it is a geological feature that is an odd shape. The formation looks a bit boatish so has led some people to suggest that it is indeed Noah's Ark.

schmenke
15th May 2012, 19:03
Hey, Caoline, good to see you back

Yes, you’re spot on. The Durupinar feature is a geological anomaly located in eastern Turkey, about 30kms south of Mount Arafat. Viewed from the air it reassembles a large boat and, coupled with its location, has been often been thought to be the remnants of Noah’s ark.
Only with recent on-site examination has it been confirmed to be nothing more than a natural geological feature, not unlike others in the region.

Go one and give us a stumper now :)

Thank you :) As for a stumper......I'm not so sure.

Just been reading about a fascinating gas crater that has been burning constantly for nearly 40 years. It is known by some as 'The Gates of Hell'. It's thought that gas exploration by the Soviets in the 70s went horribly wrong and the gas in the crater would just burn out. The crater can be found north of the city of Ashgabat and has become something of a 'must see' for some more adventurous travellers.

So.... In which desert and country can this crater be found?

I haven't studied geography since I was in the 7th grade. One of my reminiscences of that times is the exotic names of the 2 deserts in former SU: Kizilkum and Karakum. Unfortunately I can't make a difference between them, I take them as a package.
Now one is in Uzbekistan and the other in Turkmenistan.

I don't know where the this living fire is but I must say that such phenomenon exists also in Romania:

Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan. Yellowstone, like Hawaii and Iceland is a geologic hotspot. There are a lot of them, but I didn't know many more off the top of my head.

Hello all - it's has been a while since I visited these parts. I forgot how much I love this thread :)

It's a bit of a dilemma as the correct country and desert have been mentioned but not definitively in the same post! Since reading about the Gates of Hell I have discovered that there are other interesting burning pits dotted around the place. Surely some inventive travel company could create a lucrative tour of these sites. I would go. It's always nice to head somewhere warm after all.

It is not Boston. This is not a complicated question. The US as all of us know was explored by several European countries, Spain, England, Portugal, France, and I'm probably leaving someone out.
These countries had settlements. I'm looking for the one that is the oldest and continually occupied into the present. Does that clear things up?
The reason I say European-established is because
Acoma Pueblo or "Sky City" in New Mexico has been continually occupied since roughly 1,000 CE

I only consider 2 motorsports "sports" and in rally mainly gravel or snow only.

Actually Motor Division ----which was bikes and chainsaws and lawnmowers in 1976 was 3% of company sales.
they made about 6500 bikes in '76
And "Vappe" ("vapenfabrik" ) was around 49 largest Swedish Company in terms of turnover,

So motorsports was part of a household products company (sewing machines, stoves, waffel irons, etc) that also made bikes.

They are 2 diametrically opposite points on earth...if you drilled all the way through via the centre, then you'd emerge at your location's antipode.Ed, here was my rationale, and it is probably flawed, but I happen to know that the two capitols I chose are just slightly north of the equator, and as far as I could tell relatively antipodal. I specifically stated that the shortest distance should be over the pole since the earth is widest at the equator. Now I'm wondering does the elliptical nature of the poles counter-balance the wider equator when calculating distance? (I'm digging for a clue here ;) ) Then any truly antipodal points will have to be either on the equator or cross the equator. So I postulated if they were both on the same side of the equator and traveling in this case to the north, that it could be possible to be a shorter distance than a straight line following very close to the equator.
How horribly wrong is my line of reasoning? :p :

gadjo_dilo

If your news is referring to Romania being antipodal to New Zealand than it may very well be that the capitol of New Zealand is relatively antipodal to Bucharest (unless a neighboring country's capitol is closer to being antipodal than your own, or a country's capitol near New Zealand align better with your capitol) So I will enter an answer on your behalf.

Here's a pictorial representation: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/64/Antipodes_LAEA.png

Description of Longest-haul flights:

The longest routes possible are between antipodes, or points on the Earth's surface opposite each other with the Earth's center directly between, a distance of 20,038 km at the equator. Flights between Buenos Aires and Shanghai, Quito and Kuala Lumpur, Wellington and Madrid or Perth and Bermuda, have a distance of flight at 19,602 km, 19,715 km, 19,851 km and 19,918 km, respectively. A theoretical non-stop flight between Málaga and Auckland, which are nearly antipodal, would cover a great circle distance of flight at 19,943 km.

just how old are you? :andrea: ;)

The question was:

how long would it take him to visit each island there if he visited a different island every day?

As for my age all you have to do is click on my screen name to find out :dork:
Now the answer: 8 years and 271 days (not counting leap-year ;) )

donKey jote

I know roughly how old you are, rounding down to the nearest decade. That's not why I was asking. ;)
Now the answer: how old are you? :dork: :p

err no... 8-9 years is too little and 275 Million is quite over the top. :p

Reformulated DonkeyQ (sheesh I thought it would be a quickie  ):
Roughly how many years would it take you to visit all the islands of Indonesia at the rate of 1 per day?

Or if you don't know roughly how many days there are in a (terrestrial) year:
Roughly how many thousand islands form Indonesia?

Hint: Doc is roughly 50 (rounded down), and 50x365 is roughly 18000.

Name the place where alternative reality would exists. Here is a hint; the term for this place is synonomous with A.R. :vader:

With the answer I'm looking for I could well be in two places at once. Have you checked up on your "old lady" today? :p :

I don't blame her, the way you shamelessly carrying on with Billy-bob's missus :s pinhead:
Well that's what she told me :uhoh:
