Time to open this thead with only a few weeks to go until the event.

Who can we expect to be there?

Mikkelsen definitely, I guess Skoda are sending Kopecky there instead of Juho?

Others confirmed:

Gassner (Fabia)
Tamrazov (Fiesta)
Saliuk (Fiesta)

I presume Al-Ketbi and Wiegand will also take the boat from Azores to Canarias?

Any chance of Magalhaes and Bouffier?

What about locals, Pons, Hevia?

Luis Monzon has confirmed through his facebook that he is going to participate in Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Ingles with a Delta Rally's 207 S2000 new specification 2012. Good news for Gran Canaria supporters ...

"Queridos aficionados/as,

He is 46 years old, however the foreign drivers must be carefull with Luis in his Island...

Of course depend on the speed of 207 S2000

When the entry list will be released then I could bet the Luis Monzon's final position in the rally.

Consani is searching a codriver that speak inglish or french.

He write this in his Facebook page:

Bonjour à tous,

Robert Consani recherche un copilote disponible dès le 11 mars pour le Islas Canarias Rally de l'IRC et pour tout le reste du Championnat IRC (sous réserve de bouclage de budget).
Il est demandé de parler anglais et de s'occuper de la coordination de chaque course avec le team.

Hi mousti and Hartusvuori!

As far as I know Puskadi will do Tour de Corse, Mecsek Rallye, Yalta Rally and Cyprus Rally. Few weeks ago when I talked to him this was the plan. His Eurosol Racing Team will be present on more IRC events since Krozser's Civic R3 is also from Eurosol and he is plannig seven more IRC rounds. They also have a Fabia R2 (Vizin used it on the Azores) with a full program for the Hungarian Championship but still available for IRC events.

The event was also part of Czech championship. Jan has his goal in Czech championship and Juho will do ERC so that's why both were there. In IRC they clearly want Mikkelsen to win and the other two will only accompany him but usually only one each time. In Ireland I think we will see Juho again.

I would have thought bumpy Irish asphalt would have been a more Kopecky-style event?

The event was also part of Czech championship. Jan has his goal in Czech championship and Juho will do ERC so that's why both were there. In IRC they clearly want Mikkelsen to win and the other two will only accompany him but usually only one each time. In Ireland I think we will see Juho again.

That's interesting. I can see why Skoda have chosen the Czech Championship for Jan. But what in this plan leads to a positive outcome for Juho? I am beginning to think that Skoda is wasting his time.

With Peugeot retired there is no need for ultra overkill sending three full works crews to every event to ridicule the opposition. From marketing point of view it is better to have the importer team winning I think.

Juho is doing ERC because there is a possibility ERC will be joined with IRC and those events will become IRC battlefield next year when Peugeot is back in full strength with a new car.

In my understanding there is some kind of agreement that Škoda works crews won't start in WRC events against VW team.

I guess Juho will start with VW Fabia on Finland then?

Regarding team orders on this rally, I guess Skoda will let the crews fight until at least mid-point Saturday unless one of them makes a mistake before. I don't have a problem with this style of team order. It is for sure better than telling a certain driver he must finish behind the other one before the championship has even started.

In one way it would look really stupid if one of them crashed while they are way ahead of the others. On the other hand in current IRC shape they can afford that. But in my opinion Hrabánek is pragmatic enough to handle the situation and the fact he has there Jan helps him because Jan is no hot head.

... but of course I would like to see my friend Pavel on the top spot :)

IRC are pretty fast at getting videos up on their website these days, SS3 with Mikkelsen is pretty good!: Event Videos' Gallery - IRC Intercontinental Rally Challenge - Eurosport (http://www.ircseries.com/videogallery/list/id/36)

Really nice driving roads on Gran Canaria, and I'm amazed how green the island is having been to Tenerife and Fuerteventura where I don't think I saw a single natural blade of grass!

Despite the poor entry lists this year, I hope both Azores and Canarias stay on the IRC calendar because they are great events in beautiful places.

I understand now. Thanks for that information. Is the real benefit in having Skoda UK win things instead of the official Skoda team? I think it will be useful in the UK but unsure if it would be anywhere else? I would be a bad look if we had Skoda 1-2-3 in all events.

That is indeed sensible for Juho to do that. Will the combine IRC-ERC series then be still called IRC??? I guess if he is that well experienced Andreas will be elsewhere?

Interesting about that agreement. Will that count in Finland if Juho goes? It would be very interesting to see Seb O and Juho go head to head in Finland indeed.

Good programme on Eurosport last night. I don't know how it is in different countries but the commentary is so much better in the UK when Andrew Coley does it. Neil Cole is also now involved in the production and interviewing, seems like IRC are stepping up their game in this respect. Problems with the latest engine spec on the Fabia though? Misfires for both Mikkelsen and Wiegand during the rally.

"Narrows" in Czech is very simple - "zúží" or someone uses "do úzka".

"Šel přes střechu" is exactly translated "went over the roof". There is a way to say it shorter but it is not nice and it's less used - "převrátil se" = "overturned".

But sometimes they use foreign words. Like Valoušek in his very complex pacenotes. He uses Czech words levá/pravá (means left/right) for turns and English words "left/right" for side of the road where to keep himself. It is good because You can't mix it when each is called in different language. Than he also uses tornante and tornantino for different hairpins. These are Italian words which he learned from his former co-driver Pier Scalvini.

But it's off topic :)
