OFFICIAL: Nissan To Join V8 Supercars Championship (http://www.v8supercars.com.au/championship/newsarticle/official-nissan-to-join-v8-supercars-championship/tabid/70/newsid/12124/default.aspx)
NISSAN will join the V8 Supercars Championship in 2013 and become the first new manufacturer to enter the sport under its new ‘Car of the Future’ rulebook. The news was announced today at a press conference in the River Room at Crown Casino in Melbourne.
The Japanese car giant will take on Holden and Ford in next year’s championship – the first run under new ‘Car of the Future’ rules. Kelly Racing has signed with Nissan to become the company’s factory team and will run four cars next year from their Melbourne workshop.
The team will have the full support of the giant NISMO Nissan Motorsport organisation.

Excellent news...but Kelly Bros? Of all the potential teams I didn't think it would be such Holden stalwarts. But regardless, NISMO backing, hugely professional team and 4 cars including one for Murph.
Great news all round

That's great news for the championship.
Slightly off topic. I must admit I saw a picture of one of the new NASCAR Fords the other week. It looked very similar to a V8Supercar.
Now that would be worth seeing.

Being a huge Oz V8s fan this is brilliant news! I wonder what the locals think of it after Nissan's last entry ;)

It seems some of the locals are not happy, judging from some of the messages that they have apparently recieved. It seems that the bogans have got a long memory and dont like being called a "pack of a*seho*es". :D
Richly deserved, however.

Quite right! Any true motorsport enthusiast should welcome such an entry.

Indeed brilliant news. The question now is the car they will use. I suspect, as suggested by SMH, that the Ultima will be used. Entering a GTR (even though it is just a silhouette) against a Commodore and Falcon doesn't seem to make sense.
Also, reading the comments to some of those articles is just embarrassing. Brings out the same people who supported ending Group A in this country.

And illegal. The rules stipulate that the base car must be a four-door sedan.
Personally I think that it will be the Maxima replacement which should be ready for debut at the Sydney Motor Show in September 2012.

It's a shame. Was there a response from Toyota? Lexus ISF was my first choice.

Nope. I don't think theres been any responses besides from Nissan, although Chrysler are rumoured to enter with the 300C.

It would be brave for Nissan to use the Infiniti brand considering that they don't sell cars under that banner in Australia. I suppose that they might use the sport as a global advert, but I didn't think it would reach that far.

Hyundai produce the Tau engine which is a 5L V8. How cool would it be to have a Kia K9 or Hyundai Genesis running in the series? Actually, now that I think about it, Korea could in theory hold it's own V8 Supercars championship with entirely native cars.

Nissan hasn’t disclosed what body the Nissan race car will get. Nissan Australia spokesman Jeffrey Fisher will only say it will be a four-door sedan that will feature in Nissan’s local lineup within the next two years.

AA: During the discussions and planning that led to this decision, was it ever considered that V8 Supercars was the place to promote the Infiniti brand, which is pursuing a "sporty" image?
No, because of Infiniti's alignment with Red Bull Racing in F1, so clearly they wanted to protect their space there. And, on the flipside, wanting to have Nissan own the most popular and important series here in Australia. Obviously V8 Supercars is very Australian and Nissan is very Australian, whereas Infiniti - from a brand perspective - aligns much better with F1.

Auto Action have a rather tasty picture of what could be the 2013 Nissan Altima in race form. I'm definitely all for it and more too. Don't give a f#$% for the blind morons that think Holden and Ford are the only ones who are allowed to race.

The Canberra Times broke ranks with this.
Nissan V8 Supercar team | Nissan Altima (http://canberratimes.drive.com.au/motor-news/nissans-v8-supercar-20120404-1wbkg.html)
http://images.canberratimes.com.au/2012/04/05/3191262/nissan_alitma_729-420x0.jpg
"Part Patrol, part Altima, the newest Australian racing car is taking shape. Nissan has confirmed its new V8 Supercar will use the 5.6-litre V8 engine from the upcoming new Patrol four-wheel-drive.
However the engine will be reduced in capacity to 5.0 litres - matching that of the Fords and Holdens it will line up alongside on the grid - and be heavily modified for race use.
The car will also use some panels from the mid-sized Altima to be unveiled this week at the 2012 New York motor show, a car that will go on sale here later in 2013."
I can tell you that the Altima which will sit on the existing Nissan D platform as does the current Altima is both too narrow and too short to comply with the regs. CoTF uses a standard undertray and drivetrain so no probs there. That means that like the existing Commodore it's going to be a cut and reprofile jobby.
I thought that the engine would be an expanded VH45DE from the GTR-GT500 racing in the JGTC, but it's going to be a recored VK56DE from the Patrol and GTR-GT/GT1 as used in the FIA GT1 World Championship with lead weight fitted because the alloy block is too light.

That looks more like something out of NASCAR in that mock up! I shall reserve further judgement till when we actually see one for real!
